With the other thread nearing the 100 page limit, I figured this would be a good time to start fading that one out and phasing this one in. Feel free to post NEW topics here while discussing/replying to old topics on the other post.

More on the recent Forbes cover story on Toby Keith:
There are many reasons Toby Keith resisted the photo shoot and interview for Forbes Magazine’s Celebrity 100 issue, but mostly the singer just didn’t want to do it. The ‘Drinks After Work’ singer says his publicist made him.
The project required allowing a Forbes journalist to follow Keith around for a few days. “First of all, it’s like pulling teeth to get me to do photo shoots,” the star tells the Oklahoman. ”And I don’t mind doing interviews if they’re by phone, but I hate to go sit down and have to meet somebody somewhere, you know what I mean.”
The nature of this particular interview further rankled Keith. He doesn’t like talking about his money and success, which includes a line of mezcal, a restaurant chain, partial ownership of Big Machine Records and heading Show Dog-Universal, in addition to his songwriting and performance earnings. The cover of the Forbes issue referred to him as “country music’s $500 million man.”
“I play golf with my shirttail out,” Keith says. “I own a golf course because it’s very, very close to my house, and I don’t want to drive 45 minutes to the north side of Oklahoma City to play golf every day.”
Other investments (like his race horses) serve the singer’s interests and hobbies. He says he’s not comfortable with people asking him about his finances, but his publicist said it was a huge honor.
Score one win for Keith on the cover photo, however. Sure, he’s wearing a clean, crisp black jacket and grinning like tooth-whitener model, but “I still had jeans on,” he says.

I found the article to be fascinating (which was already discussed here a few weeks ago) and I also find it comical that he resisted being a part of the whole interview but his publicist insisted. I bet that's the only person (other than his wife, maybe) he listens to these days, lol.

Where are the country artists that used to be popular like Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Lee Ann Womack, etc.. They are all so great, but I haven't loved anything Faith has done since the Fireflies era.

Very good read, very good song, very good voice and very good looks: 615 Spotlight: Brynn Marie Digs Deep in New 'I'm Sorry' Video Billboard recently published its "DIY" issue. Newcomer Brynn Marie is one who could have very well been profiled in that section. The stunning songstress has learned the music business on the fly – doing her own booking, publicity, promotion, and even has run her own PA before. Nowadays, opening for rock legends Pat Benatar and Cheap Trick, she leaves that work to others, but she has a very industrious mind. When it came time to make her latest video, "I'm Sorry," she once again took matters into her own hands. She found the props from dumpsters, repainting everything, and even shot the video in her own backyard. The song is one of the most emotionally powerful to come out of Music City this year. "That song gets me every time," she tells Billboard. "I think everyone can relate to it because there's always an instance where sorry just isn't enough anymore. It's a highlight to sing it every night. I get to sing my heart out on it and let my emotions flow. There's nights I might cry during it. The stories that people have are just amazing." Brynn's story is quite amazing, as well. She grew up a cheerleader for the Mighty Mikes in Carmichaels, PA -- where high school football on Friday nights was (and still is) the hottest ticket in town. She became enamored with music at an early age, being influenced by country, pop, classical, and gospel. She played in a worship and praise band with her family through college, and then formed a country band. Word of mouth spread about her talent, and opportunity came knocking at the door. "I got an opportunity to go overseas and play for our military on an AFE tour for three weeks in the Middle East," she said. From that point on, she knew that music was not just something she loved, but also her true calling. "That changed my life. When I got to see how music can make someone feel loved, and make you forget where you're at, and the problems of what you're facing everyday, that made me realize I wanted to do that forever. After that trip, I went back to Pittsburgh to my hometown, packed my bags, and moved to Nashville." Though the talent pool in Music City was very deep and wide, she was not as much intimidated by that fact as much as she was inspired to give it her all. "I looked at as a case ‘If you want to go fishing, or if you want to catch a shark, I'm not going to the creek.' I looked at Nashville as a place that would be tough and challenging, with a lot of talent, but I knew who I was as an artist. I wanted to stay true to who I am. That's what I did. I didn't really know anybody, just went around town making friends. For the longest time, I never told anyone I was a singer. I just made friends with people, because I found I got more out of by soaking things up like a sponge. I felt listening to other people's stories was a way I could learn quicker." Her talent and prowess as a performer and songwriter earned her quite a bit of attention around Nashville – and beyond. Getting the gig with Benatar and Cheap Trick has been an education that money couldn't buy. "Watching them has taught me so much," she says. "They did things the old school way, pounding the pavement, and making fans. I found it to be so interesting because their fans are so loyal. They've been doing this for so long, and the seats are filled and people are singing their songs. They did it right, and those fans are bringing their kids. Their music will live on forever, and they are the best mentors you could ask for." So where does she fit musically? She says she doesn't try to put her music in a box. "I appreciate everything from classical to Broadway to Disney songs to the Foo Fighters," she admits. "I listen to everything – as long as there's an emotion and I can relate to it. I'm true to my sound, and it's interesting to see where people place me. Everyone has a different ear. I just went to the studio and wanted to be Brynn." Well I figured this would happen but Billboard is doing an Artist Development Case Study on Florida Georgia Line. The panel will include FGL's Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, along with Big Loud Shirt GM Seth England, AEG Live Senior VP Debra Rathwell, Buddy Lee Attractions President Kevin Neal, and Republic Nashville President Jimmy Harnen.
A case study will no doubt address FGL's skyrocketing rise to fame. It's only been about a year since "Cruise" hit the mainstream and FGL will already be headlining a pretty big tour this fall. Their album is on the fast track to Platinum status, still selling about 30k a week at the top of Billboard Country Albums. It sounds like this panel will analyze just how their career developed and then exploded. I don't see these case studies a lot but I've seen a few, and sometimes they do case studies on songs to try to figure out how they became such big hits. I know they did one for "Red Solo Cup".
This is what the BCU today had to say:
"To share the secrets of their success, FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley will host an artist development session at the Billboard Touring Conference & Awards on Nov. 14 in New York."
They probably won't answer by saying "well we pretty much make a bunch of loud party music and call it country, and we try to have that Nickelback flavor and sometimes we sing with Nelly too" but if I could crash that panel session, that's what I'd say! ;)

Random Video Of The Day!
Arists: Lace Title: "I Want A Man" Album: "Lace" Peak: #65 Release Date: August 28, 1999 Writers: Rick Giles, Gilles Godard, & Tim Nichols Label: 143/Warner Bros. Nashville Director: Roger Pistole
About The Artist: David Foster's plan to put together an all-female country trio began to take shape after seeing a music video of Beverley Mahood on CMT Canada while he was visiting his mother in Victoria, British Columbia; he requested to meet with Mahood, and soon after signed her to a recording contract on his label, 143 Records. Mahood later suggested her friend Giselle, a fellow singer-songwriter in Ontario, prior to David Foster introducing them to the group's third member, Austin, Texas native Corbi Dyann. The trio received a Juno Award nomination in 2000 for Best Country Group or Duo. They also received nominations for Group of the Year and Video of the Year ("I Want a Man") at the 2000 Canadian Country Music Awards. Their 1999 self-titled album includes record producing credits of Foster, Chris Farren, Humberto Gatica, and J. Richard Hutt. Songwriting credits on the album include Linda Thompson, Deana Carter, Sarah McLachlan and John Scott Sherrill. The group's best-known song was "I Want a Man". In 2000, Corbi Dyann left the group and Canadian Stacey Lee replaced her. The trio often was seen as attempting to capitalize on the success of the Dixie Chicks, even though the latter's success occurred after Lace was formed.

Congratulations are in order for Garth Brooks and his family. The country music superstar became a first-time grandfather earlier this week, when his middle daughter, August Anna Brooks, gave birth to a baby girl.
According to Taste of Country, Facebook photos show that the 19-year-old had her daughter, Karalynn, on Tuesday (July 23). Her Facebook profile says she has been with the child’s father, Chance Michael Russell, since October of 2011. Russell is also a resident of Owasso, Okla., where the two attended high school together.
August graduated in 2012, after which she worked at a law firm and started classes at the University of Oklahoma.
Garth Brooks retired from active touring and recording at the height of his career in 2000, citing conflicts between his career and the need to spend more time with his daughters. Despite a few sporadic appearances and single releases since, he has firmly maintained that he will not return to a full-time music career until his youngest daughter, Allie, graduates from high school in 2014. The entertainer has hinted at the possibility of a full-blown tour after that.
“Our family would first like to thank everyone for their warm wishes and sweet celebration of Baby K’s arrival,” Brooks says in a statement to Tulsa World Friday (July 26). “Our children’s lives have always been extremely private and they have been endlessly encouraged to be their own people.”
He adds, “We have always wanted them to be individuals and NOT be known as ‘someone’s daughters.’ I have been amazed and grateful how the press has always respected this. I now ask that respect to please continue as this young family begins the greatest days of their lives.”

Take a look at the last paragraph:
Fans wondering, “When are the 2013 CMA Awards?” needn’t wonder anymore.
The 47th annual ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 8PM ET and be broadcast live on ABC from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Last year’s CMA Awards took place five days earlier, with Blake Shelton being named Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the year and Miranda Lambert winning Female Vocalist of the Year honors. There hasn’t been a repeat Entertainer of the Year winner since 2008, when Kenny Chesney won his fourth straight.
The CMAs have taken place at Nashville’s downtown arena since 2006.
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are expected to host once again. It would make their sixth straight year as co-hosts, the second longest tenure ever behind Vince Gill, who hosted or co-hosted from 1992-2003. The CMA Awards have been broadcast on ABC since 2006. Nominees and winners are decided by over 7,000 industry professionals who make up the CMA membership.

Carrie's busy with "The Sound of Music", and KP is probably the closest match to a Carrie in the country scene right now. If anybody is replacing Carrie, it better be Kellie Pickler. But since all the award shows are just going for the biggest stars lately, I'd say Kimberly would be a likely candidate if Carrie cannot host due to her TSOM duties. Although, I don't understand why she could just take an extra 2 days off to prepare for the awards. She will be at the awards anyway, so an extra couple days shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure if it was, they could have just started training a couple days earlier in August so that Carrie could miss those couple of days. I'm still hoping Carrie and Brad will continue to host this year because they really do have the best hosting chemistry I've ever seen.

With this talk of the CMA Awards is it to early to speculate the potential nominees? I'll give it a go on just the EOTY, MVOTY and FVOTY, but will understand if it's just too early. The eligibility period is over right?
EOTY Blake Shelton Jason Aldean Luke Bryan Taylor Swift (Though she as strayed too far from country as of late) Carrie Underwood (Optimistic, but maybe they'll finally nominate her)
MVOTY Jason Aldean Blake Shelton Luke Bryan Eric Church Tim McGraw
FVOTY Carrie Underwood Miranda Lambert Taylor Swift Kacey Musgraves Kelly Clarkson

Speaking of Tanya, I wonder what is up with her music career? I know she started her own label and released that covers album in 09, but since then, nothing. I believe back then she said she was writing for a new album too that was supposed to be out the next year. Obviously that never happened. After hearing Pam and Lorrie's album, I'm really wanting some new Tanya music. I miss the ladies of the 80s and 90s!

My initial thought was that Jake Owen would get that last male spot over Tim McGraw. McGraw's career may rejuvenated, but I just feel like it is so far past his peak. Obviously Paisley and Chesney had down years, but I feel like they may even be in front of him. In addition, you got Hunter and Dierks for new blood in that category. Darius probably didn't do quite enough, and Lee Brice/Kip Moore are not gigantic sales stars quite yet despite their huge radio eras for their respective albums.
Vocal Group should still be the main 5. JAB/RRB still have yet to turn to the mainstream. Rascal Flatts' superstardom is falling apart. Gloriana failed to achieve a real big follow up hit to KYGN. Vocal Duo will probably be the 4 active ones and perhaps Sugarland.
And then, I'll add my predictions for song and single. Just my 2 cents: Single: "Cruise", "Boys 'Round Here", "Wagon Wheel", "Crash My Party", "Wanted" (I don't think "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" made a big enough impact before the eligibility period ended though could be wrong about that.) Song: "Wagon Wheel", "I Drive Your Truck", "Blown Away", "Highway Don't Care", "Wanted" (There are about 10 mainstream songs I'd rather see as the 5th song on this list.)
Vocal Event: "Highway Don't Care", "Boys 'Round Here", "The Only Way I Know", "Summer Jam", "Drivin' Around Song" Music Video (I don't normally pay much attention to this so I may be far off): "Two Black Cadillacs", "Pontoon", "Mama's Broken Heart", "Creepin'", "Wanted"
New Artist: Florida-Georgia Line, Lee Brice, Kip Moore, Thompson Square, Kacey Musgraves

Ew, if they're going to try and pair anyone else up with Brad then they should just let him go solo. They won't find anyone else with the chemistry that Carrie & Brad have, whether it be pairing Brad with someone else or pairing any other two together. Until we hear otherwise, though, I'll stay with the thought that they're continuing their cohosting duties, even though my optimism has diminished.

I'd rather it continue to be Brad and Carrie hosting the show, but Kimberly Perry would be a good replacement if Carrie turns out to not be co-hosting this year.

Lady A announcing TODAY fall tour dates with Kacey Musgraves and Kip Moore! EDIT: Lady A Announces First Leg Of The Take Me Downtown Tour! Lady Antebellum has announced the first leg of their headlining TAKE ME DOWNTOWN TOUR. The group has invited Kip Moore and Kacey Musgraves to join the arena tour kicking off Nov. 8 in Southaven, MS and running through December. Fans can purchase tickets and special VIP experiences beginning Sept. 13. “We spent almost every day last year backstage writing for our album GOLDEN, so we were really focused on writing songs that would connect with the fans in these arenas. We definitely learned a lot about ourselves as live performers and the type of catalog we wanted to have so that we could go out and try to give the fans the best show they've ever experienced," explains Lady A's Charles Kelley. "All of that was the jumping off point for this tour, and now it's time to take it to the next level." Last year, Lady A hosted over one million fans across the globe in 11 countries on their first headlining world tour, which earned them Billboard Touring’s “Breakthrough Award,” CMA’s “International Artists Achievement Award” and will accept the “Jim Reeves International Award” at this fall’s ACM Honors. The shows were inspirational and critics praised the band’s “youthful exuberance and unending energy.” TAKE ME DOWNTOWN TOUR Dates: 11/8 Southaven, MS Landers Center 11/9 St. Louis, MO Chaifetz Arena 11/10 Evansville, IN Ford Center 11/12 Grand Rapids, MI Van Andel Arena 11/15 Chicago, IL Allstate Arena 11/16 Toledo, OH Huntington Center 11/17 Cleveland, OH Quicken Loans Arena 11/19 Fargo, ND Fargodome 11/21 Rapid City, SD Rushmore Plaza Civic Center 11/22 Denver, CO Pepsi Center 11/23 Salt Lake City, UT EnergySolutions Arena 12/3 Springfield, MO JQH Arena 12/5 Minneapolis, MN Target Center 12/6 Kansas City, MO Sprint Center 12/7 Omaha, NE CenturyLink Center 12/12 Cincinnati, OH U.S. Bank Arena 12/14 Peoria, IL Peoria Civic Center ladyantebellum.com/news/lady-a-announces-first-leg-of-the-take-me-downtown-tourtour.ladyantebellum.com

Yeah I'm thinking they just gave us the 2013 dates so far @zaclord. I'm not in a position to travel really so that's what I'm hoping for.
(I was hoping Kip or Kacey would be going out with Dierks this fall but I guess not. Oh well.)

I hope so, since they're the bulk of the reason I want to see the show. But you're right, it's certainly possible they won't.
