So much better than last year!
I enjoyed Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga & R Kelly, Ariana Grande, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera, and Rihanna. I was underwhelmed by TLC and didn't care for the rest.
Congratulations to all of those who won, especially Rihanna for the Icon Award.

Rihanna did not deserve an ICON award....just my opinion...Justin Timberlake was the best and Deserved to WIN all he did and in my opinion WAS the Artist of the year (not Taylor)

Ariana Grande had the best performance of the night.
Very predictable winners always with this award show cause it is fan voted.Happy for Taylor's wins althrough and she looked great at the show.

J.Lo was still my favorite. The dancing yes, the singing NO! She took the life out of Celia's songs :( This is how the song should sound: Live:

I usually skip the AMA's because whoever has the biggest tween base usually wins, but tonight's show was entertaining.
I enjoyed Ariana, Lady Gaga & R Kelly, J Lo, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore, A Great Big World and Christina, Justin Timberlake but there wasn't anything I really hated. I was happy that most attempted to sing live. I didn't notice anything too off with Katy's performance that other people have mentioned. She seemed fine to me. I just found the entire Asian princess theme very random having nothing to do with the song.
It was nice to see no one dominated and several people get awards but some of the categories were weird starting with the icon award. I also don't understand JT being in the pop rock category. One Direction winning best new artist was the most jarring as either Macklemore or Imagine Dragons should have gotten that--but there's aways the Grammys.

Do we have a list of where the songs were before the AMAs started? It'd be interesting to compare. Can get an idea using kworb's site: "Unconditionally" #17 "Story of My Life" #6 "Tattooed Heart" below 100 "Demons" #7 "Radioactive" #33 "Timber" #5 "Drink You Away" below 100 "Cruise" below 100 "Ride wit Me" below 100 "Diamonds" below 100 "Can't Hold Us" #92 "Say Something" #14 (version w/o Christina Aguilera below 100) "Swimming Pools (Drank)" below 100 "Poetic Justice" below 100 "Do What U Want" #22 "That's My Kind of Night" #32 "Waterfalls" below 100 "Wrecking Ball" #12 Lol, right now Wrecking Ball is #14, DWUW is #22 and Unconditionally is #18.

But One Direction didn't win Best New Artist. They weren't even nominated for that. Ariana Grande won. One Direction were nominated and won Best Pop/Rock Duo/Group and Best Pop/Rock Album for "Take Me Home".

^ You're right. I got them mixed up as One Direction kept winning. They shouldn't have won for best duo/group. Ariana is also less well known than her other nominees and her songs weren't played everywhere like theirs were. I wonder if she'll even get nominated for a Grammy in that category

Sunday 11/24/13 Metered Markets Stellar Results for Football on NBC; “American Music Awards” on ABC Up 24 Percent Year-to-YearHousehold Rating/ShareNBC 12.4/19 Fox 7.4/11 ABC 7.1/11CBS 6.9/11 Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 11/25/12:ABC: +65, NBC: +18, ABC: + 6, CBS: – 4 —– Winners:“The OT” (Fox), “Sunday Night Football” (NBC), “The American Music Awards’ (ABC)Losers:“Bob’s Burgers” (Fox), “American Dad” (Fox) —– Ratings Breakdown:The Denver Broncos at the New England Patriots on “Sunday Night Football” led NBC to another easy overnight victory, with an estimated 17.0 rating/28 share from 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. But ABC was no slouch care of “The 2013 American Music Awards” at an 8.2/12 in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, that outdelived the year-ago telecast (6.6/10 on 11/18/12) by 24 percent. And last year’s telecast translated into 9.52 million viewers and a 3.4 rating/8 share among adults 18-49, according to the live plus same day data. Expect a demo rating in the low-4 range. At 7 p.m. on ABC was veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a distant third-place 3.5/ 6 at 7 p.m., which was down by eight percent from the year-ago evening. And pre-game “Football Night in America” scored a 1.9/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 3.7/ 6 at 7:30 p.m. (#4) and a first-place 10.3/16 at 8 p.m. Elsewhere, Fox got a considerable boost care of the NFL primetime overrun at a 17.3/28 (#1) in the 7 p.m. half-hour. That led into a dominant 14.4/23 for “The OT” at 7:30 p.m., followed by the animated rotation of “The Simpsons” (#4: 4.7/ 7), “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 2.9/ 4), “Family Guy” (#4: 3.2/ 5) and “American Dad” (#4: 2.5/ 4). As a reminder, “American Dad” moves to TBS in originals next season. CBS, meanwhile, was on par with recent levels (despite the increased competition) with its rotation of granddaddy “60 Minutes” (#2: 8.0/13), “The Amazing Race” (#3: 5.5/ 8), “The Good Wife” (#3: 6.8/10) and “The Mentalist” (#3: 7.2/12). Timberlake's performance may have been my favorite. Also liked "Wrecking Ball", and Ariana Grande's "Tatooed Heart."

What were the tv ratings for this show last year? It's probably going to end up being dismal this year. With the reigning pop-diva trio of Miley, Katy and Gaga all performing, the American Music Awards soared to its best ratings in four years among total viewers and the adult demo. The AMAs had 12.9 million viewers and a 4.5 rating among adults 18-49 Sunday night, up a strong 32 percent from last year. The numbers represent the show’s second-biggest audience in 11 years, plus was up 86 percent from 2012 among teen viewers. The AMAs easily dominated every other entertainment show on broadcast. NBC’s Sunday Night Football‘s Denver vs. New England game led the night.

And last year's AMA ratings were near record lows which made any improvement from this year's show seem like a huge gain.

Nice to see the ratings increased from 2012's borefest. :)
