Follow-up to the top 10 hit, "The Sound". The third rock single from "Hello Hurricane".

A little unexpected. I don't know what song I expected otherwise though.

A little unexpected. I don't know what song I expected otherwise though. I expected a new album. Not one of my favorites, but I don't think anything else would do well on this format (except MAYBE the title track). I can't complain, each of the other four singles have been among my top five on the album.

He's either talking about "Your Love Is a Song", which was sent to Pop or "Always", which was sent to Christian. This song sounds very similiar to "The Sound" to me. I expect it to do respectively.

Top 20, I reckon. Nice to see them get 3 charting singles from an album again, anyway :)

Switchfoot have really revitalized their career with this album, with 3 rock singles (with 2 Top-10's so far) and a minor HAC hit. Good for them.

Hopefully they can keep the streak going with their future albums too.

Don't care for this one. I find I don't care for Jon's upper register on this and on "The Sound," either. I don't recall him pushing his voice up that far previously, unless he's done this on album cuts all along.

Unlike all the other singles from Hello Hurricane, this tune is nothing more than average.

They came back to their core. Although they aren't 90s, 90s bands looking to make comebacks should take heed. Too many go straight to the more popular, but more fleeting Hot AC and CHR. "Your Love Is A Song" is floating in the top 5 on my iTunes most played list. (I haven't had a iPod that long, because I was a Zune guy for a few years).

Too many go straight to the more popular, but more fleeting Hot AC and CHR. I definitely wouldn't say Hot AC is "fleeting", but Alternative is really loyal to its core bands (even if they're 15 years old), so yeah this was a good move, which probably saved them from disappearing from secular radio Not a big fan of this, but I'm glad they're charting again (significantly)

As much of a Hot AC fan I've been over the years, I have to respectfully disagree here. It's really just watered down CHR these days. It has no real identity anymore. If songs like "Bonfire" by Third Eye Blind flop and Lifehouse's second single is being held out of the top 10 by Katy Perry and Taio Cruz, it's a function of the format becoming stagnant. It's going to be split between AAA and CHR as time passes. The pop divas have won. Hell, Kid Rock isn't even charting on the Adult Top 40.

Lifehouse's second single is being held out of the top 10 by Katy Perry and Taio Cruz ??? LIfehouse's second single peaked at #6 - it also sucks lol There's a lot of new buzz about bands like Cage The Elephant, My Chemical Romance, Neon Trees, Temper Trap, Paper Tongues, Sick Puppies, etc., so I was thinking Modern AC might be able to make a comeback in the next year or so St. Louis tried an Alternative/Hot AC hybrid this past year, but it just flipped to 90s hits today >:(

^ I think he meant that it was being held out of the Top 10 and it didn't seem like it was going to peak higher than #12, where it was stuck (I think). I was surprised with its comeback to peak at #6 with like huge gains and such. Wonder if they'll release a third single... ("It Is What It Is" >:(

There's no point in releasing a third if "All In" couldn't do anything. I'm actually suprised they didn't release the track with Daughtry. Lifehouse have pretty much joined the HAC crowd, who don't appeal to either pop or rock. Switchfoot were appealing to neither before "Hello Hurricane".

^ I'm implying HAC, which "All In" did VERY well for the song it was and it's previous chart run before it's big boost.
And yes, Lifehouse are pretty much done on alternative and active rock unless they make a very good rock-sounding album next, as Switchfoot has. I don't think they'll get a Top 10 hit if they did that on any format though.

They're pushing themselves more and more into that market though if they keeping releasing singles there, which haven't got a cat in hells chance of doing anything on pop. Even their lead singles are struggling now. Well, they look done on pop, aswell really. I can't see them hitting the top 10 there anytime soon.

If they get a good enough song produced, they may have a chance at Top 20 on pop with their next single. But not Top 10, unless they pull off a Train move.

Hot AC is a really profitable market though as far as making money off airplay - those stations hold on to their core artists and songs for years Lifehouse has been done with Alternative since 2005 - they get played on pop, but basically the smaller stations that daypart to HAC during the day I kinda wish they'd go back to putting out tracks like Sick Cycle Carousel, and building up an Alternative base again - but unlike Switchfoot, they basically own the HAC format, so I seriously doubt they would pull a move like that at this point

St. Louis tried an Alternative/Hot AC hybrid this past year, but it just flipped to 90s hits today >:( Whoa. Surprised you know about that. Yeah, I liked that one quite well. Had been hearing stuff like "Shadow of the Day" every so often during the year and "Dog Days Are Over" this past fall. It especially stings because I had just heard MGMT's "Kids" the other day, for the first time ever in regular rotation on terrestrial radio. The Alt station never added it. So now I'll probably be as loyal to the new station as I am to the Hot AC station and the Jack station, which is to say, good for only the occasional random song.

^Yeah actually a couple days after the St. Louis station flipped, a new Alternative/Hot AC hybrid station was started up in Seattle - I'm really hoping this new format can take off this year, especially with all the new indie-Alt. bands being signed to major labels - personally, I think Phoenix sounds a lot better mixed with The Script than it does mixed with Avenged Sevenfold BTW that new station in Seattle just played MGMT/Kids Here's a link to their stream... radiotime.com/station/s_26280/Click_989_FM.aspx
