There's been lots of talk about the next single in the Undo It thread. I have a feeling it's supposed to be discussed here, so I'm taking my response here.
A lot of people (myself included) have been fretting at the possibility of Mama's Song being released. There are fairly strong reasons for and against it. But I think one of the strongest reasons against it is fan reaction. I have to think that Carrie's label at least somewhat pays attention to fans' reaction of potential singles - it's nearly unanimous amongst both fans and non-fans that MS should not be released as a single. It's not that it's a bad song, it's just not right for a single - especially when there are so many other single-worthy songs on the album. I really hope they take this into consideration when choosing the fourth single (which I still say will either be WCIS or SWISLY, and I'll be shocked if it isn't one of those two).

I'd really love for SWISLY to be released next. However, I think it'd be a cool shake-up to release This Time, I think it'd to really well.

IMO it is pretty much guaranteed that WCIS will be released next. I mean, Carrie wants to boost Sons of Sylvia's career; therefore, releasing WCIS will be the perfect opportunity to do so. If WCIS becomes a big hit (which is certain) it will be a win-win situation for both camps. WCIS is also the perfect fall single. Furthermore, Carrie has yet to release one of her signature power ballads this era, which makes the release of the song even more likely.
What is rather uncertain is the fifth single.

I really love "Unapologize" and I think it would be great for a single in the future. I don't see it happening though...
I think WCIS is more than likely going to be the next single. My 2nd guess would be "Look At Me" being that she just got married and all...although I don't see Carrie really taking her personal life into consideration when picking the next single.
Honestly, I hope anything gets released, as long as it's not "Mama's Song" or "Change".
Carrie said in an interview that there will likely be 6 or 7 singles from this album, so who knows.
I hope SWISLY is a single next year (early 2011), so that way it doesn't have to compete with Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me" for all of the award shows this year. Not to mention competing with Carrie's own "Temporary Home". Someone brought all this up over at Carriefans, and I think it makes perfect sense.

My take on the next single....
SWISLY - #4 WCIS/LAM - #5
For a 6th single, as much as I hate this song, "Quitter" could end up becoming a huge success, so I see it as a great era closer.

I don't think 'LAM' will get released as a single. It's the only ballad from the album that's not performed on her tour. I especially hope that it's 'WCIS', or even 'SWISLY'. I just hope they don't send out 'Change' or 'MS'.

Didn't Carrie mention somewhere that LAM is really personal and "too mushy" (was it at fanclub party?) hence why she doesn't perform the song on tour? If she feels that way about the song, I think even the chances of Play On (the song) getting released is higher than LAM.
I agree with having Quitter as the era closer (but only if this era is 6 singles deep). SWISLY needs to be released, it's the most traditional country song she's had, not to mention it's a critics' fave.

I won't go as far as to say WCIS is guaranteed to be the next single, but i'll be stunned if it isn't a single at some point. as you said, to help her friends. and for those who hope she will ask keith urban to record a version of it with her and release that, its not going to happen, it'll be an absolute slap to the face of her friends. imagine if Brad asked Miranda to record a version of Oh Love with him and then release that version, Carrie fans will be outraged. I really love "Unapologize" and I think it would be great for a single in the future. I don't see it happening though... I don't expect Unapologize. to me its pretty much a straight up rock-pop song; i didn't even have to refer to the album liner to know who wrote that song Didn't Carrie mention somewhere that LAM is really personal and "too mushy" (was it at fanclub party?) hence why she doesn't perform the song on tour? If she feels that way about the song, I think even the chances of Play On (the song) getting released is higher than LAM. She mentioned too mushy, not sure about personal.

I thought she said the FC party people were lucky cause that's the only time she'll perform LAM because it's too personal to her and her feelings for Mike....Something like that.
I see WCIS being released too(To help SoS) but I really want SWISLY next. Please no to MS, Q and Change. TT would be a nice surprise if it was released but I see it more as a spring song.

I think SWISLY or WCIS would be the next single. Songs Like This probaby be the next single after SWISLY or WCIS, there is nothing wrong with MS or Change.

there is nothing wrong with MS or Change. Well there is nothing wrong with the songs themselves; but, as a single, absolutely not. Those 2 songs will undoubtedly end her #1 streak this era and do nothing for her album sales.

Now that 'Undo It" pretty much has no chance at 2 weeks at #1, they might as well announced the 4th single now.

I kind of want WCIS. Only if they push it to other formats though. Which they won't... nevermind I want SWISLY.

I actually think both of those will get a release. WCIS next, SWISLY ending the era. perfectWCIS to help Carrie's friends out, and for some decent cross-over success at Hot AC (would smash if they properly promoted it but we know that ain't happening). SIWSLY to end the era with a Country smash, and perhaps give Carrie a CMA 2011 award since it won't be competing with Miranda's THTBM.

I have more of an open mind for WCIS being the next single since the announcement will probably come within the next couple of weeks hopefully (before I go back to school), although it sounded like an album track to me and nothin' special. However, I can see that stopping her #1 streak, not by downright flopping but by stalling at, let's say, #2 or 3 on Mediabase. That could be either due to lack of label support or simply radio listeners getting tired of it. Like the Rascal Flatts' new single, WCIS could be a huge success, but personally I would get tired of it kinda quickly. My choice for single #4 would be SWISLY because it has more of a fall single sound to me and I can picture a downright gorgeous video to it. ON the contrary, I haven't really thought about that competing against MirLam's THTBM for this year's CMA Awards, but I don't think I would worry to much if SWISLY in fact is 4th unless it smashes into the Top 10 as soon as it comes out, which I highly doubt it would.
Oh, that reminds me. I need to play those songs for my friends (my mother, too, since she absolutely loves her, but detested UI) to see how they respond.

Why is anyone concerned about "Someday When I Stop Loving You" going up against "The House That Built Me" at the CMAs? The eligibility period for this year's CMAs ended on 30 June 2010. I can see being concerned that SWISLY might go up against THTBM at the Grammys, but I think that Arista Nashville will hold off on submitting SWISLY this year, regardless (the eligibility period for the Grammys ends on 31 August, and the label can easily hold off on submitting it until after it peaks on radio if it is released as a single). Then, the only time SWISLY and THTBM would potentially be going up against each other would be at the ACMs, and that would potentially be an issue whether SWISLY were released as a fourth or fifth single. Working around all the award shows gets a little counter-productive at a certain point.
I can see the concern that SWISLY would be in the shadow of the recent THTBM on country radio if it were released next, based on the somewhat similar styles. I don't know how big a concern that should be. I tend to think it isn't something that should stop Arista Nashville from releasing SWISLY next because I generally favor going with one's strengths. The songs are certainly different enough in subject and melody.
Oh, and just because I'm feeling peevish, are some of you trying to make "MirLam" happen as a nickname? Because Miranda has had a nickname for years that is just about as official as it comes: Ran. Want proof? Type in ranfans.com and see how it takes you to her official website.

I agree about the A/C potential....It's an opportunity that Carrie's career could seriously benefit from.... Alot of people are against crossing over, but In my opinion it would be, in the end, the best decision of Carrie's career. I'm still not convinced remixes are necessary either, so Carrie could stick to her guns and still be huge in other formats.
I could see it now, "WCIS" smashing at A/C...oh well....

I would be happy with either "Unapologize," "Someday When I Stop Loving You," "This Time," "Quitter" or even "What Can I Say" as the fourth & fifth singles. Seeing as how "Unapologize" looks to have no chance & "This Time" is slim, I'd go with SWISLY as the fourth single & "Quitter" as the fifth.

Carrie did a kick ass version of BHC for the 3rd hour of the Today Show. Was I the only one that caught it?
vinman-if you need BHC, let me know. I capped it.
