How the hell do you play survivor!?

So a question for those of you who frequent the games section: If I hosted some mafia games here, with fun music-related themes; would anyone actually be interested?

Sounds fun! Agree need some more explanation, or an example or something.

That helps! One question: during the day phase, do the mafia get to vote as well, or do they have to pretend to blend in without voting?

Now, how the hell would we make this music-related?

The moderator is also responsible for writing flavour at the beginning/end of each day and night describing what has happened. (Stories of murder in the night and all that jazz; just more flavour to make it more music themed)

Yes; the only thing involving music is the 'flavour' of the game. The 'flavour' of the game does not affect the mechanics of the game, just the theme. [Think of survivor. The act of adding/subtracting from things is the mechanic of the game; and the songs/artists that you are using is the flavour to make it more enjoyable.]



The only time roles are announced by the moderator are when the moderator announces when someone dies and such. The moderator will then reveal what they were. At the end of the game the moderator posts all role PMs for everyone to see.



During the Night Phase, the Cop would PM the moderator a command such as "Investigate: Slizzard" and at the end of the night phase, the moderator would PM the Cop an answer such as "Guilty" or "Innocent". Then Cop would be the only one with that knowledge, and then during the day phase during discussion the Cop could do a few things. The Cop could just come right out and say "I'm the Cop guys, I found out that Slizzard is guilty, let's lynch him!" Or the Cop could keep his role secret (let's say there are 2 mafia still left, and if he says he's the cop, then he'll get killed the next night instead of being able to investigate again) so he says something like "Looking at the discussion from yesterday, I think Slizzard is mafia guys, he voted for the townie we ended up lynching first." or something along those lines.



During the Night Phase, the Doctor would PM the moderator a command such as "Protect: Slizzard" and then the next morning, either there will be a kill or there won't be a kill. If there is a kill, that means protecting Slizzard didn't do anything for one of two reasons: He's a mafia himself and thus was never going to be targeted to be killed, or he wasn't the townie that the mafia cared about killing yet. Essentially, that gives no information. If there isn't a kill, then that means that the doctor likely successfully stopped the mafia kill, meaning that the person who was protected isn't mafia since they were targeted for a kill that ended up failing due to the doctor protecting. Thus it would make sense for the doctor to claim "Hey guys, I'm the doctor and I protected Slizzard, meaning we're both town!"

For both the Cop and Doctor roles, that's generally how it plays out...until more advanced roles are added to the game. However, I'm planning on running a very simple set-up at first, so you won't have to even worry about that.



A "day" in the game of mafia doesn't equal an actual day. Same with the "night", it's simply terminology. For instance, a "Day Phase" can be 2 weeks. That gives people adequate time to talk with one another, even with time zone differences and life being busy. Also a "Night Phase" is usually like 2/3 days to give people time to send in their kill/investigation/protection to the moderator.



Everyone is able to change their vote throughout the "Day Phase". You can change your vote at any time during the "Day Phase". So you might be voting 'josh' but then if someone else does something that makes you change your mind, then you can just switch your vote to them. You talk and discuss and make your arguments for why people need to vote with you to get the person who you think is scum lynched. Hence why the "Day Phase" gives lots of time.

The mafia is not required to tell the truth! The goal of the mafia is to trick townspeople into lynching their own by pretending to be townspeople, so of course they are lying. It just comes down to if the mafia are good enough liars to trick people or if the townspeople are good enough to catch the liars.

Yes, I would be the moderator of the game.

Two weeks is the LIMIT to the day. If you get 4 votes on someone in 72 hours, then good for you all for coming to a consensus so fast! The day will end then with someone getting lynched, and then it'll be night. So you don't have to sit around doing nothing forever.

If throughout the whole day phase, no one ever has 4 votes on them at any point in time, then it just goes to night phase without a lynch [meaning you pretty much gave mafia a free kill]. And then after you give them their free kill, then it goes to the next day phase and you'll have another chance to lynch. So it's always a good thing to lynch, even if it isn't your personal top suspect; if deadline is approaching and everyone but you seems to want to lynch someone you don't want to, it's better to lynch and take the shot at mafia than letting them get the free nightkill on you.

And in basic games, the moderator will never lie. The moderator almost never lies unless the mechanics call for it (and even then it isn't lying, it's just specific complex roles that you don't have to worry about yet). I'll give an example of when the moderator would 'lie'. Let's say when I tell the cop that he's the cop, I tell him 'Your sanity is not confirmed'. That means the cop could be 'sane' or 'insane' but doesn't know which. If the cop is sane, then his results will be correct. If the cop is insane, then his results will be the opposite of what is true. So the moderator would be 'lying', but not really since he already told the cop that his sanity isn't confirmed and thus the cop should know to take his results with a grain of salt.

That's pretty much as basic as it can get. As you can see, you can end up with arguments forming even when you don't really have anything to discuss at the beginning of the game. It's amazing how in-depth arguments can get in big games with advanced players.
