She's been notching hits on the chart beginning with her 2000 debut, "Who Is Jill Scott?," rose to a No. 17 peak the following year. Since then, she's released three more studio albums, a live set and a collaborations collection. Right behind her at No. 2 this week is folk rock act Bon Iver, who sees its self-titled second full-length album take a bow with 104,000. This marks both its highest-charting set and best sales week yet. Fronted by singer/songwriter Justin Vernon, the Bon Iver's previous high-water mark came when its "Blood Bank" EP debuted and peaked at No. 16 with 23,000 in 2009. Adele's "21" holds at No. 3 with 101,000 (down 12%) while Jackie Evancho's "Dream With Me" falls two to No. 4 in its second week (77,000; down 52%). "21" spends its 18th week lodged in the top three of the chart while its cumulative sales rise to 2.43 million. It continues to reign as the U.S.' top-selling album of 2011. Country singer Justin Moore's second full-length album, "Outlaws Like Me," debuts at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Country Albums chart with 65,000. The runner-up on the Country Albums chart this week, Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party," slips five rungs on the Billboard 200 to No. 10 with 40,000 (down 22%). Last week's No. 1, Bad Meets Evil's "Hell: the Sequel," also falls five slots to No. 6 (63,000; down 63%) while Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" dips four to No. 8 (49,000; down 27%). Sandwiched between those two is a new arrival from Pitbull, as his "Planet Pit" starts at No. 7 with 55,000. It's his second top 10 set following 2009's "Rebelution," which debuted and peaked at No. 8. His new album was preceded by the set's top 10 Billboard Hot 100 singles "Hey Baby (Drop It To the Floor)" (featuring T-Pain) and "Give Me Everything" (featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer). Rounding out the new entries in the top 10 this week is "Weird Al" Yankovic who earns his highest charting album ever as "Alpocalypse" laughs its way to at No. 9 debut (44,000). Led by the single "Perform This Way" (a parody of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way"), the album surpasses his previous career-high peak with his last studio set, 2006's "Straight Outta Lynwood," which debuted and peaked at No. 10. Over on the Digital Songs chart, Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" fends off the advances of Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera as the former holds at No. 1 (226,000; down 4%) while the latter pairing's new "Moves Like Jagger" debuts in the No. 2 slot with 213,000. The latter single premiered on the June 21 edition of NBC's "The Voice," where Maroon front man Adam Levine and Aguilera serve as coaches to the singing contestants. LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" (featuring Lauren Bennett & GoonRock) is pushed back a slot to No. 3 (212,000) despite its 1% sales gain while Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" slips a rung to No. 4 (187,000; down 7%). Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" is stationary at No. 5 (170,000; down 9%), Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" slides up one to No. 6 (169,000; up 13%) and Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory" falls one to No. 7 (149,000; down 1%). Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" falls four slots to No. 8 (141,000; down 26%) and Lil Wayne's "How to Love" moves 9-10 (130,000; 1%). Making a big jump into the top 10 is Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight Tonight," which zips 14-9 with 137,000 (up 41%). It's the sixth straight weekly sales gain for the song, which concurrently bullets at No. 12 on the Pop Songs airplay chart. Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending June 26) totaled 5.92 million units, down 6% compared to the sum last week (6.30 million) and down 2% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (6.07 million). Year to date album sales stand at 149.12 million, up less than 1% compared to the same total at this point last year (148.42 million). It is the fifth week in a row where year-to-date album volume is greater than the same time in the prior year. Digital track sales this past week totaled 25.29 million downloads, up 1% compared to last week (25.11 million) and up 17% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (21.57 million). Year to date track sales are at 635.35 million, up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year (575.96 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Eminem's "Recovery" held at No. 1 for a second week (313,000; down 58%) while The-Dream's "Love King" was the top debut at No. 4 with 58,000.

That's great IMO.
I do think that this year the Music Industry (albums + singles) will end up being better than last year.

^That's correct- I meant to say that overall year-to-date album sales still in the green (as little as it may be) compared to the same point last year, when Eminem's album scanned 741k. :) And, a 2% dip compared to the same week last year isn't bad at all, considering how much the No. 1 album last year sold.

^slick, do you comment on other acts, or is it 99.9% Eminem-related? Just curious. It is nice to see three 100K+ albums this week. Well...My favorite bands take a long time between albums. :lol: When its an artist I love i comment. Tool, A Perfect Circle, System Of A Down, Nine Inch Nails, Eminem, Puscifer, D12, Cold, Disturbed, Slipknot, ASHES dIVIDE, and etc. Point is my top 3 favorite artists are Eminem, Tool, and A Perfect Circle. Tool hasnt released anything since 2006. APC since 2004. Puscifer doesnt sell enough to really chart highly. Point is i would comment on more if there was really more for me to comment on. |

Alpocalypse is Yankovic's highest-charting album to date. Straight Outta Lynwood debuted and peaked at #10 in 2006. Yankovic has owned his little piece of the pop-music pie for a very long time. He's been around long enough that he tweaked Madonna in 1985 when she was the attention-grabbing pop-dance megastar. Yankovic reached #47 that year with "Like A Surgeon," a parody of Madonna's #1 smash "Like A Virgin." Yankovic first "bubbled under" the Hot 100 in March 1981 with "Another One Rides The Bus," a parody of Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust." His career went into high gear in April 1984 went he reached #12 with "Eat It," a parody of Michael Jackson's "Beat It." Yankovic been good about maintaining a fairly regular presence without wearing out his welcome. He just waits for an opening and seizes it. Alpocalypse will give the Lonely Island's Turtleneck & Chain a run for its money as the year's best-selling comedy album. Turtleneck has sold 137,000 copies so far this year. Alpocalypse is Yankovic's second album to incorporate his first name in its title. He scored in 1993 with Alapalooza. Yankovic's 1996 album Bad Hair Day sold 1,317,000 copies that year, which remains the calendar-year sales record for a comedy album in the Nielsen SoundScan era. The key track was "Amish Paradise," a parody of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise." One final note about Gaga: Though Born This Way drops from #4 to #8 in the U.S., the album returns to #1 for a third week in the U.K. Jill Scott's The Light Of The Sun debuts at #1. It has fallen only to albums by Elton John, Fleetwood Mac and Journey. Matt Nathanson's Modern Love bows at #17. Some Mad Hope hit #60 in 2007. The Zac Brown Band's You Get What You Give dips from #15 to #22 in its 40th week. The album tops the 1 million mark in sales this week. The band's debut album, The Foundation, is up to 2,652,000 (not counting 52K for an exclusive Cracker Barrel edition.)...While I'm at it, Sugarland's The Incredible Machine topped the 1 million mark two weeks ago. It's the duo's fourth million-selling album. Lemonade Mouth drops from #34 to #44 in its 11th week. It's #1 on Top Soundtrack Albums for the seventh week...Transformers: Dark Of The Moon drops from #81 to #104 in its second week. It's the top-ranking soundtrack to a theatrically-released film for the second week. The movie opens today. Let's see if that pumps some life into the album. Cars 2 was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. The soundtrack debuts at #152. The soundtrack to the original Cars reached #6 in 2006. Foo Fighters' Back & Forth is #1 on Top Music Videos for the second straight week. Coming Attractions: Beyonce's 4 is expected to debut at #1 next week, with a first-week total around 300K. Big Sean's Finally Famous: The Album, Selena Gomez & the Scene's When The Sun Goes Down and David Cook's This Loud Morning are also eyeing top 10 debuts. I think part of album sales being up is the fact that labels seem to FINALLY be getting with the times an utilizing the Internet and doing discounts, etc. I knew things were gonna have to change years ago. Glad to see some people have finally figured out what they need to do.
Also, I said a few years back that when MTV stopped playing music related stuff was also around the time music sales started going downhill. Granted, it was more of a coincidence with the economy, but shows like Diary, making the video, good music videos, etc helped me to love some of my faves. I mean you feel more connected to an artist when you get to see their personality and see more of who they are. Now, we have twitter. Fans are feeling more connected to acts again, and I think it's showing in album sales. Also, people are putting effort into videos again. You can argue "quality" all day long, but one thing is certain, and that's that the music world has become interesting and exciting again.
