This chart was never published in Radio and Records magazine. This would be dated September 21, 2001 for Radio and Records, but would have been September 16, 2001 for Mediabase. Radio and Records had just begun using the Mediabase Charts in early August of 2001. Many of us who used the message boards on the Radio and Records website were dismayed that this chart was never published, and especially the fact that no one knew where "God Bless The USA" would have ranked. Well, here is the full top 100 charts with recurrents and golds included. You can see that most of the top songs had lost a considerable amount of spins. There were only a handful of songs on the entire chart that had bullets. By the way "God Bless The USA" fell to number 86 the following week.

Very interesting to read. I remember how certain songs all of a sudden made a u-turn downward (like Start The Commotion), while people thought that songs like Only Time and Hero seemed appropriate to play given the event.

Oooh very cool. So God Bless the USA was probably somewhere in the top 40 on the chart without recurrents.

I believe this is actually the unpublished 09/21 R&R chart.
Do you happen to have any other formats?

There were 11 recurrents above "God Bless The USA", so it would have been number 42. Yes, this is the unpublished R&R chart. I'm sorry, but I didn't get any other formats while I had access.

I believe this is actually the unpublished 09/21 R&R chart. Do you happen to have any other formats? a) Does that mean this is the wrong chart and you'd like to see the 9/14 chart, or this is the right one and the date is wrong or what... I don't know. b) Which format/s are you interested in.

There were 11 recurrents above "God Bless The USA", so it would have been number 42. I don't think it would have charted, since it was a gold song. So the only accurate assessment would be that it would have been #53 with recurrents.

I don't know. b) Which format/s are you interested in. I was just saying that technically the unpublished chart was for the 09/21 issue, NOT the 09/14 issue. I keep track of 7 formats, and for some formats I was able to get the actual data, while for others I had to use guesswork: 1) CHR/Pop: I actually have this chart, although I have a few positions switched for some reason (#17 and #18 for example). 2) AC: I have the top 20, but I guessed/estimated on 21-30. 3) Hot AC: I have this chart except 29 and 30, which I had to guess/estimate. 4) Alternative: I know the top 12, but I had to guess/estimate the rest. 5) Active: I know the top 9, but I had to guess/estimate the rest. 6) Rock: I know the top 9, but I had to guess/estimate the rest. 7) Adult Alternative: I know the top 7, but I had to guess/estimate the rest. So I was just curious if someone had the actual data, which is why I asked.

Getting the others now, apologies if I mucked something up.
Edit: excuse me on my knowledge of non-pop formats, but is Adult Alternative "Triple A" and Rock "Mainstream Rock"?

How about that. I never thought I'd see those charts.
I assumed that I had been given the official pop chart, but my 9, 10, 17, 18, 25, 26, 40, 41, 42, 43 positions are different. I was surprised with how close my estimates were on the other formats. Really the only differences I had were from guessing incorrectly on some positions for songs on the 09/21 chart that dropped off on 09/28.
Yes, triple A and mainstream rock are the other two.
Thanks very much!!!

Thanks for posting!
Does anyone know why "Speed Kills" by Bush was not in the top 50 of alternative, active, or rock? It had a pretty good debut the previous week, so its absence doesn't make sense. Maybe it had something to do with the title being changed to "The People That We Love." However, I noticed that another song whose title changed, Cold's "Thirteen" ("Bleed" prior to 9/11), was not affected. It was at #45 on active rock with a +68 bullet. ???

I updated the title to try to aviod any more confusion than I already caused. This would have been what Radio and Records would have dated September 21, 2001, instead of September 14th, as I previously posted. The data was the Sunday evening data from September 16th from Mediabase. Sorry about that!

Does anyone have an old R&R magazine available that they would be able to scan and upload a chart page in it, so I could have a look? I've never seen one, so it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A few days ago I was actually going to make a post about this, but then I decided not to. If you look on those three charts, you'll notice a missing position number in the top 20. That's "speed kills". I found this humorous.

On that topic, I've never noticed a missed number that high, but in the full currents-only chart, most of the time there are a few numbers skipped, generally in the 600's or so though.

I second this. Anyone? (Sorry, but this thread was bumped down 1.5 pages) Edit: The Great Whi$tlin' Pete kindly provided me with 3 R&R chart scans. :)

I remember R&R was published that week but there were no charts. The unpublished chart does give You Rock My World and Every Other Time a higher peak by 1 spot.
I remember hearing Jewel's "Hands" a lot during that time as well. Any word on where that would've landed?

Thanks for posting these charts! Even though R&R didn't put out an issue, Casey still used Mediabase charts for his 3 shows. I assume Rick Dees did as well.
