i don't like the idea of counting singles as part of the overall picture, and ringtones and video sales, too. If we just count album sales, then what does the ranking look like?

Yeah, this is what I was actually asking for. It would be great if they posted a different numbers for album and single sales :)

The sensible way to do it, if you had the raw data, would be to weight a single as, say, 1/10th of an album - I know the prices have varied over time, but that's usually around where the ratio has been.

BOMT has sold 25 million. Between OIDIA which has sold 21 million, Britney which has sold 12 million, ITZ which has sold 8 million, GH:MP which has sold 6 million and Blackout and Circus which have sold 3 and 4 million respectively are you going to tell me she has only sold 3 million singles? No way. But sis, which one is it? You and your fellow Brit fan seem to have a difference of opinion on her sales.

Other than that, all the album sales look pretty accurate

Britney has sold about 110 million records. I would say it's closer to 120 or right in the teens. But for the most part it's accurate. It seems that some of her sales have been shaved off though. This is often the case when one asks how much has one sold or how much has one shipped. Shipped/sold are the same thing, since shipped means that the record stores have purchased the albums to sell to the public. Sold however is the term used how many albums have been sold out to the public. BOMT has been credited with over 25 million, OIDIA has also been credited with over 20 million, Britney has been credited with 12 million, In The Zone has shipped 8 million, Those other sales look correct for the most part though. I think Blackout sold around 2.2 million prior to it being out of the World Chart though which makes me think that it's total will be a bit higher. The singles do look accurate though. Even though the sales for OIDIA look a little paltry. But that might be because the United World Chart is always iffy about their point/sales system. UK Mix has the most accurate sales levels though, but even those seem kind of outdated sometimes.

Guys, counting ringtones and downloads does not giva an accurate picture!
Physical singles: 5$ Digital singles: 1$
You should stick to albums/EPs only...

I don't know who else will hit 100 million worldwide, and it's a tough stat to look at considering there is no official tabulation.
I'd say, however, that any artist who is not relatively close to breaking 100 million by this point, has a very slim chance considering how albums sell anymore...or don't....

discussing album sales is meaningless. everybody inflates their fav. artist number. Now we adding digital downloads to album sales...lol
