DROPPERS:Christina Aguilera "The Voice Within" (from 22) Holy crap... with AT40's new methodology, I never thought a song would drop off from that high a position anymore. And yet 50 Cent continues to climb... >:(

I would have posted it, but AT40 is garbage. Plus, I am sick of Seacrest, so I refuse to listen to the show. Does he really have the talent to replace Casey Kasem and Rick Dees? I doubt it. World Chart Show or Hollywood Hamilton is probably what I will listen to from now on.

Seems like AT40 may have adopted a recurrent rule similar to whatever it was in late 2000, with songs dropping out from inside the Top Ten. However, what is "In Da Club" still doing on the list? It was about this time in 2003 that it debuted, wasn't it? It needs to go!

Seacrest is the flava of the month, once AI dies, you can see his popularity plummet to nothingness, that is the only reason why he replaced credible radio talents such as Casey Kasem and Rick Dees (so the guys jokes are lame, it still doesn't make him a total lame ass for a radio job). I can't wait for him to GO!

I think "Voice" would've taken a steep drop this week anyway, but probably wouldn't have fallen completely out if not for all the slower dropping (or rising!) recurrent songs clogging up the 20s and 30s.

I can't wait for him to GO! Well I think Ryan Seacrest is a pretty good voice talent. I can really understand why they gave a young rising personality like him a chance. I just don't personally like the format of the revamped AT40 and what they forced him into. But that's the whole entertainment industry for you. Which is no offense to Ryan of course.

I've got nothin' against Ryan personally... I think he did a great job the times that he subbed for Casey on the real AT40. The new format sucks though... anybody they got to host would have a hard time making it work.

I don't know how AT40 gets their calculations, but "White Flag" would be #30 on a recurrentless Mediabase chart, but AT40 has it at #39.
Maybe it will miraculosly jump 7 places next week to #32.
does anyone have a Mediabase code to look at this at40 chart, like H1R gives you the full R&R chart?
LOL: "White Flag" is receiving more spins than "In Da Club"
XM Radio 90's on 9 All 90's, no overplayed Hot AC hits such as "Wherever You Will Go" or "Unwell".

I suppose if someone looked up the weekly playlists for every AT40 affiliate and added them together... which makes me wonder, do they also count airplay from the small-market affiliates that are unmonitored?

But isn't there the "voting" factor as well? That will be difficult to assess from just the playlists.

According to a staff member, the voting is just a "web-thing".
It is not actually a part of the chart--just something to give the website more interactivity.

How exactly do they come up for the votes for the debuts? For example, Janet debuted at #40, and she's already #20 in votes! Can anyone explain this?

I don't think the chart's based entirely on votes. Remember how at first, before any real voting could start, the chart was based on the playlists of all the stations running AT40 (or something like that?). I believe it's still partially based on that. Back in the 1980's, a New York City DJ known as Scott Shannon had a show called the "Rockin' America Top 30 Countdown". From its inception in 1985 up to some point or other in 1990, the show followed the R&R chart, for the most part (i.e. think Rick Dees!), but in 1990 (my station had dropped the show, or so I thought, so I don't know exactly when), the show became a request countdown, but it was still partially based on the R&R charts. I think the new AT40 has the same concept.

I just noticed something. Almost every non-top 20 song has peaked lower on the new AT40 than on R&R except for one song: "The Trouble With Love Is" by Kelly Clarkson, which peaked FOUR spots HIGHER. Hmm...

Even if they are cheating for American Idols, all the songs on the countdown get one spin regardless of position except for possibly one song being played twice, and Kelly hasn't been played twice. "Eighth World Wonder" by Kimberley Locke and "The Way" by Clay Aiken could be more evidence if American Idols have an unfair advantage.
