That was about when it was, but Rick has never mentioned that, to my best of knowledge. One time, I think someone wrote in, asking when the Weekly Top 40 started, and then Rick played a clip of him saying "This is Rick Dees and the Weekly Top 40", speeding up his voice to sound like he was about ten years old.
Did AT40 get any recognition back in 2000 during its 30th anniversary? If not, then this will probably be no different.

Doubtful. I think the last time AT40's anniversary was mentioned on-air was in July 1999, when they opened the show with a clip from the first show in 1970 (very cool moment, by the way). Casey mentioned that AT40 was beginning its 30th year.

I miss the good old days when AT40 ran a special on the 4th Of July. Especially in the late 1980s, when they didn't use the special show to replace the regular weekly show, but even when they did. Some of those specials were really cool, especially the 20th Anniversary special, ran back on July 4, 1990. For those who missed that one, that show was not a countdown. What they did was take one year at a time, talk about the goings-on in that year, both general and musicwise. For some years, they played a montage of hits (I know that they did one for 1975, 1976 and 1983, but I think there may have been a few more). They also played a montage of songs by a certain artist (I believe they did all the number one songs by Phil Collins). At the end (the "grand finale"), they played the number one songs from Independence Day Weekend, from 1970 through 1989.
All in all, a very good show. A must have for every collection of AT40 shows.
