#30. I guess "Shake It Off" will go 8-1 next week? Still no new Green Day in Top 40? Instead it was the Breakout song. :o I just love how they think they have to play songs just dropping out as extras. Or Ryan just HAVING to play Moron 5 again. Let's do this again. What songs seriously, need to go buh-bye? Here is my Top 10: 1. Since U Been Gone---Although I would kinda like to see it break the 3DD record. 2. Mr. Brightside 3. Sugar (Gimme Some)---Outstayed its welcome in a big way. 4. Lonely No More 5. Switch---Worst song of Will Smith's career, but his biggest hit. Can't figure that one out. 6. Let Me Go---3DD songs seem to have major staying power. 7. Just A Lil' Bit---Just because 50 needs to go away. 8. Baby I'm Back 9. Hollaback Girl 10. Oh. Where is "Like You"?

Wake Me Up When September Ends hasn't debuted yet? Yeah, and neither has "Photograph" by Nickelback. Both songs are in the Top 30 of the corresponding September 9, 2005 chart. Yet "Oh" by Ciara featuring Ludacris is still way up at #31, "Your Body" by Pretty Ricky debuts, and "Just A Lil' Bit" still sticks around. All three songs are lower on the matching R&R chart than Green Day or Nickelback. Look for high debuts by both songs next week. That is, unless they're gearing up to become three weeks behind, which wouldn't surprise me in the least! Remember, AT40 is two weeks behind the R&R chart (though I certainly don't know why, but whatever.) and D.H.T. are #1 on the matching chart. They might also be #1 on AT40 next week if they opt not to let Mariah Carey take an unusually large jump to the top. But so far, they've had all #1 songs coincide with those on the corresponding chart. The only difference is, since they elected to be two weeks behind, that gave Mariah an extra week on top with "We Belong Together".

I just love how they think they have to play songs just dropping out as extras. Yeah, I don't think they will be letting go of their precious recurrents any time soon.

I guess giving Mariah an extra week on top made them 2 weeks behind. Now they're almost as slow as Hollywood Hamilton's chart. He gave Gwen Stefani an extra week at the top with "Hollaback Girl" and I don't know how he got behind the other one or two weeks. And Rick Dees is insane. I just wish there was a chart out there that was normal.

I guess giving Mariah an extra week on top made them 2 weeks behind. Actually, for your second statement, it's the other way around. Them switching to being two weeks behind made Mariah Carey spend an extra week on top. They used to be just a week behind, but around the first few weeks of Mariah's stay at the top, they sort of slowed the chart down and slowly evolved to being two weeks behind, giving Mariah Carey an extra week at #1 in the process. That said, Green Day should make a high debut next week, possibly even in the Top 20, since it's at #18 on the September 16 chart, which should match up to next week's chart. More likely, though, I would imagine that Green Day will debut around #25. They'd just melt if someone broke Jon Secada's record for highest debut

Avril, on the other hand... ;)[/font]

Yeah, they didn't count Avril as a debut, due to a technical problem.
Eminem's debut was what made me think that they don't want Jon Secada's record broken. It debuted at #13 on the R&R chart and I thought it would probably do the same at AT40, since the song wouldn't be pushed down by recurrents, plus AT40 seemed to favor Rhythmic songs, but it only came in at #18.

Well, I just don't see why want to protect a record set by Jon Secada. I mean, all due respect, he's not exactly an immortal pop music icon.
Besides, didn't Madonna debut at #15 with "Frozen" in 1998? Also, I thought the American Top 40 record was Madonna's "Erotica" debuting at #8.

And it went down from there cuz it never hit #1.

Yeah, but the Erotica record will probably never be mentioned again since they can't reference Billboard chart info.

Yeah, but the Erotica record will probably never be mentioned again since they can't reference Billboard chart info. That, and the Shadoe era of AT40 never happened. Well, anything after January 22, 1989, since that's the info they used when referring to former number one songs. Therefore, the record is actually tied with "Frozen" by Madonna. I was sort of being facetious when referring to Jon Secada's record. It's just that songs don't make high debuts like they do on the R&R chart. Songs below #25 are understandable, because the recurrents tend to hinder songs from making high debuts on AT40, but I can't think of any reason that "Just Lose It" by Eminem debuted so much lower on AT40 than on the R&R chart, given the fact that there were no recurrent songs still hanging around in the Top 20. Don't get me wrong; I'm actually kind of glad that "Just Lose It" didn't break the record. "If You Go" might have been overplayed, but at least it wasn't a loud, obnoxious song like "Just Lose It".

Well, the only thing I can hypothesize on that point (and maybe why there are usually other inconsistencies in the top 20), is that maybe they don't use a Sunday night update of whatever stations they add into this.
