Gotye has had arguably the biggest hit of 2012 with "Somebody That I Used To Know". Follow-up single "Eyes Wide Open" barely made the Top 20 at Alternative radio and hasn't even been pushed to any other radio formats.
Do you think "Somebody That I Used To Know" will remain Gotye's only significant hit?
You may now spend the next few pages arguing over what a one-hit wonder is and how he's not because "Eyes Wide Open" made the 90s of the Hot 100.

It's so sad, but 'yes'. For now at least. Fun. and Carly Rae are not one-hit wonders already.

Unfortunately I hope Carly is too. She can be like Orianthi.

^ Carly already has a second hit.. And "According to You" didn't have one tenth of the success of "Call Me Maybe."

I don't think Carly has a second hit yet--I'm sure it will be, but if it stopped today no one would remember it a year from now.
Anyway, I think it seems likely. Which is disappointing, but doesn't make his album any less wonderful.

I say yes, just because I don't think he will put in alot of effort in the future to have another hit.

I think he should take advantage of the fact that theres a lot of variety in radio ATM and they're willing to play songs. However, it just seems like he would be a one-hit wonder

It seems as though that is what is going to happen. le sigh
While Carly Jepsen and Fun. continue to get hits.... . . .. . . . . .
But stranger things have happened so I am not gonna lose that last glimmer of hope. 'Eyes Wide Open' and the rest of Making Mirrors is so incredible and everybody else should get a chance to listen to some of the other songs on it. He is also extremely talented and he's honestly, of all of the potential one hit wonders going around recently, head and shoulders the most talented of the bunch. Also I don't think Gotye really cares if STIUTK is his only "hit" song. He didn't even perform STIUTK at certain radio events for radio stations and he's on record as saying he wasn't expecting the song to be so huge and his goal is simply to make music that challenges him and music that he is proud of and that he isn't so concerned with the "hit single" part of it which is what really matters when you're a real artist.

I don't think he'll ever have ANYTHING close as substantial to "Somebody That I Used To Know".

I think he will be, he's not focused on radio hits.
What is the problem with being a one hit wonder? It still has a negative connotation but there are so many ways to have a successful career outside of constant radio airplay these days. I see a lot of artists have songs that are more akin to crossover hits.

The fact that he even got one hit is pretty great for him since he doesn't seem like the type of artist that really has all that much interest in them. So yes, but I'm sure he doesn't really give a shit.
