Spotlight: Songs with People's Names in the Title

HOUR 1

°10. You Found Me - The Fray: down 1 & 3rd week in the top-10

°(#1 POP This Week in 1984) Let's Hear It for the Boy - Deniece Williams; song reached #1 on the POP, Urban, and Dance Charts.

°(Spotlight from 1973) Daniel - Elton John; song is about a fictional Vietnam war veteran.

°09. The Climb - Miley Cyrus: debut; "Hannah Montana: The Movie" is the top Country Album this week.

°(From 2009) If I Were a Boy - Beyonce; is the lead singer (Shine) for the Wubb Girlz on the animated Nick Jr. tv show "Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!" The main character Wubbzy looks like a yellow kitty cat whose spends time with friends Widget, Walden, and Daizy eating ice cream cones and getting into trouble. Shine is a "sweet young lady whenever Wubbzy needs a little help or friend. She's right there with the Wubb Girlz to give him a helping hand. I think Shine is pretty cool."

°(Spotlight from 1981) Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield; song is based on the time Rick, his friend Gary, and Gary's girlfriend taking a class together. Rick then fell for her. However, "I was never actually introduced to her. She was always like a painting from afar."

°(From 1994) Come to My Window - Melissa Etheridge

°(From 2003) Calling All Angels - Train; one critic describes tune as "a hymn to commitment that builds steadily to a clinging climax."

°08. Crush - David Archuleta: down 1; "When I'm home with my family, dinners are a big deal. Everyone has a specialty, and I've turned into David: The Italian Chef. Pasta is easy to make as long as you don't overcook it. The sauce is a lot more complicated. You've got to get spices just right, especially the garlic. I'm the best Italian cook in the family. I make a great lasagna. Everyone loves my minestrone. If I ever stopped making music, I'm opening a restaurant: Archuleta's Italian Cuisine."

°(Spotlight from 1995) Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something; title is a 1961 movie that starred Audrey Hepburn. Tiffany's jewelry store was founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany.

°07. If You Don't Know Me by Now - Seal: up 1; he started out by singing at local clubs. He later joined a British funk group name Push. Afterwards, he joined a blues band in Thailand before eventually becoming famous as a solo artist.

°(From 1982) Don't You Want Me - The Human League; title was found in a "trashy tabloid".

HOUR 2

°(From 2005) Home - Michael Bublé; a remake of the song by Blake Shelton hit #1 on the Country Chart in 2008.

°06. Love Remains the Same - Gavin Rossdale: holding for 4th week; "The press would be all over you if you behave stupidly, so I decided to never act that way. I'm never drunk in public. I don't get into fights with fans. I don't wreck hotel rooms. I don't behave like a complete idiot. I don't do anything that makes me interesting to the press."

°(Spotlight from 1976) Sara Smile - Hall & Oates; Sara was Daryl Hall's girlfriend; other female names used in 70's songs include: Brandy, Amie, Clair, Angie, Delta Dawn.

°(From 1991) Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn; song helped him win a Grammy for Best New Artist.

#1's on the Other Charts
Album - Together Through Life - Bob Dylan
Urban - Boyfriend No. 2 - Pleasure P
Country - She's Country - Jason Aldean

°05. Viva La Vida - Coldplay: down 1

°(Spotlight from 1992) Layla - Eric Clapton; although the song is about George Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd, the name Layla is from a 12th Century Persian story about a man who loves an unavailable woman.

°(From 2009) Where Did I Lose Your Love - Journey

°04. Better In Time - Leona Lewis: down 1; Entertainment Weekly says it is "one of the 10 best singles of 2008."

°(From 2009) Light On - David Cook; helped his team raise $98,000 when he participated in the "Race for Hope". It seems like a small sacrifice compared to what those who have fought cancer have endured (like his brother Adam who had died the day before the race). I lost one today, but I gained 9000 friends. I'll be here every year."

°(Spotlight from 1976) Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac; song title is based on a mythological character from a book Stevie Nicks had purchased at the airport.

°(From 2004) Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Michael McDonald

°(From 1985) What About Love - Heart; Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas of Starship provided background vocals. Song was originally recorded in 1982 by the Canadian band Toronto.

HOUR 3

°(#1 This Week in 1983) My Love - Lionel Richie; has sold 100mil albums worldwide.

°(LDD) Circle of Life - Elton John

Dear Casey,

I want to dedicate a song to my brother and his wife. I'm now retired (age 65), but Bob and Donna are in their mid-50's and work all the time. They actually have a home Oremen Beach, Florida for the last 22 years but are almost never there. They drive a tractor trailer full time and only at home occasionally if they're lucky. Bob and Donna are always going from one state to another, and I only get to see them once a year. Hmm... sometimes twice. I think of them all the time. Casey, please tell them I miss them and love them very much. I listen to your program every Sunday and always picture them out there on the highways listening as well. Please dedicate "Circle of Life" to Bob and Donna. I really do worry about them a lot having no time for anything (only work). Thanks Casey.

Leoda

°03. What About Now - Daughtry: up 2

°(#1 POP This Week in 1999) Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer; they broke up in 2004, but got together in 2007 to record a Christmas album.

°(From 2001) This I Promise You - 'N Sync; Justin Timberlake is too busy to release a new album because he is always "featured" on songs from others like the Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, Madonna, Ciara, 50 Cent, Duran Duran, and T.I.. "Right now I like the idea that things just kind of pop up, and if they feel right, I do them. I'm not ready to block two years of my life (for a new album). I'm having a good time working with others. I don't want to change anything."

°(Spotlight from 2007) Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's; Tom Higgenson wrote the song about a college girl who already had a boyfriend.

°02. Love Story - Taylor Swift: holding for 9th week; the prince in the video is Miley Cyrus' boyfriend Justin Gaston.

°(Spotlight from 1998) Iris - Goo Goo Dolls; the John Rzeznik song named after singer Iris DeMent was the top POP song for 1998.

°(From 2000) I Try - Macy Gray; she now uses the name Nemesis Jaxson.

°(Spotlight from 1982) Jack and Diane - John Cougar; idea for song came after he watched the 1961 film "Splendor in the Grass" starring Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood, although the song is also about his own youth.

°01. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz: holding for 13th week & 14th week at #1; "I've been moving toward a healthy lifestyle for a long time. I keep giving things up. It was easy to give up drugs. I've never used them. I don't drink anymore. I don't eat white flour or sugar. I removed meat from my diet, and I'm feeling good. (However) I'm only human. The crew will be eating cheeseburgers, and I can hear a demon whispering in my ear telling me one bite can't hurt. I get off on the purity thing, but I don't know if I can last."
