Ones To Watch: The Class of 2011By: Roughstock Staff Last Updated: January 4, 2011 3:01 PM Casey James Band (19 Recordins/BNA Records)What They’re Known For: Casey James Appeared on American Idol and showcased a southern rock sound influenced by highlight performances like Keith Urban’s “You’ll Think Of Me.” Where Casey’s From: Princeton, TX.Why You Should Care: American Idol has given mainstream country music plenty of artists, like Danny Gokey, Kellie Pickler, Kristy Lee Cook and Josh Gracin but never before has the program showcased an artist who decided to form a band around himself rather than go at it as a solo artist. Taking the “Daughtry Model,” Casey James and his new band look like they’re poised to break-out and perhaps be the best-known artist to come from an obvious down cycle of the television program. Their first single is due in late winter/early spring. – Matt Bjorke www.roughstock.com/blog/ones-to-watch-the-class-of-2011

Apparently he's going to be opening for Little Big Town and Sugarland on their tour. Not sure how many dates.

This guy has a terrible voice. I'll never forget the moment when Kara compared him to a goat or some farm animal. It's what I was screaming at the TV since day 1.

I think he's managed by 19 like most idols. His voice aside he's marketable unlike Lee and Crystal.

Casey James Collaborates with Songwriter Jaren JohnsonSongwriter Jaren Johnston revealed via twitter today that he recently co-wrote with Season 9 Idol Casey James. Casey’s debut album is set to be released on Sony Nashville later this year. BurnThisMedia has a video of Jaren’s Nashville rock band American Bang, which makes hard rock, Southern-style. Jaren is also the former drummer of the pop-punk band the Kicks. Lately Jaren has been writing with country-pop group Gloriana and also with “Before He Cheats” cowriter Chris Tompkins (who also cowrote “Keep On Drivin’” with Katharine Mcphee and “Rocks Instead Of Rice” with Kellie Pickler, plus Chris Young’s current Top 5 hit “Voices”). Some of the other artists Jaren has listed as recent collaborators are Rodney Clawson (who’s written hits for Jason Aldean, George Strait, Faith Hill, and Big & Rich), Bonnie Baker (who’s also writing with country acts like Katie Armiger and Brantley Gilbert), and Jennifer Hanson (who’s cowrote Bucky Covington’s debut single “A Different World”, the Wreckers’ biggest hit “Leave The Pieces,” and Billy Currington’s current single (“Let Me Down Easy”). Songwriter Aimee Mayo, who recently co-wrote with Casey tweeted, ” he’s a true artist–I’m obsessed with his guitar licks.” mjsbigblog.com/casey-james-collaborates-with-songwriter-jaren-johnson.htm

Hey, at least he knew how to stay on pitch right? I think Lee is still trying to figure that one out. But yeah, like someone already said he's a billion times more marketable than Lee and Crystal so it'll be interesting to see how well he does.

Does anybdy know which producer he's working with? I think that'll tell a lot on what kind of sound we can expect.

What's the prob with his band name? lol. There's tons of bands like that. The Dave Matthews Band, the Zack Brown Band, etc. It sounds better than DAUGHTRY or We Are The Fallen or something. *shrug*

As soon as I saw the band name I knew it was going to be country.

Patrick Davis tweeted:
Dallas has the most #1 country hits of any songwriter in 2010.
They're giving him some real big hitters to write with.

Looks like they've decided to drop the band idea. His site now directs you to caseyejames.com.
