I'm happy Christina is experiencing some success. RCA sent "Show Me How You Burlesque" for adds last week.

Pretty steep drop for a film that opened on a Wednesday, softening it's opening weekend take. If it were receiving good word of mouth it wouldn't have dropped almost 50%.
PS.. Canadian box office is ALWAYS reported with the US. When reporting the numbers any sensible box office writer should refer to it as its "North American box office total".

I suggest you stay there. You don't offer much in the way of analysis here. And I'll take CinemaScore over your pathetic biased opinions, thank you very much.

I explain why dropping 48% in its second weekend after a soft opening and the deflated 3 day weekend (due to it opening Wednesday) = mediocre at best. Cinemascore is a joke, but I wouldn't expect you to know that. Just because I'm not blowing smoke up Xtina's ass in the Xtina thread doesn't mean my analysis is wrong.

$27 million for a musical in the US isn't bad. The movie has given Christina something she lacked with Bionic- BUZZ! Everyone I know who has seen the movie has said nothing but postive things about it and also commented on Christina's vocals. If the next album is released within 2011 you can expect a hit.

I believe releasing SMHYB as a single is a bad choice , BP is a much better song.

It may not be doing as well in terms of box office drop offs and whatever other factors go in to figuring out what's a "hit" or not, but this movie has already far succeeded many people's expectations. Wasn't there some "statistical" site that said the movie would open with 9 million or something?
I doubt most people that have been gunning for Christina expected the movie to be doing as well as it is. When it's all said and done the movie will have grossed somewhere around $40 million domestically. You'd think with the media scrutiny coming from all angles this past year that this project would have been a complete disaster. Of course if the movie doesn't gross over $110 million (which is nearly impossible at this point) then people will still find a way to scream flop flop flop.
In the end she gave a good debut performance and entertained the hell out of a lot of people. And it's definitely doing just fine compared to other movie musicals anyways.

I haven't seen the movie yet- but how could this movie costs THAT much?!?! (Seems like it was shot on soundstages, again- I have not seen it yet.) Although, there are some online stories saying that there was behind-the-scenes conflict (not between Cher and Xtina or anybody in the cast). Maybe that drove up the price tag. That said, I'll catch the movie this week.

This seems like the type of movie that will make a bundle on home video sales and television rights for years to come. (The soundtrack ain't doing bad.) The international run should at least match the US run.

A couple warnings have been handed out. Attacking someone with the F word is not, and never has been, allowed at this board.

Wasn't there some "statistical" site that said the movie would open with 9 million or something? Yep, we were told that industry experts were predicting a $9 million opening. Also, I did a check of movies that opened Thanksgiving weekend in recent years -- a less than 50% drop-off does not appear to be steep. Everything I've heard indicates that word-of-mouth has been positive... Entertainment Weekly even gave it a bad review but has it on its must-see list. I think it will do well internationally. Looking forward to reading about the Tokyo premiere this week!

I believe that 9 million prediction also came with the prediction that its total lifetime domestic gross would only be 27 million. So, it has already hit 27 million and is still in the top 5 movies being watched. I know it will slow way down now, but it seems like it will definitely pass 27 million total by at least a few million.

It'll likely finish off with ~$40 million. Not an outright failure but not really a success (given its budget) either.

I am also hoping against hope that it gets some sort of nomination for something. I know any type of major nominations will be a hell no, but SOME show could throw it a bone and give it something for its music or musical numbers or costume design or something

The soundtrack is doing well and the DVD will likely follow suit whenever it's released. I'd say that, combined with it's international gross, should make a small net profit.

Ya'll are a mess. She doesn't need to sell anymore since she sold close to 50 mill albums. Someone in here's lying since they know post Thanksgiving drops are for the most part always big, this 1's normal, and less than the regular falls. It already passed expectations, doing better than OK, and will def make it's budget WW. Oh, and - iTunes US: #4 Amazon: #8
