Thing is, I don't know if there was a better choice. I'd have to listen to the album again to see if there was another I'd have picked, but just looking at the titles makes me think that there wasn't one. "A Man Don't Have To Die." That's the main one I think of as well. It's a powerful ballad and may not sound 'radio-friendly', but Brad could've had a hit with it. He is certainly a big enough star to turn a strong song like that into a hit and that's what we need--more of the superstars to take risks instead of rely on hooks and funky sounds. Some of that is fine but lately, as dcmfchart noted, many of the bigger name releases have been too formulaic. If not AMDHTD, they still could've scored some pretty big hits with either "One Of Those Lives" or "Love Her Like She's Leavin'" ft. Don Henley. Those were both good songs and I think wouldn't have had the high burn rate that "Camouflage" apparently had.

You're right that Brad might have been able to pull it off, but look at what happened with George Strait recently. Great song, not really radio friendly and his lowest chart single ever. After thinking more about it, I think something that contributed to the problem Brad has was the short time "Old Alabama" spent climbing the charts. Had that taken an average amount of time to climb (say another 2-3 months), "Remind Me" gets released in August or September and probably spends the same time climbing the charts. That would put a 4th single release due in February or March, which means they could probably release WOAT then. Just my thoughts.

^Maybe. I think George's problem lies more with his increasing age and lower sales totals, though. He's a huge star, that's for sure, but he doesn't sell newer albums and definitely not singles anymore.
I definitely agree that Brad had a tough time following up "Old Alabama" and "Remind Me", though. Both were big hits and climbed swiftly, and also were very hyped-up releases. Then, "Camouflage" as the 4th single, just couldn't fill the shoes of its predecessors and if I remember correctly, a lot of the listener research on the song seemed to show it had a high burn rate, which is likely why it never got put into high rotation across the board and couldn't crack the top 10. Plus, the chart just seems to get more and more competitive by the week. All of that comes together and can work against a song and I just think "Camouflage" was the wrong choice--definitely not a strong enough tune to overcome the things working against its release.

Considering that Whiskey Lullaby is one of Brad's biggest hits, I don't think A Man Don't Have to Die would've been risky at all (especially since his standing at country radio by now has only grown stronger). I firmly believe that single would've continued his Top 2 streak with no problem.

What Brad should have done was release Working On A Tan last summer. Then Remind Me, followed by Be the Lake.

Camouflage is the type of song I wanna hear in sportsman's warehouse. I'm glad they gave it a chance to be released though. You would've thought it was perfect for fall/winter (which im sure the BP camp thought the same) I do believe it's ridiculous that they ended the era so soon. So what if Camo didn't go all the way, it's Brad freakin' Paisley we are talking about here. To many he is the premier country act today! He could've easily gained back his "momentum" with another release from This Is Country Music.

It seems like he's been taking himself a bit of a creative hiatus to really focus on his next project, while we all remember how fast it seemed the This Is Country Music era was being rolled out right after his previous project (the same way ZBB continues to have their eras blend almost seamlessly together).

Sounds like Dierks is putting out an EP:
“@kyleryyan: @dierksbentley Why isn't "Cold Cans" on iTunes!?!?? That's one of my favorite songs of the summer!! #gottahaveit”-EP coming!

Saw that as well. A subsequent tweet indicated it would be titled the Country and Cold Cans EP.

From Huffington Post: NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A few years ago Dierks Bentley went hard against country music convention by releasing a rockin' bluegrass-roots album. He's decided to break the rules again. This time around, Bentley is releasing a new four-song EP called "Country & Cold Cans" even while his last album continues to chart hit singles. Turns out Bentley just wanted to have a little fun with his friends. "Sometimes that should be the driving force in your decisions, you know?" Bentley said. "It doesn't always have to be a business decision or well-thought-out plan. Just go out there, have fun, do it with some friends and put out some new tunes.""Country & Cold Cans" is out Aug. 21. The EP will be a digital-only release available on iTunes initially. Bentley will support the EP with a quick three-date tour Aug. 20-22 at the University of South Carolina, the University of Georgia and the University of Mississippi. Tickets go on sale Friday.Bentley released his last album "Home" earlier this year and "5-1-5-0," his 10th No. 1 country single as both artist and songwriter, reached the top of the charts this week. It's the third No. 1 from "Home." Normally, competing music would be considered a hindrance to the success of that album. But in this case, Bentley welcomes the interruption in business as usual. The music was written on the road, then recorded over a two-day period with his touring band and produced with Jaren Johnston, a member of The Cadillac Black – Bentley's opening band on tour this year. The music is meant to be loose and off the cuff. With songs like the title track, "Grab a Beer" and "Back Porch," the aim is clear. Bentley said he's targeting the same kind of kids curious about country music like he was as a teenager growing up in Arizona. "It's called `Country & Cold Cans,'" Bentley said with a laugh. "It's not called Beethoven." ----- So I get an EP AND a show for my birthday this year. Happy stan. ETA: Track list: 1. Cold Cans 2. Grab a Beer 3. Back Porch 4. Summer on Fire

Love that he recorded with his road band, some of my favorite guys/musicians out there. This sounds good. I'm pumped.

Scotty McCreery@ScottyMcCreery well its still 90 some degrees outside, but its Christmas in July here in the studio….. pic.twitter.com/X5repE5Z With this tweet Scotty is confirming that he will be releasing a Christmas project this Fall. We don't know if its an EP or a full CD yet. He did great covers of "Christmas Cookies" "Mary Did you know" "Noel" and "Holly Jolly Christmas" during his TV/touring rounds last season. This should be a nice present for his fans. Can't wait to hear it! tasteofcountry.com/scotty-mccreery-christmas-album/Scotty McCreery Working on Christmas Album By: Amy Sciarretto | 3 hours ago We may have been slightly misled when we reported that Scotty McCreery was working on a new studio album. After the ‘American Idol’ Season 10 winner and legit country star tweeted a photo of himself wearing a fuzzy red Santa hat in the studio, we’re more inclined to believe that it’s actually a Christmas album McCreery is preparing to spit out. “Well its still 90 some degrees outside, but its Christmas in July here in the studio….. ” the 18-year-old singer said to caption the picture, further inking the probability of a holiday release. Ace Showbiz reports that Nashville songwriter Nick Autry seemed to confirm that McCreery wasn’t just cutting a one-off holiday song on a studio mic, and that he is working on a full record. Autry’s tweet has since been deleted, since he may have let the Christmas cat out of the bag a bit too soon. However, Scotty’s generous share certainly confirms, straight from the horse’s mouth, that there is holiday music being created. Another source claims that McCreery is recording ‘All I Want Is You,’ which was written by none other than pop heartthrob Justin Bieber. It’s not been determined if that song will appear on McCreery’s reported holiday album, or if it’s just buzz. There are so many songs, traditional and otherwise, at his disposal for a Christmas album, or he could go another route and team up with some songwriters to provide brand new Christmas cheer. In any case, McCreery won’t be the only country crooner with a holiday album on the shelves in 2012, as Blake Shelton is also going to deck the halls when the cold air hits.

Jamey Johnson " Living For A Song: Hank Cochran Tribute" (Mercury Nashville) Release Date: September 18Jamey Johnson's Hank Cochran tribute album, due for release Sept. 18, is a worthy concept saluting the late country songwriter. Cochran wrote such classic country songs as "I Fall to Pieces," "A-11," "Don't Touch Me" and "Don't You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me". The album includes duets Johnson recorded with Alison Krauss, Merle Haggard, Leon Russell and Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Ray Price, Asleep at the Wheel, Elvis Costello, George Strait, Ronnie Dunn, Bobby Bare, Willie Nelson, Lee Ann Womack, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Vince Gill and with the trio of Kristofferson, Nelson and Haggard. JOSH TURNER TAKES IT OUT OF THE STUDIO ON HIS NEW LIVE ALBUM AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT CRACKER BARREL OLD COUNTRY STORE® IN AUGUST!!
Country troubadour Josh Turner will be traveling down the road for a second time with the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® exclusive music program when his new live album Josh Turner—Live Across America, debuts on August 27, 2012. The CD will be available exclusively at all Cracker Barrel® locations and online on crackerbarrel.com, Amazon.com, and on iTunes for $11.99. The album features live performances of Turner’s biggest hits including “Long Black Train,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” “Your Man,” as well as his never-before-released version of Waylon Jennings’ “America.” The performances were recorded at 12 different live shows from Lancaster, Pa. to Austin, Texas during Turner’s 2012 tour, which continues through December and is sponsored exclusively by Cracker Barrel. Turner previously collaborated with Cracker Barrel for his 2007 release, Josh Turner—Live at the Ryman.
“This is my second go-round with Cracker Barrel, who also sponsors my tour. We came up with the idea of taking a mobile studio out on the road and recording our show every night. And that’s what Live Across America is: the best renditions of songs from all over the country,” Turner says. “The fans will be able to hear recordings from their hometowns.” Cracker Barrel Marketing Manager Julie Craig shares, “Josh’s music genuinely resonates with many of our guests, and we are thrilled to join forces with him on a second Cracker Barrel album. Because the songs were recorded during actual performances, there’s a feeling of being in the audience and getting caught up in the energy and excitement of a live show.” Josh Turner—Live Across America track listing: 1) “All Over Me” - Live In Biloxi, MS (3:28) 2) “Firecracker” - Live In Lancaster, PA (3:47) 3) “Everything Is Fine” - Live In Knoxville, TN (3:52) 4) “So Not My Baby” - Live In Lake Charles, LA (3:35) 5) “Would You Go With Me” - Live In Plant City, FL (3:48) 6) “Long Black Train” - Live In Austin, TX (5:27) 7) “I Wouldn't Be A Man” - Live In Savannah, GA (3:39) 8) “Me And God” - Live In Key Largo, FL (3:17) 9) “Another Try” - Live In Atlanta, GA (3:51) 10) “Your Man” - Live in Kansas City, MO (3:38) 11) “America” - Live in Charlottesville, VA (3:33) 12) “Why Don't We Just Dance” - Live In Atlantic City, NJ (4:00) In celebration of this release, Cracker Barrel is offering a sweepstakes with entries being accepted now through September 14, 2012 (5:00 p.m. CT). Some info on LeAnn Rimes' "Spitfire" (thanks to kevin59 for compilation of info): She has tweeted in recent weeks the names of a few titles, including "Where I Stood", "A Waste Is A Terrible Thing To Mind", and "What Have I Done". At least one of the latter two has Alison Krauss singing harmony. On July 13, LeAnn tweeted they were almost done mixing and mastering the album. She has been working with Darrel Brown and he listed off some songwriters via his Tumblr page. Songwriters contributing to the album include David Baerwald, Dan Wilson, Liz Rose, Chris Stapleton, Rivers Rutherford, John Shanks, Dan Sheremet, Sarah Buxton, Gary Burr, and Buddy & Julie Miller. Brown also said the following on his page: "The songs written and performed are about her previous marriage with Dean / the divorce / her new marriage to Eddie / and everything and everyone in between… basically her life - everything she wishes for the future / what she wishes would have happened different / what she hopes for / what she can not change / what she regrets / what she hates / what and whom she loves / who can kiss her ass and who’s ass she isnt gonna kiss… LOL" Finally, LeAnn tweeted this today: Oh, and a piece of good news for the day....we have decided on a first single. Not sure when it will be out. I do know it was unanimous. Pretty amazing to hear the head of your label say there's at least 8 singles on this album. It's gonna be really hard to choose. Those are heavenly words to hear from a record label. I will say this, the first single I did have a hand in writing :) cannot wait to share everything with my sweet fans!

I can't wait to hear this Leann Rimes album. She was one of my first musical loves when I was a teenager in the 90s. I've missed the Leann I listened to back than and hope radio gives her another chance. Sadly just the female factor is against her now. In the 90s the female factor was the easy part.

Being her last record for Curb, that sentence is gonna come back to bite her.

Very pumped, between his and Jake Owen's...the should be two really quality EPs. BTw...more experienced people can answer. Is there a new trend toward seasonal mid-album EPs? Luke always does it, Jake Owen's sounds like it'll be every year, and now Dierks too.

So does that mean kix's album will still be out September 11th without a top ten hit?
