DONNA SUMMER - "To Paris With Love" Mon, 09 August 2010 20:05:00 -0600
The single and remixes. On her latest single "To Paris With Love", Donna brings to life the feelings, the passions, the love affair she has for the the City of Lights, the dazzling world capital of romance, culture, fashion and style. Audiences will be taken on a musical journey into the seductive sounds and flavors of that versatile and ever-evolving city, Paris. With this track, Donna has returned to the influences that have helped shape her career, which began in Europe and where she has always felt at home. "I wanted to give my fans something special and exciting for the summer, and I couldn’t think of a better theme than the glamour and allure of Paris," says Donna. "I want people to feel transported, whether they're listening on the dance floors of Ibiza or on their headphones at work. The idea is to let them escape into that magic world."
Her voice and lyrics echo the warm hazy feeling that can always be found in her music, so as she sings, "If you're looking for love, then you've got to go to Paris", you'll go right there with her.
"To Paris With Love" is co-written by Donna and Bruce Roberts, and is produced by Peter Stengaard. Remixers include: Wictor Mysliwiec and Michal Bojanowic (WAWA), Eddie Amador, Craig Christensen, Jonathan Mendelsohn, DJ DLG and Automatic Panic.

Some of the versions are available on iTunes now. (Thanks to leecappella at DJRicoMixshow for the heads up . Listen and preview here. -Wawa Radio Edit (3:50) -Wawa Extended (5:37) -Craig C's Radio Blaster Remix (4:11) -Craig C's Master Blaster (9:15) -Mendy Club Mix (7:37) -Mendy Radio Edit (4:00) -Original Version (5:23) -Original Version Radio Edit (3:42)
The original is kinda mellow and pretty. I like the Wawa and Craig C mixes the most. The latter is circuit-flavored. The Wawa one is in-between. It will take further listens for this song to grow on me.

I purchased the Craig blaster club mix on Itunes, the most big room sounding of the bunch. Yikes- her vocals have been filtered. She sounds like a gay man whispering instead of a supervisor vocalist belting out a tune in her usual style. The song's lyrics are redundant. The melody is off-putting. No remix, not even Tony Moran, can save this somber, boring tune because of the trite vocals and lyrics. Disappointing ;(

I love the song, but then again, I like most all of what Donna does. Her voice on this one is no different than some of her other falsetto singing songs (When Love Cries, Love To Love You Baby, I Got Your Love, etc.), only there's more of a Paris oriented vocal approach. My least favorite mixes are the Craig C. mixes. Love the Wawa mixes, the original mixes, and the Mendy mixes. There will ALWAYS be those who don't like something, but I LOVE it. Anything new by DoNNa SuMMer is awesome after all these years. She's still sounding great. She doesn't use her full voice to sound superior because I'm sure, to her, the song itself wasn't about that. Donna sings in character according to the kind of vocal delivery the song speaks to her. Yeah, I've seen a few Donna interviews. LOL.

I wish she would enlist other writers besides her husband....

After having listened to the song some more today, I have grown to like it a bit more. For me, it does pale in comparison to her other masterpieces. I felt similarly about some of her work during the last 10 to 12 years, particularly on "The Power Of One", "The Power Of Love/Love Power", "I Got Your Love" and "I'm A Fire." I did grow to appreciate them for what they were after a while. I wish she would enlist other writers besides her husband.... Actually, she's married to Bruce Sudano. However, she has worked with Bruce Roberts several times, including a duet back in the 90s called "Whenever There Is Love" (which had a brilliant remix by Junior Vasquez). I totally get what you mean though. Here's an interview they did together back in the day: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOBLq798aZUAnd them performing that song together:

My bad-I mixed up my bruces lol
I wish she would perform more of her recent hits sometimes although I know most people go to her concerts for the disco classics. Even when she performed at one might party( a circuit party) she did her old stuff instead of her newer stuff. Oh well

The song has a nice melody that sounds really at home in Mendy's mix. (mood-wise, i'm getting a Calderone sort of vibe). WaWa's is good too. I feel like Craig C's style is a bit too big for this track. Her vocals make me think that this song would have sounded better on Diana Ross. I don't mind Donna using different timbres of her voice, but I would have liked her to be belting front and center for her comeback single. (maybe this as #2 or #3).

I think Craig C's mix is too boring. Not liking it too much. At least, not now:) And I think Donna's voice sounds much better than Diana's would. Not as interesting, vocally, if Diana sang the song. Would be nice to hear, but I don't think I would like it as much. Diana's voice it too plain sounding to me.

Some of the additional mixes are out now. The Eddie Amador one is also in a circuit direction. I am liking that one in addition to the ones from before. mosuniverse.com/blogs/taj/2010/08/remix-treatment-donna-summer-to-paris-with-love-official-remixes/She didn't sing this tonight but mentioned it. She's doing a tour of mostly casinos. Bigger show than when I saw her in 2005. Had screens with graphics and three back up dancers even! She did four costume changes...I only posted pics of her last outfit because that's when she looked her best. Pics I took with my iPhone www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2192538&id=18804587&l=96c417e21e

She was a little bottom heavy in some of the outfits but her face looked great( even though she always wears sunglasses for the meet n greet) and her voice is perfect live! One of the highlights for me was she sang "smile" by Charlie Chaplin and she stepped away from the mic for one note and u could hear the real voice since I was about ten feet from her at that point and she has so much power!
