SWIFT AND BOYLE REVISIT YEAR-END CHART BATTLE After Duking It Out for 2009’s Best-Seller, They Go Head-to-Head on Next Week’s Chart
November 10, 2010
It’s age vs. youth for next week’s chart, as a debuting Susan Boyle will battle it out against Taylor Swift for #1 on next week’s HITS Album sales chart.
The duel is a repeat of last year, when Swift’s Fearless and Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream went to the wire as 2009’s top-selling album, with the country princess barely edging the hard-charging Britain’s Got Talent star at the finish line.
Look for Boyle’s sophomore Columbia album, The Gift, to keep on giving for the holidays, after debuting this week with 240-260k, which would put her neck-and-neck for the top spot alongside the third week for Swift’s Speak Now. Which is good news for Lou Reed, whose “Perfect Day” is the first single from the Scottish singer’s release.
Swift’s album should benefit from tonight’s CMA awards, while the Boyle album is a certain stocking-stuffer as we head into the teeth of the gifting season.
Universal Motown rap superstar Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager bows with a number between 180-220k, a lock for the #3 position.
Capitol/EMI’s debuting Now 36 is up next, with a total of 80-85k, while Island/IDJ’s Bon Jovi will score 70-75lk with their Greatest Hits—The Ultimate Collection package.
Valory/Big Machine veteran country star Reba McEntire is counting on All the Women I Am to buy between 60-65k of her new release.
Gnarls Barkley and former Goodie Mob moonlighting soul crooner Cee-Lo Green’s New Elektra album, The Lady Killer, rides the viral smash, “f**k You,” to between 30-35k, followed by ABR/EMI’s Alter Bridge (24-27k) and Get Money Gang/EMI’s Twista (19-22k).
The market was down 6% vs. last week, down 21% vs. same week last year and still down 13% year to date. You can now resume looking for Bret Favre’s penis text on your iPhone.

GREAT Numbers for Cudi! He could realistically double his 1st week sales from last album (104k) without a single radio hit. Oh, and what happened to all those people who said Susan was going to be a lock?

also, Cee-Lo is exactly what I predicted. Gnarls opened with the same amount a couple years ago.

Great first week sales for Kid Cudi. Hopefully Taylor Swift will keep the top spot.

SWIFT AND BOYLE REVISIT YEAR-END CHART BATTLE Look for Boyle’s sophomore Columbia album, The Gift, to keep on giving for the holidays, after debuting this week with 240-260k, which would put her neck-and-neck for the top spot alongside the third week for Swift’s Speak Now. Which is good news for Lou Reed, whose “Perfect Day” is the first single from the Scottish singer’s release. I can't believe Lou Reed let Susan Boyle ruin his classic. Oh well, more exposure for the original hopefully. These numbers really aren't bad for Boyle. Considering she is and probably always will be seen as somewhat or a novelty act, 250k would be outstanding for her second release, and since it's a Christmas album, we could see an increase somewhere along the line, or if nothing else, decent sales in future holiday seasons. I hope Taylor is able to hold on to #1 for another week, though ultimately it doesn't really matter. Also, Boyle's opening numbers are making it look like a possibility that Rihanna could score her first #1 album next week. Great numbers for Kudi. Wasn't expecting that at all. Sad numbers for Cee Lo. I bought his album today and it's really good, was thinking he'd be able to sell more. Oh well.

Expected for Boyle. People who thought she would repeat last years success were kidding themselves.
Fantastic hold for Swift though. And great numbers for Cudi.

This! Excellent week-to-week drop if the prediction numbers for Speak Now are true as well. Expected numbers for Boyle - the novelty has mostly worn-off.

Fantastic #'s for Susan. Josh Groban's Christmas album started off low & we all know how well that sold over the holiday's. The same will happen with Susan.

You all realize that Susan's album will increase come December, right? Like, she'll probably clear 1.5 mil by years end if she performs on all the holiday shows.

I just mean it's unrealistic to think she would regardless since it is a Christmas album being released early November. 250k for that is incredible.

By the power of Greyskull, please let Swift be number 1.
DNW Susan Boyle, sorry.

This should be the biggest opening for a Holiday album of the Soundscan era, correct?

Never expected Cudi to begin this strong. Where did he come from? Great for him though...

Awesome for Taylor, hopefully she can snatch Susan's wig :) And amazing for Cudi, he must have a big fanbase, no hit single, and he can push 200k, wow!

I would assume. 5/10 are Religious Christmas songs. Do You Hear What I Hear? The First Noel O Holy Night Away in a Manger O Come All Ye Faithful Plus, Aud Lang Syne is technically a Holiday track. The rest are all Religious in theme.

Kudi did have pretty good reviews...maybe that helped a bit. Taylor for number 1 please! :) Actually did you ever think, that she is doing those unreal numbers without a proper single too? "Mine" was not that big.

By the power of Greyskull, please let Swift be number 1. on the He-Man reference... But anyway, I think it'll go to Taylor. The CMA boost and the continued word-of-mouth will really help her out.

Also, that's a heavy decline for Reba as well. Her last two albums debuted at #1 with 100k and 300k first week.
