This is a fake article, folks.
JOSH GROBAN AND RASCAL FLATTS GO HEAD-TO-HEAD
November 17, 2010
It’s opera vs. country for next week’s chart, as Josh Groban will battle it out against Rascal Flatts for #1 on next week’s HITS Album sales chart.
Look for Groban's newest Warner Bros. album, Illuminations, to keep on giving for the holidays, after debuting this week with 350-400k, which would put him neck-and-neck for the top spot alongside the debut of Rascal Flatt's newest Big Machine album, Nothing Like This.
Rascal Flatts' album should benefit from scheduled late night tv performances, while Groban's album is a certain stocking-stuffer as we head into the teeth of the gifting season.
Susan Boyle continues to be a force this week. The Gift is expected to remain top 3 with a number between 220-250k.
As we head lower down the charts, another battle is heating up. Island/IDJ’s Rihanna is set to debut with 150-170k, which puts her in direct competition with Taylor Swift's fourth week of sales from Speak Now (Big Machine).
Atlantic’s Kid Rock is up next, with a total of 80-85k for Born Free, while both Capitol Nashville’s Keith Urban and Universal Motown’s Nelly are expected to debut within the 70-75k area.
The market was down 6% vs. last week, down 21% vs. same week last year and still down 13% year to date.
Loud is projected to sell less than Rated R with bigger hits? Rihanna is the definition of a single artist :o

Why did that other article says SuBo was neck and neck with Rihanna? lol
Some of Rihanna's albums have had decent legs, though. Aside from a commercial standpoint, Rihanna mostly is a singles act critically, too- she's had a few singles garner acclaim, but none of her albums have been players on year-end/all-time lists and such.
Hope the projections for Groban and Flatts hold- those are strong numbers.

No prediction por P!nk? so she's going to sell less than 70k.

I was hoping for a P!nk prediction. :( This bites. I hope she's Top 10, at least.

It does baffle me that Rihanna's album sales are so low, especially so close to Christmas. Like HolidayGuy said, if she keeps putting out the hits I'm sure the album will have decent legs, but I just would've thought she'd have built up a bigger fanbase by now.

I was hoping for a P!nk prediction. :( This bites. I hope she's Top 10, at least. I don't think it's so much a reflection on Pink but just a reflection on Greatest Hits albums in the US. They just don't sell anymore and there seems to be little incentive to get them unless you've been curious about an artist for a long time but have never bought anything by them. I quite like Pink and I'd probably buy a new studio album by her if I liked the sound of the songs, but I already own 3 of her albums so there seems to be little point in me getting a greatest hits compilation. It'll probably do much better internationally though. Also, with Taylor's sales dipping this far, it's looking less and less likely that she could get the #1 album of the year. I attribute it to her not really having a single out right now. "Mine" is dying and they took too long to release "Back to December."

It's just weird, Loud with 2 bigger hits is projected to sell less than Rated R with 1 moderate hit. How come?

I was just hoping for a Top 10 placing for this album. I'd hate if one of her albums didn't go Top 10. :(

There was a lot of buzz for Rated R. Rihanna went hit after hit after hit for over 3 years and then just stopped, she broke her silence after about 9-10 months off from radio and of course, the Chris Brown incident. This is just another Rihanna album with more singles that sound like hits. She'll probably have a good holiday season but I think this is where she'll be stuck as far as future opening weeks. GGGB, RR and Loud all had expectation of big things because of Umbrella, CB hype/breaking silence and now having 2 major hits. I think going forward, we know Rihanna will debut 150-200k.
The only troubling bit is that Ke$ha opened to 151k in January with only Tik Tok to her name. Though this is more in line w/ Katy's 190+ opening considering her 2 hits were way bigger than Rihanna's.

Interesting to say the least. I was thinking she would at least break 200k.

No way Rascal Flatts is gonna sell 350-400K. They seem to be so much less popular now after their last album, and after Lady A became the new "it" band in country music...I think their last album sold around 350K in its first week a year and a half ago... But if so, good for them. They must have a loyal following!

I don't think this is in the least bit accurate.
It's not posted on HDD since they don't do their estimations until late Wednesday afternoon and Rascal Flatts pushing almost 400k units? Riiiiiiight.
Try again.

Bon Jovi's compilation sold decently last week, with 88K. Not sure if the band did any promo appearances/performances or not.
Pink may end up doing 60K-65K or so.

It looks those predictions are fake? I found this article from ATRL and Ukmix. I just checked HDD and Billboard this article is nowhere to be found.

i'll be shocked if groban sells 400k. his new album is the worst from him, even more blah than his last non-christmas album Awake.

Who would take the time to post a phony article? Well, I guess there are some. lol
It did seem too early for HITS to post its projections.

I wouldn't believe this article one bit.
No source, no link, not even a link for it when googled.

Why do you ALWAYS say stuff like this when it comes to female artists who are not Madonna? Since when is critical acclaim pertinent to this thread? ???

I'm not surprised if this article contains accurate information. Josh and Rascal took years to build up those royal fans.
Where is Glee's prediction? I think it's fake haha

That's why, No Glee's Chirstmas album prediction. I don't think that they are going to sell less than 70k. Or maybe they can? Maybe this is fake article. Maybe an obsessive Rihanna hater created it?

Glee's Xmas album is going to do well. Even though this is not Xmas Season yet, this album has received good reviews and ratings, and Glee is bursting right now on the single market. It's family-friendly, which is an essential factor for any Holiday seller. IMO, Rihanna will do between 175k-200k still.
