^Babs' album didn't drop off- it's at 79. :) It's easy to overlook, though, given how the credit shows. Ah! There it is. Thanks. I was in a Best Buy last weekend (for new earbuds) and went by music section for kicks. I saw a Babs Xmas CD, but didn't recognize the cover. Can't believe they changed the cover of this iconic album! I looked at back and sure enough - it was the original album. I guess it's a good strategy because it made me pick it up and look....

^What kind of promo will Carole be doing? I'd like to see her album at least chart in the top 40; top 30 even better. She has the Rockefeller Center tree lighting on 11/30, apparently 2 Today Show appearances, according to her website. (One on 11/22, then one 12/20) She's also doing "The Talk" on 12/20 and "Jimmy Fallon" on 12/19. Also will be on "Morning Joe" a couple of times. She could have a shot Thanksgiving week to break into the top 40.

Ah- sounds promising- though, as we know, holiday sales usually peak a couple of weeks prior to Christmas, so impact may not be as high as stuff before that time. But, it's the classic sound of Carole King, so maybe the promo will help more than it would for others, given that she appeals to older consumers who buy CDs.
Still surprised she didn't write any new material for the album.

Jackie Evancho's O Holy Night EP has done 1m+.
Per Paul Grein's blog in December 2008, these are some other SoundScan totals through that time:
Amy Grant, Home For Christmas: 2.651 million Nat "King" Cole, The Christmas Song: 2.336 million Various Artists, A Very Special Christmas 2: 2.168 million Neil Diamond, The Christmas Album: 1.897 million Vince Gill, Let There Be Peace on Earth; 1.766 million Charlotte Church, Dream a Dream: 1.63 million
A couple of years ago, Billboard reported Christina Aguilera's My Kind of Christmas as 963,000 (which included the original and reissue). So, that one would be close.

Here's a look at the top-selling holiday albums in the U.S. dating to the advent of Nielsen Soundscan data in 1991: 1, "Miracles - the Holiday Album," Kenny G (7.23 million) 2, "Noel," Josh Groban (5.28 million) 3, "These Are Special Times," Celine Dion (5.17) 4, "Merry Christmas," Mariah Carey (5.12) 5, "Christmas in the Aire," Mannheim Steamroller (3.73) 6, "A Fresh Aire Christmas," Mannheim Steamroller (3.61) 7, "Christmas," Mannheim Steamroller (3.48) 8, "Now That's What I Call Christmas!," various artists (3.39) 9, "Christmas Eve and Other Stories," Trans-Siberian Orchestra (3.19) 10, "When My Heart Finds Christmas," Harry Connick, Jr. (3.08) Just outside the top 10 are Bocelli's "My Christmas" (2.59 million) and Boyle's "The Gift (1.9 million). This is from billboard.com a couple weks ago, it implies that Susan Boyle is at #12, so this kind of threw me a bit

I was confused too. The original cover was available at Wal-Mart as early as last year. The new one is in the $5 bin with other Holiday releases this year.

Holiday titles now completely fill the AC Golds top 40, so from this day on, I'll track the daily bullets (in spins) for the AC Golds, rather than the week-to-week trend. So, the number appearing in parentheses will be the daily gain. (For tracks that were not in the top 40 the prior day, there will not be a trend shown). For the AC Currents, I also will show the daily gains, for both spins and audience, in parentheses (unless the track did not appear in All Access' info the prior day).
Other formats' Gold charts may see some holiday titles appear after Thanksgiving, but then they usually drop down until 1-2 weeks before Christmas arrives.

Yeah, w she didn't write any songs for it either. We'll see how she does. It be nice to see it do OK. Not expecting big things from it. It's a bit shocking to me that Carole King would put out an album where she didn't write one song on it.

Mediabase did something odd with the charts- info shown on the links differs from what was posted earlier. Maybe I should just stick with the 7-day-rolling trend for future posts.

Rather than post the whole chart (which gets tedious to format on a daily basis), I'll just report the top five and any re-entries for the latest 7-day rolling period on the AC Golds chart.
Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" takes over No. 1 on AC Golds, with 1,564 spins; John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" is at No. 2, with 1,520. Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock" is at No. 3, with 1,506 spins, followed by Andy Williams' "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" with 1,499. Rounding out the top five is Nat "King" Cole's "The Christmas Song," with 1,490. One more track tops 1,400 spins- at No. 6, Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas," with 1,406. Re-entering at No. 40 is Perry Como's "Home For the Holidays," with 653 spins.
Friday's report should see robust gains, as all formats play a heckuva lot of holiday music on Thanksgiving day. Then, AC again rules holiday play, until 1-2 weeks leading up to Dec. 25. I'll post Golds charts for pop, Hot AC, etc. when there are sufficient holiday titles appearing- right now, it's just AC.
On the AC Currents chart, Michael Buble's rendition of "All I Want For Christmas is You" rises to No. 8, with 592 spins, and an audience of 6.674 million. Buble's "Holly Jolly Christmas" sits at No. 14, with 206 spins (2.373m audience), and Justin Bieber/Mariah Carey land at No. 16, with 171 spins (1.864m audience). Buble's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" appears at No. 17, with 170 spins (2.66m audience), and Bieber's "Mistletoe" ranks No. 21, with 101 spins (1.175m audience).
