Billboard Music Awards to Hit Las Vegas on May 20Event Will Air Live on ABC From the MGM Grand The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will air on ABC live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 20, in partnership with Chevrolet and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Like last year, which also aired on ABC, the live broadcast will be co-executive produced by Richard Beckman and Don Mischer. Billboard Music Awards Highlights Eminem and Justin Bieber duked it out at last year's show, each taking home six official awards during a star-studded telecast that resulted in a ratings win for ABC. Head to head, the BBMAs handily defeated the season finale of "Celebrity Apprentice among all key age groups. The telecast will include a performance by the winner of Billboard's annual Battle of the Bands gig. The awards will reflect Billboard's chart rankings based on key fan interactions with music, including album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring as well as streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, Youtube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound. The awards will be based on the reporting period of March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, including R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative. Last year's ceremony featured performances from the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Keith Urban, Taio Cruz, Cee Lo Green, Lady Antebellum, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, Far*East Movement, Pitbull, Mary J. Blige with Lil Wayne, OneRepublic, and a special performance by Neil Diamond. However, history will likely point to Beyonce's visually groundbreaking performance of "Run the World (Girls)" -- with its 100 back-up dancers and virtual Beyonce duplicates -- as the night's most enduring moment. The singer also received a pre-taped tribute from a wide slate of cultural figures including First Lady Michelle Obama, Barbra Streisand, Bono and Lady Gaga, who told the camera, "You represent the dream." Stay tuned for announcements on performers, presenters and more for the May 20 airing of the Billboard Music Awards. Link.

I'm guessing Adele will sweep all the album awards and top artist ones. I think Hot 100 song will be between Rolling in the Deep, Party Rock Anthem and We Found Love. I think Bruno or Lil Wayne will take Top Male Artist, Lil Wayne or Drake or Nicki for the rap categories, Foster The People or Maroon 5 for Top Duo/ Group, Rihanna or Adele or Katy for Top Female Artist. No idea for Top New Artist though.

Excited...hopefully Adele performs...just so her sales explode again :) Would be nice if Katy performed and it's not gonna happen, but it would be lovely if Bey performed "End of Time"

PRA has been ahead of RITD on the Hot 100 for most of those 3 extra months (and being in the Top 10 over Christmas). RITD only came back ahead after the Grammys.
I think We Found Love has a chance to be Top Hot 100 Song too.

However, history will likely point to Beyonce's visually groundbreaking performance of "Run the World (Girls)" -- with its 100 back-up dancers and virtual Beyonce duplicates -- as the night's most enduring moment. Lorella Cuccarini disagrees that it was new and groundbreaking.

In the end Bey got praised and improved on Lorella's work, and Billboard agrees :'(

I don't know why they did away with the December broadcast- that way it was in sync with Billboard's year-end issue. Perhaps to add some "mystery' to the proceedings. www.billboard.com/#/news/carrie-underwood-justin-bieber-more-to-perform-1006820352.story?utm_source=most_recentCarrie Underwood, Justin Bieber, More to Perform at Billboard Music Awardsby Jason Lipshutz | April 19, 2012 The 2012 Billboard Music Awards are shaping up to be a one-of-a-kind event: Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO and The Wanted are the first performers announced for the May 20 show, which will air from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for the second year in a row on ABC. Underwood's performance will come on the heels of her fourth full-length release, "Blown Away," which includes the new Top 10 single "Good Girl." The country superstar's latest album follows three best-selling efforts -- 2005's "Some Hearts," 2007's "Carnival Ride" and 2009's "Play On" -- that spawned smash singles like "Jesus, Take The Wheel," "Before He Cheats" and "Cowboy Casanova," and have sold a combined 12 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Meanwhile, Justin Bieber is also set to return with a hotly anticipated new album, "Believe" (due June 19), that has already been previewed by the irresistible lead single, "Boyfriend." The teen phenom topped the Billboard 200 chart twice last year, with his "Never Say Never: The Remixes" album and "Under The Mistletoe" holiday effort, after scoring his first No. 1 album with "My World 2.0" in 2010. Party masters LMFAO have shuffled to the top of the Hot 100 twice in the past year, with "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy And I Know It" -- as well as a performance alongside Madonna at the Bridgestone Super Bowl Halftime Show last February -- turning the electro-pop duo into trend-setting stars. And U.K. pop vocal group The Wanted have exploded to success in the U.S., as their hypnotizing single "Glad You Came" hitting the Top 5 of the Hot 100 and performances on "American Idol" and the "Today" show preceding their self-titled debut U.S. EP, out April 24. More announcements are on the way, with additional acts and presenters to be revealed in the coming weeks. Last year, the Billboard Music Awards returned in grand fashion at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, with show-stopping performances by Beyonce, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Lady Antebellum, the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna and Britney Spears, among others. Tickets for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com and MGMGrand.com. The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will be co-executive produced by Richard D. Beckman, CEO of Prometheus Global Media and Don Mischer Productions.

I remember everyone being shocked when Dynamite won Hot 100 Song last year. I still say it'll be PRA vs RITD vs WFL for this year.

This is all BB has said on nominess so far (that I'm aware of). I'd expect the full list out soon enough. Since the period that these awards covers is only a couple months shifted from the year end magazine (which runs to mid November) - expect there tp be a lot of overlap
