Ah...I wish more often than that but the point is....You don't have to rush things.
So when you look at that...

That will be three albums in a row 5 years apart.

Ouch. That's painful. I mean, with bands that go on hiatus or their members have multiple side-projects, then yeah, I can understand a 5 year gap, but 3 times in a row? I shake my head. That's just non-sense.

That's just non-sense. I really think they just do it to build anticipation, I mean, Salival was so called to describe "the fan's desire for a new album" ffs. ...Now that I think about, that isn't fair to them, because some of the delays are also due to label troubles.

If you are a new artist who hit it big with your first album, a year and 1/2 at most.
If you are an established artist, 2 years in between sets allows you work your singles and tour.
If you are an established artist who just released a major flop, disappear for 3 years.

Interesting point to add to the discussion - Sade's release history...
1984 - Diamond Life 1985 - Promise 1988 - Stronger Than Pride 1992 - Love Deluxe 2000 - Lovers Rock 2010 - Soldier of Love
An 8 and a 10 year gap between their last albums, yet still one of the most revered and successful groups out there.

Not that she was even gone during that time. She did have two massive collabos in LYL and RTT

In The Zone: November 18, 2003
Blackout: October 30, 2007
almost exactly 4 years.

She did re-release GGGB with two or three? singles, so it didn't really felt like a long time to me. However, Britney's ITZ and Blackout. Now that's forever! Even though she did release some music between those eras but they just sucked imo

...Now that I think about, that isn't fair to them, because some of the delays are also due to label troubles. Yeah, The main one from AEnima - Lateralus. Big time label dispute. Also MJK has a lot of side stuff going on now as well. Puscifer, His Wine. A Perfect Circle is a band and he did that before Lateralus, so i really don't consider that side stuff. But from 10,000 Days - Now he added Puscifer and Wine. As of right now all the members are working on the album. Danny, Justin, and Adam. Maynard will come in when they are done and write the lyrics.

I think for a break-out artist with a huge album with multiple singles, a year is good, but during that year, nothing should be released, not even collaborations. It annoys me when there's a re-release of the album, or a short extended play, which can drag out the era. And if that's the case, they should still wait a full year after the last single on their extended play or re-release.

Whenever an artist feels the album is good enough to be released. There shouldn't be a rule on this IMO. Some artists release simultaneous albums that are incredible and others and take extended breaks and release something like... uh, Chinese Democracy.
