The totally rocked the Rock In Rio performance... I wanted to stay away from the previous live performances of the new songs, but I couldn't turn them off yesterday haha and I'm glad I didn't, the new songs are amazing! Us Against the World is beautiful, and Charlie Brown is definitely their next worldwide hit. Hurts Like Heaven was nice too. I'm definitely excited for this project

Is it just me, or they've become more US based than UK based? they've been declining in album sales in UK and debut figures for singles aren't impressive. In the US however, both singles debuted high.

Is it just me, or they've become more US based than UK based? they've been declining in album sales in UK and debut figures for singles aren't impressive. In the US however, both singles debuted high. "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" peaked at #6 in the UK compared to #14 on the Hot 100. "Paradise" peaked at #16 in the US, but hasn't been chart eligable in the UK so that's not really comparable. Their album sales have declined in both countries but remained fairly consistent. In the UK they went 7x platinum, 7x platinum, 8x platinum and 4x platinum. In the US they went 2x platinum, 4x platinum, 3x platinum and 2x platinum. In the UK they've always sold comparatively more and peaked with X&Y, in the US they've always sold comparatively less and peaked earlier, with A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Their sales are impressive in both countries and there's really no argument in what you're saying at all.

Baring in mind I've always been a big fan and was worried about this album for a number of reasons, I'm pleased to report that "Paradise" is my favourite Coldplay song to date. It is absolutely incredible.

Why hasn't this leaked yet?! I need to know if I want to buy it! I love Paradise, and I like Major Minus and Every Teardrop (tho I'm sick of that one) so I'm really anxious to hear the rest.

This album will be so epic. I can't wait until opening week. Plus I'm gonna jump on concert tickets ASAP when they're available.
I just hope the other tracks are better than the singles, which are good for me but not up to Coldplay standards. Of course, this is all relative since I know many people who like these songs better.
OCTOBER 24th!!!

I don't see the song being the smash people seem to think it would be. The song itself is too Alternative for pop radio, and Rihanna pretty much kills its chances at being a major Alternative hit.

Alternative sometimes makes interesting choices, rather than the usual RHCP, Foo Fighters, etc. Rihanna being in this doesn't necessarily make it a non-contender for Alternative radio. Pop radio also has some curveballs as well once in a while. Rihanna has been pop's darling for a while and Coldplay seems moderate success on Pop once in a while so again, don't count it out.

It has, I'm listening to it right now. It's pretty good on first listen, the latter half of the album is better than the first IMO.

It all sounds a bit formless and void on first listen. I can't get over Paradise though. It just gets better every time I listen to it. Usually when I listen to a new album for the first time I skip the singles, but when it came on I couldn't not listen to it.

I think the album has an adventurous sound for them (based on what I know of their catalog). The production is a bit too heavy and it drowns the vocals to the back a lot, especially in the choruses (with the exception of 'Us Against The World' and 'Up In Flames' which are more scaled back) 'Hurts Like Heaven' is a cool song and interesting, by far the catchiest on the record.

The more I listen to the album the more M83 influence I am seeing that many seem to not mention. It's a decent album, but it doesn't "flow" like the others do. As an example, you listen to a song and it sounds like the album it is on. They obviously have been enjoying listening to Arcade Fire too since the last album. It's good, I just don't consider it as strong as their others. Nothing really sticks out. "Hurts Like Heaven" has a #35 peak written all over it. It sounds almost TOO Arcade Fire.

I agree with some of the comments regarding the production. That said, I think where this album will really succeed is in a live setting. If the master plan was not necessarily to conquer the music charts but rather sinew the reputation of their live show, then mission accomplished. I have no doubt half the album will stand the tests of time as fan favorites in their setlists from here on out (It is also, for that reason, why I admit I was slightly disappointed with the studio versions of "Charlie Brown" and "Us Against The World"). Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

I thought the album was amazing. It flows nicely, and I didn't seem to mind the production at all, they know when to slow it down and when to go heavy. All tracks are good, didn't mind any. Rihanna's duet did fit in quite well, which at first I was sort of concerned about it. Princess of China will probably dominate the charts, it's different enough to attract attention but not so much that people don't like it. Great album, definitely one of their best.

Princess of China will probably dominate the charts, it's different enough to attract attention but not so much that people don't like it. Great album, definitely one of their best. I agree that there's no bad songs here, and I too really don't mind the production choices. After all, they were originally intending to produce an album that served as the soundtrack to a scrapped animated feature film about a space-age romance...........and even then they have insisted this is a conceptual album about two lovers, and the highs, lows and eventual triumph of their relationship in a dystopian world. The more stripped-down moments stand out in allowing Martin to deliver his emotive vocals, and the more peppy moments just have a nice happy, sunny whimsicality grazing the synths. I'd say my main criticism with the album is that Martin's vocals are drowned out a bit too much on the more upbeat numbers in particular, so fail to achieve emotional liftoff. It may be partially my fault I feel this way, because I heard live versions of "Charlie Brown" and "Hurts Like Heaven" before I heard the studio versions of both tracks today............and the studio versions fail to encapsulate the energy and emotional cadence of the live setting. They feel just slightly flat. Still, it's a minor complaint, as the production is still soaring. * Not their best album to date, but still definitely a winner. Coldplay have yet to disappoint me album-wise (they have disappointed me every once in a while with single releases, namely "In My Place" and "The Hardest Part", which were both lyrically tragic, and I think every track on "Mylo Xyloto" is superior to those two singles, with "Don't Let It Break Your Heart" being the most forgettable of the bunch and "Up In Flames" being the best). Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

This is pretty solid, I prefer the first half to the second half. With that said, I still prefer their previous effort. Viva la Vida is very dear to heart.
