Okay. I think that I'm gonna try to not listen to anymore of the live songs. I want to be surprised and experience the record as a whole. Maybe I'll be strong enough.

Ooh, so glad to hear the album title as that is my favorite of all the new songs he has played. I really loved Queen of California too.

So a couple other people that were there didn't hear the October thing. But one of them said he did say something about the fall? Anyways... Here's "Love is a Verb": LINK Love is a verb, it ain't a thing It's not something you own It's not something you scream When you show me love, I don't need your words Yeah, love ain't a thing, love is a verb Love ain't a thing, love is a verb Love ain't a crutch, it ain't an excuse No, you can't get through love On just a pile of IOU's Love ain't a drug, despite what you've heard Love ain't a thing, love is a verb Love ain't a thing, love is a verb So you gotta show, show, show me Show, show, show me Show, show, show me That love is a verb Yeah you gotta show, show, show me Show, show, show me Show, show, show me That love is a verb Love ain't a thing, love is a verb

Chuck Leavell (keyboardist on John's new album) talked a little about the album HERE. He says that John's putting the finishing touches on the album right now and it should be out in October. He also says we "might" see a single release before then but I'm not sure he really knows what he's talking about there. Because of course there's going to be a single released before the album. I would guess it would be out sometime in August? He also said that John will be back touring in October! (Please come to Baton Rouge. Everyone always just goes to New Orleans. )

So glad that the October release is still happening. I believe that "Who Says" was released in October, and then the album on 11/17. So maybe single in September?

The latest rumblings from his fan site are that this is looking to be delayed till early 2012. There is still a glimmer of hope that it could follow the Battle Studies trajectory though.

Single announced around the end of September, released middle of October, album released middle of November. I thought that since this one was called Born and Raised that he'd shoot for a day around his birthday.

I'm pretty sure it will be. John has expressed distaste for Battle Studies as a whole, and he's open about it being less good than his previous works. He said not too long after the album came out that "the next one is for you." I'm taking that to mean that he's gonna go back to the Continuum type of sound, or the next progression of it.

Very pleased to hear that...I think Battle Studies may be my least favorite of his albums, with Continuum being the clear favorite.

Battle Studies had some amazing records (i.e. Heartbreak Warfare) but, overall, the music was very impermanent.

Heartbreak Warfare is amazing. My favorite on the Battle Studies album, for sure. I'm really hoping we get some concrete news about this project soon. John's my favorite artist and I'm dying for some new material. And a tour!!!

"Half of My Heart," "Assassin," "Heartbreak Warfare," "Edge of Desire," and "Friends, Lovers, or Nothing" were the best from the last album. It wasn't a bad album. It just didn't have the replay value that his others did.

2012 it is. D: Hi everyone, After several months of going week to week monitoring and hoping to correct the condition, I am forced to cancel my upcoming singing engagements due to something next to my vocal cords called a granuloma. I’m bummed to have to bow out of both the iheartradio Music Festival in Las Vegas and an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles. I know there were people depending on me to be there and I’m sorry that I can’t be on those stages. ‘Born and Raised’ is complete as far as music recording, song selection, and in some cases mixing, but because of this condition I couldn’t finish singing on several of the tracks. This means the record will be released next year instead of this fall or winter. This is a temporary setback, though I’m not sure how long or short a period of time it will be. I’ve got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear. Until then I’ll be spending time writing and composing more music and kicking an empty soup can around the West Village. I’m looking forward to seeing you again soon. Until then take good care. That explains a lot. I didn't notice, but people said he sounded like he had a cold or something in that interview with Don Was. And it seemed like a pretty sure thing that the album would be out by the end of the year and he would start touring by the end of Fall. But his management started denying all of that recently on twitter. It's a shame that he couldn't do the Iheartradio fest. It turned into a pretty big thing. Would've been a great place to perform some of the new music (maybe even a first single) in front of a big crowd after being out of the spotlight so long. But I like knowing that the album is THIS close to being done. He said the tracklisting's already set. I think "Born and Raised" is the only confirmed song so far? But "A Face to Call Home" seems like a sure thing too, since he's performed it a lot and Mick management recently tweeted a line from it. I think this is the complete list of new songs he's performed that may be on the new album (since last Dec). Who knows how many of them actually made it. A few of them he only performed once, several months ago. But there's live video/audio of all of them on youtube if you want to hear it (and can ignore the screaming, drunk people)... Born and Raised A Face to Call Home Something Like Olivia Queen of California Love is a Verb Shadow Days Age of Worry Portable Heart A Break in the Clouds Speak For Me -or- Something I Can Be Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey It Takes a Fool

I will ALWAYS love Battle Studies for giving me Johnallah's 2nd best song, "Edge of Desire". I am pretty sad about the album being delayed, since I need me some new JM music in my life these days. The other day, "Split Screen Sadness" came on my iPod randomly. Great song.

I thought new posts in this thread meant we had news. Darn. lol +1 to the awesomeness that is "Split Screen Sadness." Possibly my favorite off of Heavier Things.

I think that my favorite from Heavier Things is "Something's Missing" or "Bigger Than My Body." I'm not counting on any news until the new year.

John Mayer posted on Tumblr that his granumola is all squared away, and he is able to sing again. A tour has been announced, with a few dates in March and April. His management has said to expect the album "when it gets warmer." April sounds like a decent date.

John is playing the South by Southwest music festival in Austin in March...his first time there since 2000! My buddy just moved back to Austin after living overseas for a while and invited me down. He said it's one of the most happening scenes he has ever been a part of. I just gotta buy my tickets. A week-long music festival is one of the best ways to spend my vacation time and a bonus is getting to see JM live finally!

They have a film festival the week before and than afterwards it's just music 24/7 They have free concerts and than every night somebody is showcasing. It gets to the point where there are about 5-6 great concerts going on at the same time at different venues. Also the atmosphere is great too. Going to Lady Bird Lake where they have free concerts for 3 nights and enjoying the herb . The G.O.O.D. Family showcase was one of the best things I went to last year. Also N.E.R.D. plays there damn near every year at Stubbs (gotta check that out too).
