La Roux writing second album with 'established' indie bandElly Jackson reveals all about her new album plans La Roux's Elly Jackson has revealed that she is writing her new album with an "established" indie band. Jackson, speaking in the new issue of NME, declined to name the band, although it is rumoured to be White Lies. White Lies' spokesperson could not confirm or deny whether they were involved yet. Speaking of the hook-up, Jackson said: "I've been writing with some friends from another band, but I wont say who they are." She added that the band are "established, but not like Kings Of Leon-established or anything…" Meanwhile, Jackson also said she is feeling the pressure to write an album that will be as successful as her band's 2009 debut. "I know I'm not going to stop writing until we've got songs that can compete on the same level as 'In For The Kill' and 'Bulletproof'," she explained. www.nme.com/news/la-roux/54547-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Their debut is one of my favourite albums of the last few years, so I'm obviously hyped.

I'm pretty excited for this . Bulletproof, Tigerlily, In For The Kill, Colourless Colour and As If By Magic were among my favourites on their debut! I wish them the best of luck with this new album :).

Tropical Chancer is out:
It's probably my favorite out of everything we've heard thus far.

Great artwork but sucks that it's only 9 songs. Whatever. Coldplay is one of the best things released this year and that was also a short one. Anyway, I wasn't expected them to be but La Roux was easily one of my highlights from Governor's Ball the other weekend so I will definitely be purchasing this album.

I've not really liked any of the new material so far. It's very different from their debut. :(

It's a shame this thread isn't getting more attention, the album is brilliant - in terms of female pop releases over the past year, it's definitely one of the better ones!

Silent Partner is chill inducing; it's very reminiscent of early Madonna namely "Burning Up." I also really like "Kiss and Not Tell", "Sexotheque", "Tropical Chancer" and "Uptight Downtown". I'm actually planning on seeing her live; it's only $40. Also, the album seems to be getting even more critical praise than her debut as it currently sits at an 80 on Metacritic. For reference, their debut had a 76.

I wasn't the biggest fan of their (I guess "her" now) first album, it had some killer tracks, but I found her vocals too offputting at times. This album is sharp as hell. Really good stuff.

Listening to the album now. Not sure if this tops the debut for me but I think the album is pretty solid. "Uptight Downtown", "Tropical Chancer" & "Silent Partner" are my faves.

I would actually probably put it on par with her debut. They are both completely different body of works yet equally captivating.

Not included in the projections for next week's debuts, which means it may debut with less than 10k.
La Roux debuted at #187 with 3k (209k sold to date).

Listening now. Have somewhat high expectations since I liked their debut so very much and was basically a La Roux stan that era.
...
Overall I'm not a fan tbh.
Lacks the melodic genius of their debut and the killer hooks. Has some interesting production but that's about it.

I really don't understand why it wasn't the lead single. I would think it would be a big hit in the UK and a lot of Europe. At any rate they need to do something before this era fades into oblivion before it ever really started...

I must have posted about Sexotheque in another thread but yeah, easily the best La Roux song ever and one of my favorite songs of the year. I am legit obsessed. The only thing that comes close to that song on the album is Uptight Downtown.

Ya Sexotheque really is a instant, obvious smash. I hope they find a way to turn this era around, the album is miles better than their debut and I loved that album too. Regardless of how much this has flopped Elly Jackson has established herself as an amazing artist with this album.

I like this album soooo much more than their debut. I'm not here for "The Feeling," thankfully I just pretend it doesn't exist since it's tacked on the end. And I agree "Sexotheque" is an obvious single, so is "Kiss And Not Tell."
I can't see her turning this around though. The promo has been a MESS.

I think Sexotheque is instant enough though that it really just needs an official release and it could still be a hit with next to no promo/effort.
