Yaya is a great actress and she actually embodies Whitney in those stills, so that's already two steps up from the Aaliyah disaster. And the trailer actually looked...kinda good? For a TV movie at the very least.
I think it helps that they have an actual love story to center the film around and not a 30 year old preying on a high school sophomore.

Has this video ever been posted? At 3:44, it shows Whitney at Kim Burrell's church a few months before she died. From what Kim is saying, it seems like she was on such a good track. :(

By the way, what happened to the re-issue of her second album? It was mentioned nearly 3 years ago but no news since then... A re-issue could surely push it to the Diamond certification level.

Even if it were eligible, it's not likely that the label would have it re-certified.
I'm also not getting big Whitney vibes, but I guess we should wait to see how the movie plays out.

The move is getting great buzz, HolidayGuy, so maybe you just aren't paying enough attention.

Well...I guess I'll take soap opera level of overracting from YoYo over non-acting from whatever that chick's name was who played Aaliyah but still...mess.

That's all I needed to see! Let her rest in peace. The family has every right to be furious!

I see Angela is focusing a lot on the drug use. Making it seem like every time something wrong happened in Whitney's life she'd run in the other room and do lines of coke. I understand that the drugs will always be part of Whitney's life and always be discussed & pointed out, but I really hope that doesn't consume most of this movie.

Here's a review from a fan:
I Will Always Love You..... that's truly how I feel after watching this movie. I feel that Lifetime has truly regained itself from that last tragedy titled, "Aaliyah". Whitney, a legendary icon that truly does deserve a movie should not have been constrained to the small screen. And if it did ever hit the big screen, I would like to see someone like Angela Bassett direct it. She did her thang.
The movie does not cover Whitney's whole life nor her career, it mainly focuses on her relationship with Bobby Brown. I know what your thinking, MEDIA ATTENTION huh? Well I can say that this was actually tastefully done. It hits on how, although Bobby did do drugs, his main addiction was alcohol. It states the fact that Whitney was already snorting before Bobby, and actually kind of introduced him to it. She was just keeping it to herself. The gift and the curse of it all is that Whitney did not write her own music, and that is one major thing that attracted her to Bobby Brown. Also with that being said, we DO actually get to hear familiar music done by Whitney, although they didn't use her voice, Deborah Cox did an amazing job on the vocals. Yeah I know, ITS NOT WHITNEY, but Whitney is "THE VOICE" so who can actually do what Whitney could do? The movie is only about an hour and a half so they didn't hit EVERY milestone, which is why I would LOVE to see Whitney get a silver screen production. It covers her meeting Bobby, his jealousy of her career, their marriage, her miscarriage on The Bodyguard, her relationship with Clive Davis (Who was a cast correctly), Bobbi Kristina's birth, Bobby's cheating, Bobby's secret confession about Whitney that hit tabloid covers.
One thing I did appreciate is the fact that there wasn't a storyline built on the rumors of her lesbian acts. Her wedding dress was a beautiful recreation. Although I'm not sure they got Whitney's wigs correct with how she wore them at certain parts of her life, they weren't too far off from what Whitney wore in her life. Overall I give this movie a 4 out of 5, and I will definitely be tuning in when it comes on TV, January 17, 2015 8/7c.

That's what I found ridiculous in that clip. She finds out that Bobby got his ex pregnant... and immediately runs upstairs to do coke? Other than that, frankly, this doesn't look as shitty as I feared it was going to be and I like YaYa's acting. At least she can emote, her facial expressions are on point and I did see some of Whitney there. I'll be watching this!! That said, Whitney deserves a biopic on the silver screen with a solid budget and cast, a movie about her entire life and not solely focused on her relationship with Bobby. I hope in the future there will be one.

I'm impressed so far from the clips. Can't wait to see it. Well everybody should know drugs will play a big part of the story, Whitney herself said she was doing it basically everyday in the mid 90s to Oprah so shouldn't be any shocks.

Happy Holidays everyone!
Starting off this Christmas Eve with some of my favorite Whitney Christmas songs
Oh how I wish she recorded a full Christmas album in the early/mid 90s.

On One Wish, of the then-new recordings, I do like her rendition of "O Holy Night."

Whitney's rendition of "Do You Hear What I Hear" is quite possibly my favorite Christmas song of all-time, it's simply stunning showcase of vocal masterclass.
This used to captivate me when I was young, and it never lost the magic.
RIP Whitney <3

Yaya definitely studied Whitney's mannerisms LOL.
I agree about the song in that clip though, it sounds like a bad karoake demo version that would be on iTunes for 67 cents. Deborah's check must have been next to nothing for her to give such a half ass job.

There's another clip of Yaya doing "I Will Always Love You" and OMG... did she even watch any Whitney live performances on YouTube in preparation for the role?! Her mannerisms didn't resemble Whitney's when performing live at all; in fact, I think an avid Whitney fan would've done a better job. You're supposed to transform into the character you're portraying, and she didn't. I think I spoke too soon about her not sucking at acting. I wasn't feeling Deborah Cox vocals either; Whitney didn't sing IWALY that way in the early 90's (that's when I think that performance in the clip was placed - chronologically speaking). The official premiere of the movie was the other day, and people like Magic Johnson and David Foster attended. Angela said that she showed Dionne the film, who liked it apparently.

Lifetime will be airing, what I'm guessing is, an abridged version of the live performances DVD. This will air after the movie and interview.

With all due respect, the drug use consumed most of her LIFE. I don't see why they should shy away from it. I obviously don't expect them to completely shy away from it, but it doesn't need to be in every other scene either. According to many reviews of this movie, Angela and the writers are actually making Bobby out to be the victim. Making it seem like he tried to stop her from doing drugs and making it seem like she introduced him to it. The hell?! The writers obviously talked to Bobby behind the scenes to get his take on their marriage to incorporate into the movie, this isn't fair at all. Not when Whitney isn't here to tell her side and defend herself. What about the fact that Bobby dropped a bag of coke out of his pocket while on stage before he even got with Whitney? There's a video of it. Why wouldn't Angela and the writers include that? Why are they making Bobby out to be the victim here? Not to mention that now he's doing some tell-all interview about their marriage immediately after the movie is over. One of the questions is does he think Whitney ever cheated on him? Give me a f***ing break. Don't try to flip his cheating and abusive ways towards Whitney around to make him end up looking like the good guy. Don't you f***ing dare. Not when she's not here to defend herself. Bastards.

Pat Houston releases a statement on the movie to Nightline ABC:
“The family and the Estate are very disappointed that Angela Bassett never personally reached out to an immediate family member about this project … Since no one from immediate family was contacted, nor have seen the film, we cannot help but question the veracity of a story about Whitney and Bobby's personal relationship,” Pat Houston, president of The Whitney Houston Estate, said in a statement to “Nightline.” “Her life story - even a portion - should be dominated by people who value the merit of her life, not by a group that chose to present the weakest cycle of her life. Unfortunately, there's nothing inspiring, liberating or uplifting about this project.”

I'm tentatively interested in seeing this, because of the talent associated with it. Also, her drug use was at its height during the Bodyguard era iirc, which is when the film takes place. She said on...Oprah (I believe) that she was using almost every day during that period of her life so it wouldn't make sense for them to shy away from that during this film.
I hope that maybe in another 7-10 years, to coincide with the 10th/15th anniversary of her passing, something is able to come together for a full length feature film on her entire life. I could really see Whitney's biopic being What's Love Got To Do With It icon status.
