This is just too much. Three of the most talented artists ever and the ones I love the most, only one is left. Whitney and Michael Jackson are gone, I hope Mariah has more lives in her left.

So I'm watching a lot of her performances from the last 3 years...why were people saying her voice was gone? Watching footage from her tour (which I recall was being trashed by the public) and her voice still packed a lot of power and she was extending notes and sounding really good.
Was she getting vocal training again or something? I remember the UK X Factor performance being very shaky and talk-singy but now it looks like that was just a one-off thing.

The service was beautiful. It was intimate, warm and just lovely. We gotta thank Whitney's family for allowing the cameras in and letting the fans and the public witness it. I can't thank Whitney's family enough for letting the fans see it all, to make us feel part of it. Whitney loved and appreciate her fans so much, especially during her hard times she saw how loyal we were to her, and she always acknowledged that, she would want us to see this.

I'm 46, and unfortunately I was not surprised when I first heard the news. But Whitney's absence among us exacerbates something that has become incredibly apparent and even more distressing to me: We are losing the best and brightest from the 1980s, too soon and/or too young, and even some of the best from the 1990s are not among us. So many of the best and brightest from the 1950s were still among us in 1990 and even 1999, for us to pay tribute while they are/were still alive (with shows like Doo-Wop 50/51). I have a hard time saying the same for those who became stars, superstars, legends or even supreme legends in the 1980s, because too many of them have fallen, including Teena Marie and Luther Vandross, among the legends who made it big in the 1980s. David Peaston, who tore up the Apollo every week he appeared on Amateur Night, and followed that with 3 albums (one of which produced 3 top-20 R&B hits, one of which hit #2), just recently passed. And for those hip-hop aficionados, Keith Wiggins, aka 'Cowboy' of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, never made it to the year 1990. The roster of stars from the 1980s not making it to 2010 or barely making it that far is getting long, and way too full of certified icons, many of whom never made it to 50, some of whom never made 40, which is a testimony to how the industry treats its performers. I don't know how many rockers are on such a list as this (if you have names, please add them), but I would not be surprised if today's absence of 1980s legends in all of pop looks like the list of pro wrestlers who died before they reached 50 or 60.

One more thing: The vulture mentality, as demonstrated by the National Enquirer (which had been lying in wait for 13 years for this, as recently as last week), has gone from disgusting to absolutely ruthless, as demonstrated by this week's front page! I imagine millions will be beyond furious by what they published (as if to gloat), and will agree with me when I say that they have completely outlived their relevance and should be deprived of their sponsors and driven out of business, along with their clones. Maybe someone brave enough, and with big bucks and doesn't mind losing the money so long as he or she can dismantle a franchise gone way out of control, should just buy up the publishing company and close it down...
...Unless, of course, they are sued to complete oblivion, which I think may very well be the case, bar none.

Clive's words touched me the most, about her being determined to get in shape and regain her "high notes"...
I broke down at that, I just wish, with all my heart that she had the chance to live up to this. I know she would have. She was ready!
I will always love you, Whitney...
I will spread your music everywhere I go, you're a class act and a true prodigy. Gone too soon but NEVER forgotten.

Did you see those recordings of Whitney singing at Bobby Brown's mother's funeral last year in a church? Whitney sounded great.

All those "what ifs" come up... but I know Luther, MJ, Amy, Etta, Whitney, etc are all rocking the chorus up in Heaven like never before!

Question....I've been waching all the special. 20\20, BET special, vh1 and e! SPECIALS. ONE THING all of them have in common is NO mentions of the "I'm your babe tonite" album\era. Every show goes from the Whitney album, straight into the star spangled banner\bodyguard era. Why? IYBT was a huge hit and huge album right??

You mustn't have watched every special. "I'm Your Baby Tonight" is mentioned but never more than the 2 #1 hits and other than being the album known as "more R&B".

Watched this for the first time today. I didn't realize just how better she seemed. Completely fluid, level headed, and looked so healthy
22:40 is too chilling

I completely lost it during that funeral. Wept like a baby. I feel like I lost part of my family, since Whitney was so ingrained in the fabric of my childhood. I will never forget the way her voice touched me as a child. Watching the funeral reminded me of my grandmother's funeral and I was just overcome with emotion, especially since a love for Whitney's voice is something we shared. I even felt bad for Ray J when I saw his reaction when the casket was being carried out. This is just such a senseless tragedy.

Clive's words touched me the most, about her being determined to get in shape and regain her "high notes"... I broke down at that, I just wish, with all my heart that she had the chance to live up to this. She did. Youtube some of her later dates of the "Nothing But Love" tour, she was belting like she used to and it seemed like her voice had lost the coarse-edge that it had gotten. So I'm watching a lot of her performances from the last 3 years...why were people saying her voice was gone? Watching footage from her tour (which I recall was being trashed by the public) and her voice still packed a lot of power and she was extending notes and sounding really good. Did you see those recordings of Whitney singing at Bobby Brown's mother's funeral last year in a church? Whitney sounded great. nope! :o *runs to YT* Btw, I haven't been able to get "Greatest Love Of All" out of my head. Always knew it from when I was younger but I didn't actually understand what it was about until this year. Great message.

I just read that the contract with Whitney's previous bodyguard required that she be checked on every 7 minutes while she was in the bathroom and that she was not allowed to take baths. What's really sad is that they probably didn't think it was necessary anymore when they hired her latest bodyguard because Whitney had been doing better. :'(

You mustn't have watched every special. "I'm Your Baby Tonight" is mentioned but never more than the 2 #1 hits and other than being the album known as "more R&B". It was that album (1990-91) that saved her from losing half her fan-base. The perception of her having forsaken her R&B/gospel roots became overwhelming enough that a transition was unavoidable and in serious demand, and Babyface was the perfect remedy. www.pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nostalgiaalbums&action=display&thread=65620Needless to say, the album sold nearly 5 million copies, when last I checked. She didn't have to stay strictly pop to sell millions, as 'Face demonstrated in 1990, and was roundly demonstrated by her 1998 album (my favorite), My Love Is Your Love. The first time I heard "It's Not Right But It's Okay", in all its funk, was Nov. 21, 1998. I knew she had really turned a corner, and I knew she had another hit album on her hands, even before I heard "Heartbreak Hotel", which she did with Faith Evans and Kelly Price. A little bit of funk, a little bit of sass, and just a bit of an island groove (the title track), solidified her supreme legendary status.

Sorry for the double post.. But.. I hope people take notice to how important these singers are in the world today.. The ONLY artist to come close vocally is Adele.. And Jhud. But They WILL NEVER be WHITNEY OR MARIAH!

I don't think anyone can come close to the vocal trinity of the 90's. Mariah, Celine, Whitney
Even Christina and Kelly K are not in their league

Exclusive:
Whitney Did Leave a Will, And She Wasn't Bankrupt
Let’s clear up a few things about Whitney Houston. First of all, she left a last will and testament. It was drawn up after her divorce from Bobby Brown, according to my sources. Daughter Bobbi Kristina is her likely main heir. Despite dire reports, Houston also was not bankrupt or broke. Even though she didn’t have a publishing legacy–others wrote her songs–she did have money from album sales and touring.
She likely had advances, too, from various deals with Sony (formerly Sony BMG) dating from 2000. She made a lot of money–at least $35 million gross–from touring Europe and Asia in 2010. Sony is shipping and selling millions of her records right now.
And while there may not be a lot in the vaults of unreleased material, there will be enough to do some kind of souvenir album.
Her estate in Mendham, New Jersey has been on the market for three years. Yesterday, the price was dropped to $1.7 million. “The property is amazing,” says a friend. “Someone will buy it and remodel it.”
The gated home comes with an Olympic sized swimming pool that at one time bore a large “W” scripted on its bottom. Mostly, Houston had been dividing her time between Atlanta and Los Angeles.
Some other things to note: Houston was not scheduled to sing at the Clive Davis party on Saturday. She was merely there as a guest and cheerleader. As I reported on Saturday night– on Thursday she spent the morning and early afternoon with musical director Ricky Minor and Monica and Brandy. Minor reported that she’d been swimming and was in a good mood. Press saw her on Thursday with Davis and the singers. I was staying in the very same Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The sense that Whitney was wildly partying all over the place has been conveyed by the tabloids. It’s just not true. What she did at night outside the hotel is another story. And then there was the exclusive story we reported here about the leak on Friday night from her room into the one below.
The man in the suite below her saw water cascade through his bathroom ceiling at 2:30am. When he went upstairs, he found that the bathtub had been left on and was overflowing. Bobbi Kristina, 18, was not taking a bath at that hour. But she was awake, and the television in the room with the overflowing bathtub was cracked.
