Does MTV ever mention when artists die? I know they did for Michael but he was a video Icon....Whitney wasnt exactly known for her videos.

All of Whitney's videos from every one of her albums/soundtracks pre-2002 have gotten major, major play on MTV. So what if she didn't always win MTV VMA's every year, she was still a HUGE part of MTV from 1985-on. She's had countless MTV specials dedicated to just her, she's attended how many MTV VMAs throughout the years? It was a complete snub to not even show her picture and mention her.

I think what stunnedout probably meant was Whitney may not have been considered a “visionary” video artist (i.e. Michael, Janet, Madonna). I think her most visible period on MTV was The Bodyguard era and most of those videos were compilation clips from the movie. That said they were in HEAVY HEAVY rotation on MTV. The “My Love is Your Love” era clips with Kevin Bray really stepped up her video game. They were stunning.
I agree with most here that the VMA’s should have made some sort of mention/tribute. MTV is just a pre-teen reality channel now and that’s who they cater to.

It has been 7 months since that day. I feel like any tribute would've been 2nd rate and unnecessary. Viacom must've felt the same way. Who in attendence at the VMAs would've been able to give a proper tribute to Whitney Houston....... no one. The BET Awards was the format to top it off at. Yes Whitney was pop but she was still that girl from New Jersey and in the end that doesn't fit MTVs current audience. Another dry & tired IWALY performance from somebody wholey uncapable would've just pissed me off. Brandy, Monica, Mariah Carey, the cast of Waiting to Exhale, her family, Chaka Khan.... only 2 or 3 people out of that line-up would be recognizable and mainstays on that network. I can't hear any of the POP people of today doing any of her music. Even the Michael Jackson Tribute it was just dancers. No singing because that material is untouchable.

Plus I think it's time to move on. I obviously don't mean move on from Whitney but it's been 7 months and I'd rather move on from the focus on her death.

I mean they played her videos for over 48 hours straight on MTV after the news of her death with many more programs inbetween than and now to show tribute. How many award shows do you need to show that they miss her. Billboard Awards, BET Awards, the Grammys. Hopefully I don't hear or see this much outrage from some of ya'll when the American Music Awards come around this year.

I don't want to focus on it either, but I can't believe it's already been 7 months. :( Some of the saddest 7 months ever.

I dont care if its been months or weeks. they mentioned the dude from Beatie Boys and Michaels Tribute was awesome. They could have at least mentioned her. I hear that Divas live this year in Dec, will be a whole show tribute to Whitney. I believe MTV is heavily involved in Divas live/save the music. Anyway I dont want to focus on her Death either, but it was straight up disrespectful to mention one and not the other.

I never liked how it seemed like she has so many cover songs in her setlist.

I never liked how it seemed like she has so many cover songs in her setlist. I have to agree with you on this. I know the songs may have went with the theme of the concert for a new South Africa but being a huge Whitney fan, even I started to get a little antsy during the middle of the show.

That concert is fantastic. The performances of 'So Emotional' and 'SAMLFY' are among my favorites.

If the AMAs don't do a Whitney tribute, THERE WILL BE BLOOD! She's won more than any other female artist!

I don't know why I don't recall this airing on HBO. I was in college at the time, though, so...

I personally love love loooove the South Africa concert. When it first aired on HBO in 1994 my mom recorded it for me on VHS and I watched it every single day for about a year straight, no lie. I was obsessed with it. I don't mind the covers, she did them justice and sure loved to sing some Stevie. Love these performances

Denzel Washington: 'Whitney was my girl'Whitney Houston with Denzel Washington in “The Preacher’s Wife” *Denzel Washington says he believes Whitney Houston didn’t realize the extent that drugs had ravaged her body, and that her death is an ”example to keep it together.” The 57-year-old actor believes his friend, who was found dead in the bathtub in her Beverly Hills hotel room in February, was unaware of the toll her addiction had taken on her, and that she should be a warning to all actors and musicians. ”Whitney was such a sweet, sweet girl and really just a humble girl,” he says in the October issue of GQ. “It’s more of an example to me or the rest of us to keep it together. I was listening to her song ‘I Look to You’. It’s prophetic. ”Maybe I’m speaking out of line. Maybe she thought she could have one. And then the next thing you know, her body was betraying her. She didn’t know that her body was aging quickly. She couldn’t take it. Your body can only take so much. ”Some people survive [Hollywood and fame], and some people don’t.” Denzel thinks Whitney’s story was particularly tragic because she had once gotten clean, but he accepts that it’s hard to avoid relapsing. ”Whitney was my girl, and she had done so well in recovery. And that is the toughest part about addiction,” he said. “And that was a monster drug that got a hold of her, it was a mean one. You can’t go back to that one. Nobody beats that. ”I look at people – and I don’t think I’m speaking out of line – Samuel L. Jackson, I’ve known for thirty-some-odd years, he was down at the bottom. And he came all the way back. And when he cleaned up, he never looked back. But he can’t have that beer, because it might lead to the tough thing.”

I remember watching the Oprah interview when "I look to you" came out and I remember Whitney talking about still having a drug sometimes and I thought to myself she doesnt realize that as an addict you cant just have a glass of wine or champagne. Its leads to other things. SMH

Yeah, Whitney did tell Oprah if she had a drink every now and then that it wasn't a problem. But she just probably told herself that drinking was never an issue for her, but the reality is when you're a recovering addict of any substance abuse, any kind of vice can bring those habits back. Whitney even told Wendy Williams back in 2003 that she's not much of a drinker, Bobby's drunk ass probably made her stay away from drinking since he would be such a mean drunk, it's too bad that it couldn't be the same for drugs.
Too much of both is bad for your health either way. Just one vice is legal, and one isn't.

I don't think this was posted yet. The greatest hits that is out November 13 is titled "I Will Always Love You - The Best of Whitney Houston". 01. You Give Good Love 02. Saving All My Love For You 03. How Will I Know 04. Greatest Love Of All 05. I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) 06. Didn't We Almost Have It All 07. So Emotional 08. Where Do Broken Hearts Go 09. I'm Your Baby Tonight 10. All The Man That I Need 11. I Will Always Love You 12. I'm Every Woman 13. I Have Nothing 14. Exhale (Shoop Shoop) 15. I Believe In You And Me 16. My Love Is Your Love 17. I Look To You (with R. Kelly) 18. Never Give Up I'm sure people are going to have some things to say about "Heartbreak Hotel" and "It's Not Right But It's Okay" being absent from the tracklisting. This collection seems to focus on predominantly on her career through The Bodyguard and not so much on her career after that. The full version of this shot is the cover photo.
