Does anyone else miss Lady Gaga circa 2008 when she danced around with her discostick she didn't take herself so seriously and she was fun and normal in her interviews? I noticed that when she broke out in the US and in the UK and took the world by storm she started to get weird and even started to act different.... and not necessarily in a good way. Watch this... And then this... :S

I thought I was the only one who noticed the change. For her first year or, she was more of the wild music startlet wearing funky glasses and no pants out in public. IMO, she was like a slightly more stylish Ke$ha.
Once she blew up, she because so "artsy" and "highbrow" both in her visual imagery and overall persona.

No. I far prefer 2010/2011 Lady Gaga...though I obviously haven't heard the new music. She is the biggest pop star in the world and I'm enjoying the over-hype.

it's why she's so big, she has to constantly re-invent herself. She's done well, it will be interesting to see if she doesn't over expose herself.

What you mean the over-tanned ladyboy? No, not especially.

What you mean the over-tanned ladyboy? No, not especially. I kind of agree. She could keep her old looks to herself but her personality was miles better. That said, she always took herself seriously, but it was more about the art and the fun of it. Now it just feels like she's a self-indulgent mess.

Yes. I loved her so much back then. Believe it or not, she was second only to Kelly Clarkson for me. Now everything she says/does just bothers the crap out of me.

She was still a glib mouthpiece with a mistakenly profound sense of self, she still fancied herself the highbrow be-all and end-all of music (e.g. 'pop music will never be lowbrow') and she still piled 50 haute couture pieces on without any regard to the aesthetic value of said pieces. The only difference is she's doing a helluva lot more convincing job now than she was then. Yes. I loved her so much back then. Believe it or not, she was second only to Kelly Clarkson for me. Now everything she says/does just bothers the crap out of me. Do you know what scares people? Success. When you're not competition, everybody loves you. recording artist Nicki Minaj

You can evolve, and still be a likable person. Do you know what scares people? Success. When you're not competition, everybody loves you. recording artist Nicki Minaj Irrelevant. Even in [her] beginning, she was more successful than Kelly.

Well I still find her likable and obviously plenty of people do because The Fame Monster did incredibly well. I'd find her less likable if she never moved past the girl who wasn't so out there and sang Just Dance and was being compared to the female Akon/Colby O'Donis.

I kinda do. Something about her when she first came out felt exciting. But I still like her a lot now. Her personality has become a bit strange(even though it was strange in the beginning), so I guess it has become more strange I suppose. But I don't blame her, when an artist catapults to the top the way she has, they won't be the same again. As long as she doesn't treat her fans like shit like some stars do, I'm ok.

In a word - no. I was not the least bit interested in her until 'Paparazzi' video/VMA performance. (e.g. 'pop music will never be lowbrow') I thought Krhazy said this lol. Looooolllllllllll you say the weirdest s**t :looksinmirror: [2] lol I promise I didn't copy you.

In a word - no. I was not the least bit interested in her until 'Paparazzi' video/VMA performance. +1. Before that, to me she was just another singer trying to carve out a niche to differentiate herself from every other female pop singer. The only thing is that she actually succeeded so why would I want her to go back to being the same as everyone else? However, I do understand what everyone means when they say she's self-indulgent. I think part of that concerns me because when I read it, I realize that it is kind of true and it makes for an easy target on her part. But then I come back down to earth and figure, I just love the music. If she can back up everything with really awesome music, then I'm on her side. But if the new album disappoints me, then I may have to question this.

In a word - no. I was not the least bit interested in her until 'Paparazzi' video/VMA performance. This. She's only got better with TFM to me. Her personality's out there, but I don't know, I feel like she was just on tour and fairly quiet for a while. Now that her single is going to come out within the next few weeks she's been out there and loud, but...I expected as much. Maybe I'll start to see what has everyone so bothered when the era is in full swing, but...I don't really see it yet.

Gaga has always relied heavily on having a shtick (and no, I don't mean dique). From the beginning she was labeled self-indulgent, desperate, fake, etc. But none of these criticisms ever mattered because the people criticizing didn't understand the magical essence of Gaga: her wicked sense of humor. She never took herself seriously.
The latter interview pointed out in the OP is to prove a point but it doesn't work for me because those were the types of interviews that made me fall in love with her in the first place. She's over-the-top, campy, silly.
A lot of her shtick, on and off the stage, is more or less just an extension of her performances. I've always said that the moment she takes herself too seriously is when she will stumble because then she will lose a lot of her fun appeal. It's really important that she doesn't buy into her own hype.
I could see how people would be bothered by her recently and feel like she is doing just that (buying into her own hype). That performance where she yelled something to the effect of "a pop star and the bitch can siiiiing" would be a shining example of moment when it can be argued that she is losing sight of her campy shtick that got her to where she is now and is instead just relying on cocky shtick where she is a bit too pompous (and not in the campy, silly, tongue-in-cheek way that she was initially like in that video featured above).
Sure it can be argued that she is incredibly humble by people pointing out her intense love and appreciation for her fans (cue the video of her onstage blubbering) but that isn't exactly effective when you consider the fact that these are super fans; gratefulness for fans =/= being humble.
Personally, I still love her and my fandom has done nothing but expand since her debut. I just hope she avoids the possible pitfalls that are difficult to avoid when you have people literally worshiping the ground you walk on.
She just has to keep a balance between her old shtick and her new shtick. And continue making kickass music and slaying all the other hoes with each performance.

I think it's her personality that bothers me the most about her now. She's taken her weirdness too far even in the way that she speaks and it's becoming too much.
No one's saying that she shouldn't have changed her music or evolved. I actually like "The Fame Monster" better than "The Fame", but in terms or image-reflecting-music, when she first came out she was fun and playful and it seemed like she was in on the joke with her ridiculous outfits etc. especially since it fit her music to a tee.
Now she's a self parody. She's gotten a little more serious with her lyrics but her music still isn't nearly as deep as she makes it out to be. It's still frothy, but yet her album cover photos in TFM make it look like it's a Bjork album, as well as her videos.
And I'd much rather watch a simple video like "Poker Face" video than the bloated epics that are "Alejandro" and "Telephone" because it simply fit her music better. (Imagine Ace of Base doing a video like "Alejandro" to "Don't Turn Around" :s)
I understand she wants to be an icon like Madonna or MJ but that doesn't happen over night. Take your time, Stefani!!
I'll always support her music as long as it's good because she is very talented, but I'm speaking more about the way she portrays herself.

She was much cuter back in Poker Face days. She wasnt trying to be too in our face and it was kinda refreshing . Now she's so uppity and feel like she's God's gift to the gays which we all know is ... but her music is much better now and she has evolved and became a better artist but its always better to have people feel like they can relate to you. After watching those interviews you could clearly see that "The Fame" has gotten to her head but I wouldnt call her a monster as she means well and goes hard for her fans. Yes Im a Cheeseball. Deal with it.

I liked her better then. Her music videos are too over-blown now... I still think "Poker Face" is her best song and video for me. She just comes off to me as trying too hard at this point.
Still love her though.

How about 'Paparazzi' Gaga to 'Telephone' Gaga? That was her peak, for me.

She's never had the greatest personality, but it's obvious that it's become even dryer as her career has progressed. If anyone has an excuse to be a b!tch or a diva though, it's her. Girl works for it lol

Yeah I liked her better when she was just a normal dance-pop singer, now she seems so weird idk. Her music is still pretty good, but I have to say I'm kind of put of by her image.
