If the awards are based on Billboard's charts she won't win _everything_ but will certainly make a big impact there

Considering Gaga was the #1 artist of 2010, it stands to reason that she'll take this years Artist of the Year Award. and just days before her album release. I see what they are trying to do. :kii:

I don't see her winning any awards this year but I would hope they could honor her for her achievements so far...it seems obvious that a new wave of pop artist are taking over and the fact that she is holding her own is worth something. Since this will be in May she will release her album in March with a second single...I think it would be great promo...plus hopefully she can score another #1 album and single and platinum plaque. Award-giving bodies rarely appreciate Britney. She should have been awarded a WMA for her achievement a long time ago yet they awarded Jennifer Lopez a lifetime achievement award. I don't need for them to give her awards for sympathy like the 2008 VMAs, but they need to realize how long she has come and still getting hit singles and albums to this day and age WTF? JLO got a lifetime achievement award. SMDH. Well, it's not the Grammy's or AMAs so hopefully she can receive one this year...no telling when she is going to come out with another album and I have a feeling that after this album it will be a couple of years before she puts out another. I just think it is the best time really...selling close to 100 million records plus all the above mentioned things in my prior post for some reason it seems like it most likely won't happen for her 8th or 9th album and should happen now. IDK...I'm rambling but I see her career slightly evening out after this era. :'(

Nobody with less than 20 years in the industry should be given a lifetime achievement award.

May 22nd huh? I expect Gaga to win everything and perform new tracks from her album which will be released the day after. Billboard and Interscope already had this planned. it honeslty wouldnt surpirse me if interscope is funding a lot of this show and thats why its televised again, theyre prbly funding it knowing gaga will get plenty of awards, they ll get plenty of commerical slots, and she can perform

But the tracking year is Mar-Mar versus the normal mid Nov-mid Nov. The 09 holiday season was HUGE for GaGa with TFM being released and BR tearing up the charts, though she'll get some bonus points for BTW. I doubt she'll get Artist of the Year - my guess is the top 5/6 includes Eminem, Justin Bieber, Usher, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry & Taylor Swift. Rihanna & K$ should get some mention as well. I think Eminem will win Artist of the Year.

Eminem needs to win Artist Of The Year.
But hey...
Jimmy Iovine is going to have a big day rather it's Eminem or Gaga.

A mid-spring Billboard Awards show. Very sloppy. ??? It tarnishes the idea of determining the best of the year, meaning calendar year. What they had, from 1990 to 2006 (the marking period being the first week of December of the previous year to the final week of November of the show's calendar year), was as close to accurate as it came.

Good point. Is that really much different from the Grammy's where people typically when their awards a year after their song really makes impact.

Gaga has a show on the 22, so if she wins anything she'll have to send in a video of sorts.

Aren't Billboard awards based on sales like the AMAs or am I wrong?

Aren't Billboard awards based on sales like the AMAs or am I wrong? Billboard and World Music Awards are based on sales AMAs are based on votes if I'm not mistaken VMA/EMAs are based on bs/politics I don't recall ;) Grammy's are supposed to be based on objective quality, although they snubbed Amy Winehouse for album of the year.

Honestly, they need to give either Britney or Eminem a special achievement award.
I want Britney for obvious reasons but she has also broken a few records this era as well (related to the Billboard charts) Billboard related achievements-
Let's see: #1 albums 9-Barbra 7-Madonna 6-Britney tied in 3rd place with Mariah and Janet 6-Mariah 6-Janet 5-Mary J. Blige 4-Whitney 4-Alicia
8th best selling female artist in the US.
Current album- Femme Fatale era -firstfemale artist to have all 7 of her albums debut at either #1 of 2 -youngest female artist to have 6 #1 albums (under 30) - the first artist to have multiple #1 debuts since Mariah Carey - the first female artist (2nd artist overall after Usher) to have at least a #1 hit in 90s, 00s, 10s, -#1 albums in 3 decades (along with Whitney, Janet, Madonna, MJ) -#1 singles in 3 decades (along with MJ, Janet, Madonna, Usher) -youngest artist to have 6#1 albums -only female artist to have 6 albums debut at #1 -only artist under 30 to have 6#1 albums -youngest solo artist under 30 to sell 100 million records. Other albums BOMT-youngest artist to sell over 6 million albums in the us. youngest artist to go diamond (14x platinum) OIDIA-highest first week sales, youngest artist to have back to back diamond albums (14x & 10x platinum) Britney-first female artist to have 3 of their first albums debut at 1. At 19, selling 37 million records WW becoming the best selling teenage artist of all time. In the zone-first female artist to have 4 of their first albums debut at 1. Blackout-first female artist to have all 5 of her albums debut at either #1 or #2... Circus-first artist to have 4 studio albums debut with over 500k, highest digital sales for a female at the time.
If not, Britney definitely Eminem. But I would like for them to honor Eminem in 2012 as he will probably have a new album out to promote by then and Britney's album is current.
They are probably the last artists of our generation that will sell over 100M records and rank up there with the icons of the 70s-90s as far as chart success.

Gaga has a show on the 22, so if she wins anything she'll have to send in a video of sorts. The Monster Ball ends on May 6th, and with her album out the day after this show I'm sure she'll attend and probably perform.

Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, More to Perform at Billboard Music AwardsApril 11, 2011 The 2011 Billboard Music Awards are shaping up to be one hot ticket: Rihanna, the Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Taio Cruz are the first performers announced for newly revived show, which will air live on ABC from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Sunday, May 22. And more announcements are on the way. On Wednesday morning (Apr. 13), the full list of nominees will be unveiled at a press conference in Las Vegas. More announcements will roll out as the date approaches, so stay tuned to Billboard.biz in the coming weeks for the latest updates. Tickets for the Billboard Music Awards start at $57.75 and are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com. The Billboard Music Awards will reflect Billboard's chart rankings based on key fan interactions with music, including album, radio play, single and digital sales, touring, streaming and social interactions on MySpace, Facebook and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners. The awards will be based on the reporting period of February 28, 2010 through March 1, 2011. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, including R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative. "This show marks the first of several broadcast platforms we plan to build around the Billboard franchise," said Richard D. Beckman, CEO of Prometheus Global Media, which owns Billboard. "We have an incredible network partner and with Don Mischer, one of the finest producers in the world. We look forward to entertaining music fans with Billboard's own rendition of a televised celebration of music." www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/rihanna-black-eyed-peas-more-to-perform-1005125932.story

Bieber? Blah. It should have been Katy. She has three 3 million selling, #1 airplay singles on the period.
Too bad her album sales haven't really performed as amazingly.

I dont get how Rihanna is there instead of Katy.
During eligibility period Katy has sold More Albums and Singles than her.

Nominations are out Top Artist: Justin Bieber, Eminem, GaGa, Rihanna, Taylor Not surprising The year-end top artist are 1. GaGa 2. Taylor 3. Eminem 8. Rihanna 9. Justin Bieber GaGa is gonna win this one. They didn't put Lady Antebellum and Ke$ha in although they ranked higher in the year-end 'cause ke$ha is gonna win New Artist and Hot 100 song and Lady Antebellum as Country album and a bunch of other country awards. I really am positive they'd still go with the Year-End than this tracking period.
