Is Adele unbeatable in her 5 main categories? AOTY, ROTY, SOTY, Pop Vocal Perf, Pop Album. Main AOTY contenders look like Adele, Lil Wayne, Coldplay (being released in time?), Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Elton John/Leon Russell, Alison Krauss. 2nd rate looks like Beyonce, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Raphael Saadiq, The Civil Wars (if hype really swells) Imagine if she scored 6 grammy's...better yet 7. Where else would she even submit? I don't think her momentum is enough to win the music video award.

Any updates on the best new artist contenders?
Someone posted Luke Bryan but didn't he have a couple of albums already
Wiz Khalifa Nicki Minaj Jessie J The Band Perry ...who else
Bon Iver Marsha Ambrosius???
I don't see Wiz Khalifa winning. Jessie J might be overlooked because of Adele...she hasn't even had the impact of Duffy. The Band Perry might be a top contender I pray that with Moment for Life, right thru me, and Fly (disregard the forgettable Check it out, the not safe for tv/radio Did it on em, the bubblegum Superbass) will grant Nicki Minaj a win. She's made a huge impact in 2010/11 Bon Iver-he's indie and that seems to be favored Marsha-she's r&b and came from a band but she makes great music and this is her first solo.
Hoping: 1) Nicki 2) Marsha 3) The band perry 4) Bon iver 5) Wiz
Realistically toss up The band perry, Nicki, and Bon Iver Marsha Ambrosius could be a dark horse Wiz would be an upset.

I'm predicting King B, Slaydele, Godga & Yeezy to be big winners. I also predict each of them getting a nomination for AOTY.

Bruno Mars should definitely score a BNA nomination. I think it'll be between him and Nicki Minaj. Would love for Jessie J to sneak in there as well. (And before anyone asks, yes, he is eligible despite being nominated and winning earlier this year.)

He would be the top contender except I thought he was disqualified for already winning a grammy last year. ???

I was mistaken on the change. An artist can now be nominated for their work on another artist's album and/or their own single (as long as their own album isn't released within the eligibility period) and still get nominated for BNA the year after. However, it appears that if an artist were to win one of those nominations then it would disqualify them. So yes, because he won one of the seven he was nominated for last year, Bruno is not eligible. www.pollstar.com/blogs/news/archive/2010/07/07/730864.aspx

He would have been the clear frontrunner. She has sold well, put out great singles that could be nominated as well (moment for life/fly/right thru me). She has a great image in the music industry and her impact is very noticeable. She's not too hip hop and unless the band perry or some random indie artist that they might favor I can't think of another person that could take it. It would be great for her to be in the company of Lauryn Hill, too. It just seems like very little competition this year.

Best New Artist predictions:
-Nicki Minaj [taking the win, too] -The Band Perry -Jessie J -random Alternative/AAA artist -random artist, a la Esperanza Spalding
Oh, and I'm starting to think that not only will Taylor miss out on Album of the Year, but they'll give a Country slot to Jason Aldean for My Kinda Party. #1 hits, hasn't dropped out of the Billboard 200 top 10 in how long (?), and is still selling in the 20-40k range weekly after a November 2010 release, while Taylor's album hasn't produced at Billboard Country #1s, sales have dwindled, etc. I could still be wrong, but I'm thinking that Jason will be taking the spotlight. He's had bigger hits than her this year, especially with Don't You Wanna Stay (with Kelly Clarkson) and Dirt Road Anthem (the remix with Ludacris shot this song even further than it was originally to go).

I actually think Nicki has a stronger shot at winning BNA than Drake did last year with her crossover success, but a lot of people won't be so comfortable with her becoming the first real solo rapper to win (after Arrested Development) and so I wouldn't be surprised if another upset happens.

With songs like Moment for life, right thru me, Fly and commercially songs like Superbass check it out did it onemI think she does have a strong chance now that Bruno is out of the running. Lauryn Hill is a real rapper it's just she won for an r&b hip hop album. She could be the first female rapper to win for a rap album, though. I really hope the moves that she has been making too switch her image and make her album more commercial and accessible will work in her favor.

Drake had larger crossover success tbh (kinda depends on how you look at it). But she crossed over into the mainstream more. She has a better shot than him because she has less competition.

Taylor deserves the spot over Aldean, no doubt. If it goes the other way, I'll be pissed.

I wouldnt be surprised if there isn't a country slot in AOTY this year. They could get slammed with that, though. Country's been a top-of-the-line genre throughout the past few years, and it's exploded due to the multiple-genre infusion that's been incorporated into the music. I can't see it not getting a nomination. Swift, Aldean, Kenny, etc. There will be a Country nod. I can't see the genre getting snubbed.

It might be a stretch in early July but Adele MIGHT have the biggest album & single of the year as well as major Grammys for her album & single. Has this ever happened before?

So only Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu) in 1958, Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1970, The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face in 1972 and Bette Davis Eyes in 1981 have exhibited such domination. If Adele notches it, it'll be the first in 30 years!
Need You Now came dangerously close by winning both Grammys and ranking as Billboard's #2 hit of 2010.

So it's a bit more common with albums to dominate charts AND awards. Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1970, Rumours in 1977, Saturday Night Fever in 1978, 52nd Street in 1979, Thriller in 1983, Faith in 1988, The Bodyguard in 1993 and Fearless in 2009. If Adele does it, she'll be the 9th.
BUT, If Adele has Billboard's Album of the Year, Billboard's Single of the Year AND wins Grammys for Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year, she'll be the second act to do so.
So far, it's only Simon & Garfunkle for Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1970...41 years ago.
*Music From Peter Gunn and Jagged Little Pill also won both honors but different years. MFPG won the Grammy in 1958 and the Billboard honor in 1959. JLP was Grammy's winner for 1995 and took the sales title in 1996.
**Not sure if this looks any different using top sellers of the calendar years.

If Beyonce's album remains a slight underperformer, I wonder how her chances will be. Many are saying she'll easily get an AOTY nod because of positive reviews and the general glow that surrounds Beyonce and her career. This year is an absurdly competitive year though for big-names (Taylor Swift, Adele, Kanye West, Coldplay(?), Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Lil Wayne(?), Jay-Z/Kanye West(?), Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers).

I think Adele is the clear frontrunner for all the general categories (with the exception of BNA of course but she is realllly living up to that title).
But really Best New Artist could be anyone this year, I'm not exactly rooting for anyone like I have been in the past (other than Christina Perri, but that would be a long shot). Because rarely do they ever give it to the best new artist.

Nicki might actually have a better shot with the ongoing domestic violence sympathy situation. A successful re-release of PF would put her in an even better position.

I'm assuming the Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse duet is the frontrunner for Pop Duo/Group Performance? Bennett + Gaga + Amy may sneak into the AOTY race.
Adele - 21 Tony Bennett - Duets Lady Gaga - Born This Way Taylor Swift - Speak Now Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy OR Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne
Though I'm sure a rock album will get in.
