Carrie has some Shania-esque songs like "Cowboy Casanova" and "Songs Like This". "Cowboy Cassanova", sure, but "Songs Like This" isn't something Shania would sing. It's not clever enough.

Shania Twain Returns To Country Songs Chartby Gary Trust | June 20, 2011 4:05 EDT The latest stop on Shania Twain's multi-media comeback blitz: Billboard's Country Songs chart. The star singer/songwriter ends a six-year hiatus from the survey, as "Today Is Your Day" blasts in as the list's highest debut at No. 40. The bow marks the fourth-highest start of Twain's 33 entries dating to her arrival in 1993. (All charts will be refreshed Thursday, June 23, on Billboard.com). "Today" launches with 2.3 million audience impressions and airplay detected on 84 of the Country Songs chart's 127 reporters, according to Nielsen BDS. Twain had last appeared on Country Songs with the No. 29-peaking "Shoes," from the "Desperate Housewives" soundtrack, in 2005. She has scored 16 Country Songs top 10s, including seven No. 1s. Twain shot to Nashville dominance when her 1995 release "The Woman in Me" spent 29 weeks atop Billboard's Country Albums chart. The album has sold 7.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Follow-up "Come On Over" yielded a record eight Country Songs top 10s and totaled a record 50 weeks at No. 1 on Country Albums. With 15.5 million copies sold, the set ranks as the second-best-selling album in the U.S. since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. ( Metallica's eponymous 1991 album outpaces "Over" by 167,000 units). With 34 million albums sold, Twain is the top-selling female country artist in SoundScan history. ( Reba McEntire ranks second at 29.8 million). Since releasing her most recent studio album, however, 2002's "Up!," Twain has seemingly made more headlines for her personal life. Following her husband and creative partner Robert John "Mutt" Lange's affair with her best friend, Marie Anne Thibaud, Twain divorced Lange last year. Twain married Frederic Thiebaud (Marie Anne Thiebaud's ex-husband) Jan. 1 and has maintained a presence across a variety of platforms since. Twain was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame March 27; she released the autobiographical book, "From This Moment On," May 3; and, she debuted "Why Not? with Shania Twain" May 8 on OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network, premiering "Today" in the series' first episode. (She unveiled a duet remake with Lionel Richie of his 1981 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 "Endless Love" (with Diana Ross) in the show's June 12 finale). On June 2, Twain received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At a June 8 press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, she announced plans to headline Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas with "Still the One," set to open Dec. 1, 2012, and run for two years. While Twain has yet to formalize plans for her next studio album, her track record at the format and pop culture standing are making for a warm welcome at radio in her return with "Today." Despite Twain's sparse recent output, her plentiful catalog has allowed her to remain a force on country radio. "Even after a long absence, I am still asked about her quite often," says WGTY (Great Country 107.7)/York, Penn., operations manager Scott Donato. The station spun "Today" 19 times in the June 13-19 tracking week, the most among all Country Songs panelists. "With many of our listeners glued to her television series, and her book sales taking off, she is still very much relevant in 2011." "Shania is a superstar, not just among country fans, but music fans in general," says KMPS (94.1)/Seattle program director Becky Brenner. The station played "Today" 12 times last week. "Her story is one that people can relate to and want to hear more about. She is not afraid to share her journey so that others can be inspired to pursue their dreams. I think that makes people want to support her even more." While Twain made most of her trips up Country Songs with such uptempo fare as "Any Man of Mine," "That Don't Impress Me Much," and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!," her new single, released to radio and digital retailers June 12, is a ballad, which Twain wrote (and co-produced with David Foster and Nathan Chapman). "The song is different for her, and we've received a range of opinions on it, mostly positive, with some negatives sprinkled in," says Donato. "Even so, most of the listeners who responded negatively are still looking forward to hearing more new material from her. The vast majority are simply excited to hear her back on the radio. "Only time will tell if the music matches the anticipation," Donato muses. "We'll know much better in coming weeks if this song is truly something this market wants to hear. "Just because it's somewhat of a curveball on first listen doesn't worry me too much. She's Shania Twain, for garsh sakes, and she's omnipresent right now. "If this new music does break through, I'll be as happy as anyone, both as a fan and for the format." Sources: Billboard.com / Billboard.biz

Shania Twain Shows Strength in New ‘Today Is Your Day’ VideoBy: Alanna Conaway | 3 hours ago This week, Shania Twain gave fans what they’ve been longing for since the mid-2000s: a new music video! ‘Today Is Your Day’ premiered online, showing the singer looking better than ever. While she sings the opening verses of the song, Twain proves she is a strong woman in more ways than one, as personal footage of her skydiving and rock climbing play. Always known for one to have a good time, Twain also shows a bit of her silly side as she sings the song lakeside and poses next to a vehicle sporting her beautiful face. Twain is also featured in her element: the recording studio, where she lays the track down for the powerful and inspiring song. The video includes many behind-the-scenes and personal clips of the singer away from the spotlight, including her training with a Lipizzaner Stallion and special moments with her new hubby, Frederic Thiebaud. The new single has become an anthem for country music fans since its release. Fans can see Twain perform the song live starting in December 2012 when she begins a series of performances at Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas. celebs.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474979559732Jennifer Lopez Could be Replaced by Shakira or Shania Twain on 'American Idol'July 04, 2011 02:30 PM EDT Jennifer Lopez better make up her mind about whether or not she's returning to American Idol -- the show is already searching for her replacement.
It seems that appearing on American Idol has somewhat boosted J-Lo's career, as the singer/actress has a number of other projects currently lined up. In addition to planning on pimping out the single "Papi" from her album 'Love,' she's set to star in What to Expect When You're Expecting, a movie about mommyhood co-starring Brooklyn Decker, Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, and Cameron Diaz.
With so much on her plate (including what could be the Bridesmaids of next year), it's not surprising that Jennifer Lopez is considering leaving American Idol (after all, she's also got twin toddlers to take care of at home!). However, she's currently just stalling negotiations while she tries to make up her mind about what she wants to do.
In the meantime, American Idol is already trying to find her replacement, and it looks like Shakira and Shania Twain are currently at the top of the list. Shakira has a similar Latin background to J-Lo, so it's not surprising that the pint-sized pop star is being considered. However, Shania Twain would add a little country flavor to the show, something it hasn't had before.
Of course American Idol could always try to compete with The Voice (which does feature a country singer on its panel of "coaches") by signing on a little more star power -- three celebrity judges just doesn't seem to be enough these days. So will it take two sexy singers to replace Jennifer Lopez on American Idol, or will she decide to try and find time to stay on the show? It seems like she's leaning toward not returning, but she still has a little bit of time to change her mind.
With all the drama surrounding the hosts and judges of singing reality show competitions these days, producers might want to consider creating reality shows about what goes on behind the scenes, and if Jennifer Lopez does leave, Fox could always make a little extra cash by creating a celebrity-filled reality competition to find her replacement (such a show might prove to be just as popular as American Idol itself as viewers tune in to see who will show up).

three celebrity judges just doesn't seem to be enough these days. ... and yet four judges sounds somewhat excessive. They have tried that before, 'member? Plus, Shania would already be continually preoccupied with Vegas. I would love seeing Shania every week, but why bother? She has Vegas shows, she has public support; she simply needs to start focusing heavily on music. This would only serve as another distraction. Nobody probably agrees with this, though.

I'm also hoping she focuses on her music, but if she did decide to do Idol, she could. Her Vegas show doesn't start until December of next year, and Idol only runs from January-May. She could just do one season, but even if she decided to do more, I'm sure they could schedule her Vegas shows around the AI taping schedule. But yeah, ideally, I want her to work on album to be released later this year, go on tour next year, and then do her Vegas show. If she wants to do Idol while doing her Vegas show, then fine. If not, I think it would be nice for her to eventually be a judge on Idol or X-Factor once her Vegas show ends.

am i the only person who thinks shes not going to release a new album? I mean think about it...she will have to promote the hell out of it this year, promo around the world, then tour? while working on vegas and being a mother and husband..not to mention if she's ready to sing in front of people at this moment....Don't see it happening. I think us Shania fans have to be prepared for her to do something like Idol until her vegas show and thats where she will be- altho I really hope I'm wrong but just think thats how it will pann out. She promotes an album for over a year...she won't have the time

My gut is telling me that a new album won't materialize either but after watching her journey on her show, my heart wants to believe that she fought too hard to get her voice back and she's survived too much for her not to pour it all into a brand new album. Plus, it has to be bittersweet on some level for her to have an entire catalog full of music produced by the one man who shattered her world to begin with so I would think she would like to start anew with fresh material in there as well.

yeah I agree...I could see a great album materialize that tells her story. I could see it be a Dixie Chicks type of album (their last) or some kind of album like that if written, produced and promoted welll...but who knows. this deal with vegas seals her fate with a new record. She's not going to release an album and not promote it all over the world...and I am 100% sure she wont be touring next year...no time...Again..HOPE I AM WRONG

My personal prediction is that if there will be a new album, it would be around February or March of 2012.

I hope that we can someday hear the material she and Mutt recorded that wasn't released.
I doubt it though.

It would be really sad if we never got another proper album from her. I feel like she's just lost, musically, without Mutt at the moment simply because she doesn't know what direction to take. I absolutely think that with the right producers, she could easily crank out more country hits. She's too past her prime to make it on the mainstream airwaves but she should definitely still keep her music Pop-tinged because that's what made her popular and that's what people want from her.

Perhaps being a judge on Idol could revive her career the same way it did J-Lo's. She could use the show as a platform to promote her lead single and album, and perhaps even perform on one of the results shows. She could release the album around March next year as someone else said, and go on a small tour once the show ends with some international appearances as well.

I think she could continue on from UP just fine as long as the material is good. :) With that, if she gets with the right producers/songwriters I think she could easily have three more good eras (at least, hopefully speaking). :)
I HOPE that her album gets finished by the end of the year so she could start promoting it next year, do Idol too, but obviously not tour, and just do the Vegas show instead. #wish

Never thought I'd be advocating for someone to be a part of AI, but considering the huge following in the South and the success country artists seem to have in the competition, Shania would be a logical choice. It also would be good for her if she decides to release new music. J-Lo is no spring chicken and she scored a major hit. Shania could easily do the same. All it takes are the downloads. Look at what TDIYD did and while I do think it compares at all to her best work, it shows that people are still interested in her music.

Well it looks like J-Lo has signed on for another season of American Idol, so I don't know if they're still considering looking for another judge...I still wouldn't mind Shania joining the panel as the 4th judge though.

Idol didn't really "revive" Lopez's career, though- it helped her land one major hit. it didn't guarantee great album sales or a smash second single.
