Idol didn't really "revive" Lopez's career, though- it helped her land one major hit. it didn't guarantee great album sales or a smash second single. I think saying that Idol gave her a career a nice kickstart (or re-kickstart) is a fair statement...

I think that the show doesn't guarantee any success. Lopez could have easily flopped if the material wasn't good enough. She was lucky to have a radio-friendly single produced by RedOne at the time, and Idol just gave her that extra push. I am still confident though, that even without Idol, "On the Floor" would have still been a hit. It probably just would've taken much longer for it to take off. How all this relates to Shania is that if she were to be a judge there is no certainty that her career would have any sort of kickoff. "Today Is the Day" already was promoted with her show (although, to be fair, to a much lesser extent than Idol would have given), so somebody can't say the reason it didn't perform well was because lack of promotion. The problem is that the public just isn't interested, most likely due to the sub-par material. She would need something reminiscent of her earlier material if she were to have a comeback, and, unfortunately, I can't see that happening. As much as I would absolutely love for Shania to be a judge on Idol, it just seems kind of pointless (as far as staging a comeback) without the proper material to take advantage of it... so... it may be better for her to take that position once she has regrouped herself, if she ever does.

The problem is that the public just isn't interested ... with that song. The public, for the most part, loves Shania.

I wish her and Mutt could still somehow maintain their professional relationship, but that seems to be out of the question. :(

July 22, 2011GAC Time Machine: Shania Twain’s “Any Man Of Mine”By Sarah Wyland | Leave a CommentIt was just about this very same week back in 1995 when Shania Twain hit the top of the Billboard country chart with “Any Man of Mine,” a song that quickly became an anthem for women everywhere. Written by Shania and her then-husband Mutt Lange, the song was Shania’s very first No. 1 single and also her first crossover hit when it reached the Top 40 on the pop charts. The song was featured on her multi-platinum selling album, The Woman In Me, which won the 1995 Grammy for Best Country Album and ACM award for Album of the Year. The video for “Any Man of Mine” was filmed in Santa Ynez, California and directed by John Derek and Charley Randazzo. In the video, Shania is on a ranch, riding horses, herding cattle and driving pickup trucks. She raised eyebrows – and the pulse rates of men everywhere – by wearing jeans and a midriff baring jean vest while dancing around in a field. The video won the Canadian Country Music Award for Video of the Year as well as AOL’s Online Music Award for Hottest Country Video. Jump in the GAC Time Machine and take a trip back to 1995 for Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine”: What’s your favorite Shania video of all-time? Leave us a comment below and tells us what you think! New"People" Book - 2011 "Country's Biggest Stars" A new "People" Magazine book is in stores now. The "People" book is titled "Country's Biggest Stars: Inside the Lives of Nashville's A-List."The "People" book features pictures and profiles on everyone from Shania Twain, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Faith Hill ...to... Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and groups/duos like Lady Antebellum and Sugarland. The book/magazine is now available in Barnes & Noble bookstores and in some grocery stores on magazine racks. It's usually found by the regular weekly "People" magazine. The cover of the special "People" book has a black background with several small photos of famous country stars. A small version of this Shania Twain photo is shown on the Bottom of the Cover of the "People" book. Shania is featured on Pages 54 - 57 in the section titled "Their Life Is Like A Country Song: Hard Times and Heartbreak Only Made Them Stronger."In addition to an article, there are several Shania Twain photos on those pages, including a Full-Page photo of Shania performing "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" at the 2002 CMA Awards. Here are some of the other photos from the "People" book: 2003 photo of Shania & Mutt; 2006 Swiss Gala photo of Shania & her ex-'best friend' Marie-Anne Thiebaud; Full-Page photo of Shania from the 2002 CMA Awards. There are other Shania Twain photos in the "People" book.
The following is the entire article that appears in the "People" book: SHANIA TWAIN For Twain, life's drama began even before she was born. While her mother was giving birth, there were complications, and Eilleen Edwards (as she was known before she began calling herself Shania - an Ojibwa word meaning "on my way" - and took her stepfather's last name) emerged blue from a lack of oxygen and was presumed stillborn. "Looking back," the singer wrote in her 2011 memoir, From This Moment On, "sometimes I can't help but think to myself, So, that's what happened to me. Ha! It explains a lot." But getting through her first minutes in the world was just the beginning of her childhood struggles. Growing up in Canada, Twain and her siblings witnessed domestic voilence at the hands of her stepfather, often went hungry and even spent one summer living in a homeless shelter. Her aspirations to become a singer and songwriter helped her get through the tough times, but that dream nearly ended at 22, when her parents died and she had to move home to take care of her younger siblings. Still, Twain found meaning in the dark times. "I believe deeply that everything happens for a reason," she wrote. "We need the bad to appreciate the good, and vice versa." She took a job performing in a revue close to home, and eventually her luck changed. She landed a record deal, moved to Nashville, and fell in love with music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange. With Lange's guidance, she launched a crossover career that won her five Grammys, seven No. 1 singles, and the best selling country album of all time, 1997's Come On Over. The pair married in 1993 and had a son, but even though they lived in a castle in La Tour-de-Peliz, Switzerland, the romance was no fairy tale. In 2008 Lange asked for a divorce, the next day Twain found out he was allegedly having an affair with her best friend. "I really didn't ever want to love again," she says. But in what she calls a "beautifully twisted" turn of events, she ended up falling for - and marrying - the other woman's ex-husband, Frederic Thiebaud. "My closest friends and family say they haven't seen me this free-spirited and happy in years," she says. "And it's definitely true." Now, a reflective Twain, 45, has no regrets. "I am actually grateful for what I've gone through," she wrote, "and wouldn't change a thing - although I admit I wouldn't want to live it over again, either. Once was enough."

Shania Twain Forecasts a 'White Christmas' With Michael BublePosted Jul 20th 2011 10:15AM by Cory Stromblad / CommentsAs most of us suffer through the scorching heat of the summer months, Shania Twain turned to the studio in a festive mood, recording a duet of 'White Christmas' with pop crooner Michael Buble. The holiday collaboration between two of Canada's most successful musical exports will appear on Michael's Christmas collection, due out this holiday season. Regarding the new disc, Michael teases, "There's a couple duets that I really like, one with Shania Twain, which is really fantastic. We did it bouncy. I was inspired by 'Home Alone,' the Drifters." This marks the second high-profile duet for the country superstar this year. Shania provides the female vocals on 'Endless Love,' a reprise of the 1981 classic that will appear on pop icon Lionel Richie's upcoming country duets album. Darius Rucker, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Willie Nelson, Little Big Town and Jimmy Buffett have all been confirmed to appear on the collaborative collection. But it's not all duets for the global superstar. This year marks the reemerging of Shania as a solo artist as the singer-songwriter returned to country radio earlier this summer with 'Today Is Your Day,' her first single in six years. The track served as the theme song for the singer's OWN Network reality show, 'Why Not? With Shania Twain.' Very excited for both duets. Wasn't Shania supposed to record her own Christmas album back in like 2000, but it got cancelled? Hopefully one day she will record one. I wonder if she really is working on her 5th studio album though...

I think she should do a Christmas album before a new country album. I think her doing a Christmas album would be huge.

I think she should do a Christmas album before a new country album. I think her doing a Christmas album would be huge. Ehh, not so sure if that's a good idea. Her fans have been dying for a new country album for years. I would have her do the country album first to get her name back out there, then a Christmas album. If her comeback album was a Christmas album, I don't think it would sell well. By the way, I hope her new album is more country than pop. More "The Woman In Me"-type songs. I don't mind the pop feel, but I hope for a lot of banjo, steel guitar, etc.

It was great to see Shania tonight at CMA Music Fest, though I wish she was performing instead of introducing Sugarland. At this point, I doubt we'll see her live until her Vegas shows open.

Shania Twain Auctions Off Shoes That Caused Embarrassing FallBy: Billy Dukes | 6 hours ago What a good sport Shania Twain is! The singer is turning an embarrassing tumble into money for charity by auctioning off the high heels she was wearing at the CMT Awards in June. Twain memorably fell to her hip while walking to the presentation stage, but recovered gracefully. Current bidding is at $500 for the size six, autographed BCBG Max Azria high heels. They’re black satin with with a leather sole, and autographed on the inside of each shoe’s strap. A tassel is missing from the left heel. Proceeds go to her Shania Kids Can charity, which provides food and support to underprivileged kids in Canada through the school systems. After the slip, Twain joked that she’s proud she’s able to perform all of her own stunts. In a video to fans, she mentioned the idea of auctioning the heels off for charity. “I never want to see those shoes again,” she says. Competition for the footwear seems to be steep; 45 bids have already been placed for the auction, which began Monday and wraps on August 22. Twain appeared during Sunday night’s ‘CMA Music Festival’ special on ABC, but did not perform. Viewers got a look at what she’d been up to the last few years and the singer admitted to forcing herself to do some uncomfortable things. Falling on national television was likely not what she was referring to. Taste of Country Update: The current bid for the Shania Twain shoes is now up to $ 6,100.00.
100% of the proceeds are said to go to Shania's "Shania Kids Can" charity.
The auction will end on August 22.

This is kind of random, but does anyone know if there was ever a pop version of "Love Gets Me Every Time"?

This is kind of random, but does anyone know if there was ever a pop version of "Love Gets Me Every Time"? There are two dance mixes, I think. The mix on the International version of Come On Over would be considered the pop mix. It has no fiddle or steel guitar. And it has more electric guitar. Then there is also the Mach 3 remix, which is a alot more synthy and dancy.

I just bought the "Love Gets Me Everytime" single from eBay and it has the original version plus the dance mix, but it's not the Mach 3 remix.
I also bought the "You're Still the One" single which has the pop versions of the song (with and without intro) as well as "Mutt Lange remixes" of "(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here!" and "You Win My Love".
There's like 10 versions to every Shania song lol. I like switching between the versions though.

So I downloaded the International version of Come On Over from iTunes...I do like the different sound to it, but the only one I think I like better than on the original version is "Dont Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)".

Yeah they basically made new remixes for everything from COO when she went for her international releases. There is also another dance remix to DBS that is really great that was featured on the UK single.
On youtube there are some performances of the dance and pop mixes from her special TOTP in the UK.

Shania Twain turns 46 years old today. Here is a short 'Today in History' bio. on Shania: Today in Music History - Aug. 28The Canadian Press Sun, 28 Aug 2011 00:15:00 CST Share | in Music History - Aug. 28 In 1965, country singer Shania Twain was born Eilleen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ont. Growing up in Timmins, Ont., she began her music career as the headline vocalist in musical productions at a northern Ontario resort. Focusing on country music, she recorded a demo tape in Nashville in 1991 followed by her first album. But it was her 1994 followup, "The Woman In Me," that made Twain a major international star with more than 10 million albums sold and four Top 10 country hits. That album was her first with her producer, songwriting partner and now ex-husband Robert "Mutt" Lange. Twain's 1997 album, "Come On Over" was even more of a smash, with such hit tracks as "You're Still The One," "From This Moment On", "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman." By March 2000, that album was confirmed as both the best-selling album in country music history, and the best-selling album ever by a female artist. Twain has won several awards including Grammys, Junos and American Music Awards. Source / Google
The online auction of Shania Twain's infamous 2011 CMT Music Awards shoes has ended. After reaching as high as $ 1 million due to inflated bids, the Final Winning bid for the Shania Twain shoes was $ 9,000.00.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Shania Twain
By: Billy Dukes | 5 days agoHappy birthday to Shania Twain! OK, her birthday was actually on Sunday, August 28, but we've got a really good excuse for being late. Some of us were without power thanks to Hurricane Irene, so today we're wishing Twain a good year with a list of 10 things you probably didn't know about her. It's hard to believe the country superstar is 46-years-old this year. There's no doubt she's the most successful female country artist of all time. Her fans are itching for her to make a recording comeback, but for now it seems the only gift she has for us is a Las Vegas show that doesn't begin until 2012. At the CMT Awards earlier this year, Twain boasted about feeling more confident than she had in years. So Shania, if you're reading this, happy birthday. Treat yourself by having a little you time in the recording studio. 10. She once was asking, “Would you like fries with that?”In high school, Shania Twain no doubt uttered this phrase hundreds of times as she worked the counter at McDonald's. In 2002, she told Time Magazine that she learned about the meaning of service while spending time beneath the golden arches. To this day, she calls french fries the only junk food she'll touch. 9. We probably won't be hearing 'You're Still the One' at her 2012 Las Vegas concerts. Twain and former husband/producer Mutt Lange wrote the song in response to critics saying their marriage would never last. Less than a decade later, Lange's wandering eye proved to be the couple's undoing. It was the beginning of a dark time that Twain is unlikely to want to revisit. 8. Her stage fright once caused an embarrassing puddle. In her new memoir, 'From This Moment On,' Twain admits she struggles with stage fright. In fact, she once wet her pants in school, but covered the mess by spilling a glass of water. ''As far as the trumpet players on either side of me knew, the puddle … was nothing more than H2O!'' Twain writes. On the list of things the singer has overcome, this one seems pretty minor. 7. She wanted to be a rock star.In the mid-'80s, Twain insisted that she wanted to be a pop or rock singer, not country. In early 1987, she performed at the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation with Bernadette Peters. Somehow this show convinced her boyfriend/manager that she should steer her music towards country. Nine months later, her parents were killed in a car accident, putting all of her musical ventures on hold. In a 2005 biography, writer Robin Eggars explains how Twain cared for her siblings until they were old enough to move out in the early '90s. 6. She probably should have divorced Mutt Lange because of his nickname for her. Mutt Lange used to call his wife “Woody.” It was an affectionate nickname that derived from a hairdo Twain used to rock that reminded him of Woody Woodpecker. The producer was clearly the less physically gifted of the two, so perhaps he should have been a little more complimentary. “Goddess” or “Gorgeous” would have been more appropriate. 5. She enjoys a “rugged existence.” McDonald's wasn't the only hands-on employment Twain knew growing up. She also worked for her father's reforestation business. “I loved the feeling of being stranded,” she says in a 2005 biography. “I'm not afraid of being in my own environment, being physical, working hard. I was very strong, I walked miles and miles every day and carried heavy loads of trees. You can't shampoo, use soap or deodorant,or makeup, nothing with any scent; you have to bathe and rinse your clothes in the lake. It was a very rugged existence, but I was very creative and I would sit alone in the forest with my dog and a guitar and would just write songs.” 4. Her record label asked her to change her last name. Twain's birth name is Eilleen Regina Edwards, but her step-father, Jerry Twain, adopted her when she was 4-years-old. Mercury didn't think Eilleen Twain flowed well, so they asked her to change her last name. Instead, she became Shania Twain professionally (Shania is Ojibwa for “I'm on my way”), although she's still known as Eilleen in personal circles. It's difficult to imagine a country superstar named Eilleen, isn't it? 3. She was presumed dead on arrival. Twain shares that doctors gave up on her before she had a chance to take her first breath. In her memoir, she writes, ''While [Sharon, her mother] lies on the delivery table, the doctor quietly hands her a cigarette and lights it … She's delivered a blue baby, stillborn. Except, miraculously, the baby girl is alive!'' That quote is also a glimpse into birthing rooms in the 1960s. Doctors were lighting cigarettes for patients? 2. She's gone intergalactic.Twain's song 'Up!' was used to wake up astronauts, specifically Canadian astronaut Dave Williams in 2007. It's not the first time a Shania song has been blasted into the cosmos. In 2001, her hit 'Honey, I'm Home' woke up members of the Space Shuttle Atlantis crew. 1. Sean Penn was an early financial backer. It was only $100, but it came at a time the singer needed it most. Twain admits in her 2011 memoir that the actor contacted her to direct the 'Dance With the One That Brought You' video. The song, from her 1993 self-titled album, didn't do much, and it wasn't until two years later that 'Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under' became her first hit. ''I was embarrassed to receive a handout like that,” she admits. Taste of Country

I really wonder just how much of her old music she'll never bother with again because of the divorce. She doesn't really seem like the type that would let that stop her, but I guess we wont know until her Vegas show.
