1. Interlude - Twisted Elegance (0:42) 2. Velvet Rope feat. Vanessa Mae (4:55) 3. You (4:42) 4. Got 'Til It's Gone feat. Q-Tip & Joni Mitchel (4:02) 5. Interlude - Speaker Phone (0:54) 6. My Need (3:44) 7. Interlude - Fasten Your Seatbelts (0:19) 8. Go Deep (4:42) 9. Free Xone (4:59) 10. Interlude - Memory (0:04) 11. Together Again (5:02) 12. Interlude - Online (0:19) 13. Empty (4:32) 14. Interlude - Full (0:12) 15. What About (4:24) 16. Every Time (4:17) 17. Tonight's The Night (5:09) 18. I Get Lonely (5:17) 19. Rope Burn (4:15) 20. Anything (4:54) 21. Interlude - Sad (0:10) 22. Special/Can't Be Stopped (7:55) I can't believe this album didn't already have a thread, as opposed to her other efforts. IMO, she's got stronger songs from other albums, but as a whole this album her best. It is flawless and everything goes together perfectly. Singles: 1. Got 'Til It's Gone 2. Together Again 3. I Get Lonely 4. Go Deep 5. You 6. Every Time

This definitely had a thread, but it looks like half of the posts that were here are now gone. Heck, the "Album" header is gone now, too.
Anyway, this album is completely brilliant.

The Velvet Rope is kind of my everything.
'I Get Lonely' is my favorite Janet song.

My favorite album track is "My Need". Just love the vocal layering and the harmonizing. Well, I love "What About", too. $hit - the title track rocks, as well. Ok, you get the point! :)

It's a good album that has a very interesting concept and some amazing songs, especially during the first half, but enough of it falls flat or is just boring for me that it's not my favourite from her. I prefer 80s dance pop Janet.

Overrated. Good. But overrated. I pretty much echo Shears.

It's not my fav album of hers either. I actually prefer both janet. and Rhythm Nation to it.

I think it is excellent and the most cohesive Janet release. Not real fond of the last track, but the rest is quite good.

Overrated. Good. But overrated. I pretty much echo Shears. Alongside Rhythm Nation 1814, Velvet Rope is Janet's masterpiece.

I like Control, janet and RN 1814 more than I like TVR.

TVR is the only Janet album that I LOVE every song. There are a few songs off all of her others that I don't care for.

What's the problem here? lol As I said earlier, it's not a bad album. It just...drags. In other words, this: It's a good album that has a very interesting concept and some amazing songs, especially during the first half, but enough of it falls flat or is just boring for me that it's not my favourite from her.

It is the greatest album of all time imo.

I absolutely adore this album. Janet was SO "cool" with this album. She was so urban and real. It may not have had the radio material that her previous 3 albums had, but she made up for that with the content of the music. Too bad it all went downhill after this album.

It fits just fine in the string of four albums (1986-1997) that define Janet as an artist.
My least favorites on the album are "You," "My Need," "Rope Burn" and "Anything"- but I like the former two more than the latter two. Overall, though, I don't really dislike any tracks (excluding interludes), really, which is not the case for the albums that came after.

"My Need" is flawless, in my opinion. Great lyrics and those background harmonies! Love it when Janet layers those harmonies.

I really love this album too. It's one of my favorites along with Rhythm Nation 1814 and janet.
I like or love nearly all of the songs. Even the interludes (that "Speaker Phone" one was hilarious) were pleasant. They fit in nicely with the songs that came before/after them.
I was gutted that "What About" wasn't a single. Yes it was a really risky choice for one, but it would have made for an epic music video.

My Need is my fave non-single from the album. :) And I find What About somehow overrated. I don't think the chorus is all that... I think people love it so much because the live performance was RAW
Go Deep, in its turn, is the Janet track I have played the most.
