"Go Deep" is definitely hot. I like it much, much more now than when it was released.

I think the sex songs on this album (Anything, My Need & Rope Burn) are some of her best. I don't know how she managed to write & sing my fantasies so well, but she nailed it.

"Everytime" is the only track I consistently skip over .... Have you heard this remix by Jam & Lewis before? It turns it into a laidback House track.

The suite of Tonight's The Night-I Get Lonely-Rope Burn-Anything is just pure SEX! I just wish Every Time wasn't there to bog it down, and I wish even more Every Time had never been a single.
I can't rank Janet's 4 best album. They're all much better than a lot of stuff the came out at the same time and in subsequent years. Control, RN1814, janet., and TVR are just a four album suite of masterpieces, with the Scream-Runaway-Twenty Foreplay bridge that sits nicely in there too.
A4Y is good, but the 4 song sex suite drags down the album. I think Damita Jo is her strongest effort since her prime, but unfortunately it suffered from the "wardrobe malfunction."

Fitting that the 15th anniversary of The Velvet Bible falls on a Sunday.

Now when I listen to it, I mostly go to Rope Burn I get Lonely Velvete Rope - love violin parts by Vanessa Mae!
On the other hand, never liked Together Again

Listening to this again. Literally a flaw-free album, besides Free Xone which is a bit of a mess. But honestly, how one artist can make an album so cohesive, experimental in themes, sounds and harmonies is just :o Amazing.

I really go back and forth with this and Janet as my fav album from her, just like I go back and forth with Butterfly and Daydream for Mariah. I just love the theme and cohesiveness of this and how personal and dark it is.

The lyrics to "You" are just everything. This album is such a representation of any human being; if you live and breathe then you relate to this album. I'm thinking of getting the sankofa symbol tattooed on my forearm :)

So I have been listening to Janet's B-sides and unreleased tracks this week.
I think "Accept Me" should've replaced "Every Time" on this album and been the A-side to that single.

Nothing about this album should be changed. Nothing added or taken away.
I was upset this past week and "You" came on, and I realized it was exactly what I needed to hear. I feel like anytime I need an answer, I turn to this album, and I always find it.

This is by far my favorite Janet album, and it's even one of my favorite albums in my library. Every song is just so good.

I can't even put into words how amazing this album is. It is the greatest album of all time imo. I knew there was a reason I used to like you. Anyways, 1997 was an amazing year for all our divas. I didn't click with TVR immediately and wonder "what is she thinking?" when she premiered the video for GTIG on MTV VMAS, but many years later, when I began to enter adolescence, I revisited the album and it became something that was there for me when I needed it most. While it is not my favorite Janet album, that award goes to janet. , it is a close 2nd tie with RN1814. I can relate to every single song and all of the singles from this album were very strong, minus Everytime. I GET LONELY & GOT TIL IT'S GONE are two of the best R&B songs of all time. And TVR is one of the best R&B album's of all time. Thank you MISS JANET!!! Speaker Phone Interlude is everything to me.

What was the deal with GTIG? Was it really the official lead single or did they only release it to urban?

I've been revisiting Janet pretty hardcore, this album remains damn near flawless. Just an amazing record and the production holds up so well. I'm still upset that it didn't see the success of her previous efforts, but I completely understand why it didn't. Even the hidden track slays.
The only songs I usually don't get into are "Special" and her cover of "TTN." Both perfectly good tracks, but they're not on par with the rest of the album.

Amazing album. The only song I never really "get" is Free Xone (I appreciate the theme though)

This was my very first CD I ever owned. So many memories! I practically begged my mom for it! I'll admit that it's not terribly catchy as Control, RN, and Janet., but I definitely can identify with the theme and message the most on a personal level out of all her records. I could never really get into Rope Burn all that much. I'm always skipping it, but the rest are fine as wine.

Turns 20 years old today. Hard to believe it's been that long.
Because I love those isolated, layered bkg vocals:
