THere are tons of old songs that will be recurrent in the next 3 weeks (TBP, Chris, Luke, Toby, Brad, Hunter, Justin). If they just wait a few more weeks, this could easily be top 15 without having to jump over anybody.
Pulling the plug after "All Your Life" goes recurrent (maybe 1st week of March) would be a good idea. They can release the uptempo song just in time for start of spring.

Pulling the plug after "All Your Life" goes recurrent (maybe 1st week of March) would be a good idea. They can release the uptempo song just in time for start of spring. There are a few songs thats about to jump Scotty on MB...Lee Brice, Tim, and Miranda. This has already happened on BB. So a top 15 could be a little harder even with those drop offs. I would love to see it match ITLYB and hit at least #15. But like I said on an earlier post, I never expected it to get top 20 as slow as it was going. Its really started to hit its stride recently. Although I'm still not hearing it on our local stations during the day. Scotty was nominated for ACM new artist. This is a great opportunity for him to debut his new single on the award show, and show the entire industry and dedicated fans who watch the show that he is not just a balladeer like Mercury has made him out to be with back to back slow singles to start his career. Hunter is not going to out compete him or Brantley for this award. His sales aren't that great and his single took over 40 weeks just to peak at #14. Brantley could be stiffer competition. I know Scotty will get the fan side of the vote, but the industry half could be on Brantley's side. It'll be an interesting night to say the least. Scotty is recording the exit song for Idol this year that plays when people get voted off. Carrie did that one year as well. I just hope Mercury doesn't do something stupid and make whatever song it is the next single. On so many levels that would just be wrong. But the way Mercury missed an opportunity by not releasing an upbeat 2nd single, I don't trust them as far as I could throw them.

I liked Scotty on idol in the beginning but felt he was too similar week in and week out. Too slow all the time, and for them to release this as the first single following the winners single, bad move. Long term I think Scotty is going to struggle due to this beginning, he needs to really knock it out of the park with the 3rd single to turn things around I think

How many artists have won Best New Artist at CMAs or ACMs and then never turned into a big/headlining act? That would certainly be interesting if Scotty were to win at the ACMs (which I hope he doesn't, but think he will) and doesn't ever turn into a star.

I guess everyone's definition of star will differ, but both Joe Nichols and Gretchen Wilson won the Horizon Award at the CMAs. Julianne Hough won the Top New Artist award at the ACMs.

When the ACMs had Top New Male and Top New Female separately, several females won it that never made it big: Kellie Coffey, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Jamie O'Neal, Jessica Andrews, Michelle Wright, Shelby Lynne, Nicolette Larson, Gus Hardin, Karen Brooks, Terri Gibbs, Cheryl Poole, Cathie Taylor — heck, Cathie didn't even have a charted single! On the male side there are a few obscurities, and on the band side, several more.
Chely Wright (no relation) also won Top Female way the hell back in 1994 even though she didn't touch Top 40 until 3 years later.

"Julianne Hough won the Top New Artist award at the ACMs."
Yikes. Well, there you go.
I'm sure there are lots of politics. I actually think Mercury has done a fantastic job pushing Scotty- he's been everywhere. And even fans agree TTWG is not a good song, so they've pushed it up the chart quite well.
Brantley should get the ACM title, by any measure, IMO. Will the American Idol voting machine overcome the industry desire? It will be interesting!

This reached #17 this last week on Billboard, but I think that may be its peak. He's down over 200K in AI on Mediabase today, and is close to losing his spin bullet as well. Chris Young and Martina McBride will go recurrent ahead of him, but Carrie Underwood and the ZBB will blow right past him. Kip Moore could get ahead, too, but that's not a guarantee. This has probably done all that it will do, in terms of generating album sales and exposure, so having a new upbeat single for the summer makes sense to me.

He made it to #15 on MB, which tied his ILYTB peak there. I agree this song has done all it can do for him. It's gone Gold, top 20, and helped get CAD to Platinum. Now is when Mercury needs to start the push for the rest of the year. All indications are its going to be "You Make That Look Good" and I think it'll be sent to radio around ACM time and Scotty will also debut it there. That song will get him to the top 10 if any song off CAD will. Its a "peach pickers" song radio loves and its a great Spring/Summer jam tune to crank up in the car. Its a song a good number of recording artists coulda made a hit with and Scotty was lucky to find it. I can't say this about TTWG however, at least when it comes to getting his radio career further along. YMTLG will do that. And the sooner the better!

Found out YMTLG was written by the guy responsible for huge #1s like Luke Bryan "I Don't Want This Night To End" and Blake Shelton "Honey Bee" - two of my absolute favorites from the past year!! If YMTLG doesn't go top 10...nothing will. Hopefully another #1 hit for the "peach pickers".

Honestly I feel like the best bet at a hit would be "Out of Summertime" and then follow it with the amazing "Clear As Day".

I honestly don't know what everyone sees in "You Make that Look Good." I think it's awful, and I also think there are so many better single choices. "Out of Summertime" is a smash waiting to happen imo, and "Better than That" is in a league of its own if you ask me. If it ends up being released and smashes, great for Scotty and for the fans who love the song, but I just don't see the appeal.

Scotty's version of "Please Remember Me" is now at Amazon and ITunes. Wow his vocals are amazing on it. He hits notes in a range he didn't even do on the CAD album! For those of you on here who are fans I highly recommend buying it. No its not going to be a radio single, its the exit song on Idol this season. But it could make an impact on the Hot 100 from the sales alone as well as the Country digital charts.
"Out of Summertime" really would have been the perfect 2nd single rather than TTWG. The 3rd single will be the upbeat, rocking "You Make That Look Good". Its the song that he has been promoting very heavily. I expect it to climb at a much better rate than TTWG has cause it is more radio friendly, by far! TTWG is done, its only a matter of weeks til it'll be recurrent. Its finally losing ground this week fairly rapidly. Even as a fan I will admit I'm glad to see it go. "You Make That Look Good" is the new single and it will get him into the top 10!

Scotty really needs to release an upbeat, radio-friendly single, and I think "Out Of Summertime" would be perfect.

Well this fell of a cliff overnight, it should go recurrent this week or next. Hopefully YMTLG will have an official adds date later this month. TTWG nor IYLYB ever did, they were just sent for "immediate play."

"Water Tower Town" is the next single. He will perform it on Idol next Thursday and then on the ACM awards. It tested better at radio than YMTLG did. It should be released in early April.

And I find that ironic, because I feel like WTT is a weak song and won't do much for him on radio (aside from how he has already done, anyways). But I guess we'll have to see.

Its not my favorite of his upbeat songs, but radio loves "small town" songs. Apparently during CMS, UMG tested the 2 songs on alot of the radio people there one on one and WTT won by a landslide. I think it will have a better shot at going top 10 than his other 2 songs did. Maybe radio didn't want a 3rd song about girls by Scotty even tho YMTLG was written by the Peach Pickers. I always thought WTT woulda been a better 2nd single, but hey we'll see what happens with it now. Neither of Scotty's previous 2 singles will be played for years to come. WTT is a type of song that could work in any season and is catchy enough to become a recurrent staple eventually. Really if YMTLG wasn't going to be the single, this one is the better choice. There is always the 4th single for YMTLG or OOS if they want to keep with the upbeats then close out the CAD with the title track before releaseing a new album.

^I'm glad they went with this single. I'm probably one of the few that actually liked TTWG.

I'm happy with WTT. Like it better than YMTLG which I think is rather dull. Scotty opens with WTT on tour and states it's his favorite song. There's plenty of drinking songs out there for those who like them. This song fits him.
