I really like "Georgia Peaches," but I'm surprised it has struggled so much, considering Lauren has a VERY strong fanbase and the country music community has been very supportive of Idol alums in the past. I do feel like Lauren is still establishing herself as an artist, and she gets a little shouty in GP, IMO. But overall this is a really age-appropriate song, and I thought it was a great choice for the summer single.
This might seem crazy, but maybe radio was/is still hesitant to get on board just yet because Lauren is pretty much the first successful female country artist since Carrie? We all know there are only so many females radio is willing to support heavily, and perhaps Lauren doesn't stand out enough yet against the established stars, especially her Idol Carrie, who she has been tied to since the show.

I remember seeing jhomes mention awhile back that GP didn't have the best callout scores and it seemed to be very polarizing, and that may be part of the problem. I agree with the shouty comments; that's how I felt from the start. I like the song well enough, but it shows her lack of finesse as a vocalist that she'll likely be able to smooth out in the future w/ improved technique and skill as she matures.

Toopelow is not a catchy word for a song to be built around, for me. Haha, to each their own I guess ;) I think it's a neat name and a neat city. I like Lauren well enough but I'm not sure if she'll be able to ever get completely out from under the shadow of Scotty and also Carrie. I'm not even sure that Scotty will become a mega-star, though I think he has a better shot than she does, with him winning AI and all. Perhaps the inevitable re-structuring at Universal later this year could actually benefit someone like Lauren? It'll certainly be interesting.

Hopefully it can branch into the 20-30 range a little further. I don't see this being anywhere near as big as I originally pegged it to be, but I hope it can at least help her catch onto the Country radio radar a bit more. Releasing Like My Mother Does as the first single off of the platform that was Idol didn't help her situation at all. Had she released something a bit more radio-friendly (like this), I think she'd have done a lot better with the second single and album sales. She's still at a very respectable status right now with her sales and airplay, but I think that LMMD being pushed for so long really drowned things for her. I hope everything turns around quickly with this song, and if not, then they need to release Tupelo, Eighteen Inches, or She's A Wildflower for an attempt at a summer hit.

I went to a filming for CMT on Wednesday and Lauren sang 5 songs: Georgia Peaches, Tupelo, The Middle, I'm Not One Of Them and Dirt Road Prayer. So I would assume they're thinking of one of those for the next single, but who knows.

Put me down for Tupleo for the summer and Dirt Road Prayer in the fall/winter. I think those two songs back to back will give her about as much momentum as any combination of songs on the album can provide. There are actually several singles that I think could do at least as well as Georgia Peaches, though.
For those unfamiliar with the city, Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis Presley.

With the right singles, there's no reason the album can't at least reach Gold, which is very respectable. There are so many great single options, it's just a matter of promotion. At least one Top 20 should get her there, or close to it.

At least one Top 20 should get her there, or close to it. How much has it sold so far? I seem to recall it being fairly close, and I imagine that while it isn't still selling fairly high like Scotty's has been, its probably still moving pretty well for an artist with minimul radio attention thus far. Plus, she's been getting plenty of exposure, like with her AI performance just last week. EDIT: I found her totals, and at last week they were at just slightly over 250k, which is a little lower than I expected. But I can definitely see her going Gold eventually. It shouldn't be too hard for them to make that happen. I went to a filming for CMT on Wednesday and Lauren sang 5 songs: Georgia Peaches, Tupelo, The Middle, I'm Not One Of Them and Dirt Road Prayer. So I would assume they're thinking of one of those for the next single, but who knows. Tupelo is the only one of those that would make a solid third single. I feel like The Middle and Dirt Road Prayer, much as I love both (the ballads on the album are much stronger than most of the uptempos imho), would make little to no impact at all unless she gets more momentum going for her... and I'm Not One of Them is one of the weakest songs on the album. Not worthy of the single treatment at all.

They had her sing all the songs twice for filming purposes but she sang "I'm Not One Of Them" 4 times. (She messed up the words once.) But she was really into that one every time and so was the crowd, it's kind of a fun live song. Especially once you hear the story she introduces it with. But I don't pretend to have any idea what they're leaning towards for the next single.
I will say though, that I think Lauren sounds way better live than she does on her album. I was incredibly impressed by her. When she arrived at the venue she went in and put her stuff down and immediately came right back outside to talk to everyone, take pictures and sign things if people wanted. She stood out there for a while and took her time talk to everyone, making jokes, etc. She had Carrie's new single "Good Girl" stuck in her head so she kept belting it out while she was out there and she sounded absolutely amazing. And she's the nicest person you could ever hope to meet, so she definitely gained some points in my book that day, and I'm not generally a huge fan of female singers.

^I can vouch for how awesome a person Lauren is.
I went to a show of hers here in Nashville in the fall and my little brother is a big fan of hers and he asked if I could get her autograph for him. I didn't have anything to get signed other than my ticket stub, so when I was in line to meet her after the show, I called my brother and when I got up to Lauren I said "Lauren, my little brother loves you and..." then she cut me off by saying "What's his name" and held out her hand to take my phone. Then she talked to my brother on the phone for a good minute and it made his life. She is just the sweetest person.
And the little girl behind me, who I previously talked to and she said she met Lauren a few months ago after one of the Idol shows, went up to Lauren after me and Lauren remembered her name (from at least 3 months, and a dozen more Idol shows) and thanked her for coming out to another show.
I really love Lauren and I wish the best for her and her career. I do feel like "Like My Mother Does" was pushed too far. I think they should have just let that one fly and release an official lead single in the late summer (but I think the label felt obligated to push it and waited to release another single because Scotty's song was doing well). I do hope Georgia Peaches can make the top 20. I think it will be a long shot, but I hope she can pull that off at least. I'm afraid radio may not give her a third chance at a hit if GP can't go at least top 20.
I think "Dirt Road Prayer" is an awesome song, but I don't know how strong of a single it would be. I'd love for it to be a surprise hit like many of you are saying THTBM was, but Lauren is not at the level Miranda was when THTBM was released. I feel like "Eighteen Inches", "Tupelo", or "Growing Her Wings" would be the best choices as third singles (and then maybe DRP if she gets one of those to be a hit).
At first I thought "Georgia Peaches" was a great choice for the 2nd single, but now I think one of the 3 options I just mentioned would have been a smarter decision. I love GP but I doubt many guys, unless they already loved Lauren from Idol, drive around in their trucks and belt Georgia Peaches. It's pretty tailored towards only girls. And pretty much only girls from Georgia. So I can definitely see why someone may not like the song for any other reason than it's catchiness.

I think LMMD got to #36 or #37 so GP has outpeaked it.
It seems to be moving up slowly but it's hard to tell, with the country charts and newcomers these days a slow crawl up is pretty much normal.

It'd be months before this could hit the top 20. There's nothing separating it from the slow climbs of fellow newcomers Andy Gibson, The Farm, Casey James, etc. Lauren was at #28 last week, and she slipped a notch to #29 this week, being passed by The Farm, as no one went recurrent from up above. Lauren did gain 450k, which isn't too shabby...but it's a pace that won't get her to the top 20. She's only about 100k ahead of Dustin Lynch, and his song has been received favorably by radio--it's 10 weeks younger than "Georgia Peaches" is, so he'll likely pass her soon. Then there's a bit of a gap between Dustin and #31, Love & Theft, but it won't be long before Toby Keith and The Band Perry close that.

Little shocked, but this went recurrent from #30 this week..any chance to see it reenter? I suppose it's possible...but it already did once. Not that there's a rule that says it can't re-enter a 2nd time, but I'm guessing that the label will give up on this now. It was only down maybe 20-30k in audience through yesterday, but in today's update it dropped 331k. The reason why is because it slipped from #30 to #31 on Mediabase 2 weeks ago, and so this past weekend, it lost the countdown spins from Lon Helton's CC-USA, which resulted in the audience drop. Billboard saw fit to pull it. I can't really blame them...it had snuck up to #28, but Dustin Lynch, The Farm, and Love & Theft got ahead, plus the bigger name artists Toby Keith and The Band Perry. And there were a lot of songs in the 30-35 range really struggling to move up.

"Dirt Road Prayer" "18 inches" "Tupelo" "Growing Her Wings" and "Shes A Wildflower" would all be great choices for the 3rd single. Since Carrie cowrote "Wildflower" maybe that'd be a good choice and help with radio. It worked that one time for Pickler singing a Taylor cowrite on "Best Days." Just a thought.

^I don't think releasing "Eighteen Inches" for that reason would be a good idea.
I think "Tupelo" would make for a great single, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if there actually wasn't another single. Scotty's 3rd single is off to a very slow start, so I can't imagine what Mercury is thinking regarding Lauren.

And I don't think 15 adds for Scotty would be called a slow start. His last single only got 11 adds its first week out, 9 and 10 the following 2 weeks. So he's already ahead of where he was before at the start. We'll see how the adds add up the next few weeks before deciding how the start is going.

Sad to see GP struggle. I thought it would at least make top 25. On another note I hope either DRP or Tupelo is chosen as singles. I like eighteen inches, but I hope they do not release it. It would be different if Carrie wrote the song and Lauren didn't come from idol. Lauren needs to branch out from idol and her releasing a song Carrie underwood wrote will not be good or do her any favors with winning radio peeps over. I can hear radio now hyping up Carrie name on the song rather than Lauren singing the song. I think them releasing that song will keep reminding people she finished as runner up on idol. I still dont see eighteen inches as smash hit anyway. I just hope they pick the right single for her. She has a lot of potential hits and her album is really easy to listen to. I really would like to hear more music from her in the future, especially when she old enough to release more mature material. But this album is a good start and I really don't get why it is not gold, but I guess it may be because her singles haven't been catching on at radio.
I still think they made the wrong choice when they sent LMMD to radio. They should of not promoted that song to radio at all.

Disappointed and a bit surprised to see this go when it did. Too bad, as I feel like it was one of the better single choices they had on the album, and I kind of expected it to ultimately stick it out for Top 20. Oh well, hopefully they go w/ another solid radio cut like Tupelo, or (my personal favorite) Growing Her Wings. DNW Dirt Road Prayer -- that would flop.

I agree. If she had won then maybe there would have been more momentum for it but she didn't and they should have been able to start off fresh in the fall. Oh well, those are the breaks.

I think her next single should be one of these; "Eighteen Inches", "Tupelo", or, "The Middle".
Those three, in my opinion, have the best chances of doing well at radio. They're catchy, fun, and meaningful songs. GP was cute, but I honestly didn't have faith in it like I do these three songs. Since the label really isn't for promoting Lauren, it'll be up to her and the single to do the work. Therefore, they should release the song with the best chances of "hitting it big". If one of these singles does well, then I think "Dirt Road Prayer" or "The Locket" would be good single releases. Without her having a hit, those would flop, but if she's fresh off a major hit, the momentum could push either of those songs to be a hit too. Nevertheless, one of those first three I listed need to be released. They're her best shot of a true radio hit.
"Tupelo" would make a great Summer single, might I add. So catchy and fun. I could see it taking off fairly easily, to be honest.
