Sad to see this happen, but maybe the silver lining is a sped up timeline for a new single. I hope Georgia Peaches at least did enough to establish her as a presence on radio. Not a major presence, to be sure, but at the very least someone whose music deserves a chance to be heard. I think Tupelo for the summer would be good, but Dirt Road Prayer seems to be the song people love. CMT.com has some preview vids online for Friday night's "Listen Up" TV show. Lauren sounds the best I've ever heard her, particularly on Dirt Road Prayer.

"The Middle" would be my choice, followed by "Tupelo" and "Growing Her Wings." I also wouldn't be surprised to see the sassy and playful "I'm Not One Of Them" released.

I honestly think that "The Middle" could be huge.

With the poor performances from the singles she has released, I don't see there being another one released from this cd.

I didn't know so many people loved The Middle. Its one of my favorites on the CD, but I'm not sure it would be a good single choice at all. Appreciate all the love for it though, since I'm a big fan of it myself.

With the poor performances from the singles she has released, I don't see there being another one released from this cd. I think she may get one more shot at releasing another single. GP is selling decent with her minimum radio support. Here is her current sales for GP that was released today from idol chatter. Lauren Alaina, Georgia Peaches (11,000, +7%, 140,000)I think Georgia Peaches still had the potential to do well and sell better if radio supported the song more. I not sure what song mercury should of released, because it really hard to pick a song from her album because there is such a variety of different styles of songs. She got this country rock, country soul, and country pop feel to her album. It really comes down to preference and what song you think has the potential to do well. My personal favorite is Tupelo, so I hope it gets released at some point.

Oddly enough, iTunes sales have actually picked up the last couple of weeks. It was never a big seller there compared to several other tracks on the album, particularly Dirt Road Prayer, when the album was first released and before GP hit the radio. GP sold 11,000 this week and 10,000 last week. Probably the effect of the Sugarland audience, which I would think would be much more geared to Lauren's music than the Jason/Luke crowd.

We'll have to see if Billboard is feeling generous. On Mediabase, GP is up in audience by 260k so far this week. Typically, if a song gets yanked on Billboard, it will start dropping on Mediabase, but we haven't seen that with this song, which could indicate Mercury is still promoting it. As I said recently, I'm sure it only went recurrent on BB last week because of the loss of spins when it fell off Lon Helton's CC-USA (top 30); I'm guessing it's drop wasn't too big, but with the chart moving slow, BB decided to pull this one.
I don't know if it will re-enter just yet, or at all. I'm reminded of Uncle Kracker's "Good To Be Me" about a year ago, which went recurrent and stayed recurrent for a few weeks, but kept gaining small amounts and staying in the 4-5 million range on Mediabase, and eventually re-entered on Billboard and managed a top 30 peak. So, it is possible that "Georgia Peaches" could re-enter (again) on Monday's new Billboard chart, but I'm not necessarily counting on it just yet.

It lost 100K on Mediabase today. I'm not saying that the losses will necessarily continue, but I really doubt that we'll see it back on the Billboard chart this week.

^Yeah, it was doing ok until today's update. It lost 67 spins as well, causing the bullet to go down to -65.

They should just throw "Dirt Road Prayer" out there and hope for a hit... I think it could work.

I wish there would be another female artist surge like there was in the 90s. At one time it seemed it was almost harder to break a man thru than a woman during the middle of the decade. It'll happen again one day but not anytime in the next few years.
As for Lauren, DRP always has stood out to me but radio is so ultra picky about women right now she could release anything and it'll be tough for her. Thank God Carrie made it thru the door as it was shutting.

It's all about the songs. If Lauren had "Why Ya Wanna," she'd be doing very well too. I couldn't disagree more. Plenty of good songs don't do well. I think Lauren would've had a chance at being a superstar if she would've won Idol. Nothing against Scotty, but there are already several male superstars--he's doing pretty good, but the industry doesn't really need another male superstar at this point, with Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, and Eric Church all ascending the ranks recently, and numerous other mega-stars and up-and-comers like Jake Owen, Jerrod Niemann, Brantley Gilbert, Easton Corbin, etc. I think if Lauren got the edge and was the winner of Idol, then radio would've embraced her. As it is now, I don't think country radio is too keen on playing everyone that comes off American Idol, especially when there are many, many other singers and singer-songwriters working hard to break through, and none of them had the benefit of being exposed to millions of viewers. I'm a fan of Carrie and Kellie, I like Lauren and Scotty well enough, and I think Casey James' debut album is very strong...but country radio can't be expected to take 1-2 "country" artists from AI each season and support them fully while simultaneously playing the country Idol alums. I think that that's what is holding back Scotty and Lauren a bit--they both came from the same season, are on the same label, and plus, they're both so young and haven't had to work as hard to get to where they are. Jana has a good song, no doubt, but she's got the looks and the voice too and I don't think you can really compare her to Lauren since they come from different places.

While "One Tree Hill" is not American Idol, Jana has played a struggling singer/actress on that show for 3 years now. It just aired its final episode a couple weeks ago. She has played music on that show that will be on her album. So she really came from TV in a way too.
Heres one of them
Country radio hasn't "fully embraced" anybody from Idol other than Carrie and Josh Gracin (although they gave up on him). By embrace I mean given them enough spins to get into the top 10. Kellie Pickler barely squeaked in her due to the Taylor connection. Kelly Clarkson so far has only made it on duets, but the jury still is out on her solo work.

JMO I like Georgia Peaches quite a bit but I don't think it's as much of a song that radio likes as much as "Why Ya Wanna." "Georgia Peaches" is a bit aggressive.

I can see what rsmatto is saying. I remember reading on here that the callout scores for Georgia Peaches tended to tip towards the negative. It seemed to be a pretty polarizing song.
That said, I don't think she would've taken Why Ya Wanna higher than Jana Kramer has been thus far. Its just not the same case.

Callout scores aren't completely indicative of what radio is gonna play--they're a pretty small sample of urban areas and don't usually hit what the core demos really "want". I think they affect what radio plays to some extent, but it's not measurable. And besides, a song can have good or bad callout scores, but it's up to radio.
And actually, for what it's worth, "Georgia Peaches" vaulted from #26 to #17 on the Bullseye chart this week (Monday's BB chart), while "Why Ya Wanna" is at #34. Alan Jackson's "So You Don't Have To Love Me Anymore" is at #1 but it's floundering on the airplay chart. Last week's #1 (and this week's #3) is the Zac Brown Band's "No Hurry"--now there's a group that always does extremely well in callout research.

Have to admit I'm not familiar with the Bullseye chart. Can you explain what that is?

Have to admit I'm not familiar with the Bullseye chart. Can you explain what that is? The Bullseye Callout chart is a weekly survey published in each Billboard Country Update. I believe it is a phone survey, but don't quote me on that. Here's the little description from the BCU: The Callout America sample is 450 persons in each weekly report. Sample is 50% Male/Female and taken from 20 U.S. Markets. Demos are evenly balanced in 18-24, 25-34, 35-44 and 45-54 cells. Song scores are on a 1 to 5 differential with “1” meaning strong dislike and “5” meaning like it a lot. The positive index is an average of all 1 to 5 scores. Total Positive is the combined 4 and 5 scores.

^^ Yes, it's a phone survey. The Radio Feedback chart is compiled from online survey results. :)

Credit & thanks to adwem for the news:
While signing autographs for fans by the Opry this week, Lauren confirmed that her next single will be Eighteen Inches. Perfect selection! Not betting on anything huge for the song, but maybe having Carrie Underwood's name as a co-writer attached to the song could help it out in some way, shape, or form.

Very smart move; I had a feeling it'd be a single somewhere down the line. I wasn't impressed with her first two singles at all, even though GP was slightly better than LMMD for me.

She said that would've been her choice too but it is too long for radio.

Awesome! Glad they are gonna at least try with a third single! I think "Eighteen Inches" can do at least as well as "Georgia Peaches" did, hopefully top 20 too. I think "18" is one of the safer choices for a single ("Tupelo" would have been the best choice though, imo). "Dirt Road Prayer" is an amazing song, I just think releasing that would have been too risky for this point in Lauren's career.
But as my favorite song on her wonderful debut album, I'm glad this is getting released! (Plus Carrie will get a little extra $$$ from royalties for the co-write ;))
