Despite having a forgettable era, this is arguably their best album. I enjoy this album A LOT more than "ROCK STEADY."
Some of my fave tracks:
1. Ex-Girlfriend 3. Bathwater 9. Too Late 12. Staring Problem 13. Home Now

I agree on it being their best album. Magic In The Make-Up

Flaw free album. I was so upset that Too Late wasn't a single, it's one of their best songs.

This is the first No Doubt album I bought. I'd just turned 13 and it was perfect, I loved it to bits. Still remains their favourite of mine. Incredible opening: 1. Ex-Girlfriend 2. Simple Kind of Life 3. Bathwater (especially)

Lots of gems here. My favorite song on the album is 'Bathwater'.

This is No Doubt's best album, and probably my favorite album of all time. I remember I ignored it for a while because it wasn't as fun as Tragic Kingdom, then I came back when I realized the depth of this album, lyrically and musically. It truly is a masterpiece.

Flaw free album. I was so upset that Too Late wasn't a single, it's one of their best songs. I never understood why it wasn't a single, either. They also had that beautiful piano instrumental too. Maybe it was intended to become a single, but since they weren't doing too well, they decided to move on to the next project.

As likable as Tragic Kingdom was, it never really struck a huge emotional chord with me like many others (in fact, it's my least favorite ND album on the whole - including the underrated s/t). For me, this had the group's best songwriting. It didn't merely have songs I found pleasant, but songs I found to be great. Gwen has lots of depth to share on this one.

"Simple Kind of Life" is one of their most over-looked songs!

Better than Tragic Kingdom overall. Not quite as great as Rock Steady.

Yes, their best and most underrated. Everything from "New" to the end is flawless.

I still wish The Neptunes remix of "Magic's In The Makeup" would surface. Was supposed to be on the Bridget Jones soundtrack but was scrapped. Beenie Man was featured.

I love the singles, but as a whole, this never really clicked with me.
"Simple Kind of Life" and "Bathwater" are among my favorite No Doubt songs.

The singles are all amazing. It's definitely a step up from Tragic Kingdom, but not as consistent as Rock Steady IMO.
This album always came off like they were trying too hard to be taken seriously. Which is okay, but the album overall is too labored and overworked. They work better in a looser context like RS.

Why did this album and singles do so poorly? "Ex-girlfriend," "Simple Kind Of Life" and "Bathwater" were all good songs with good videos. (SKOL in particular is my favorite song of theirs.) Did "Bathwater" even chart anywhere? I remember seeing that video a lot on VH1 but never on any chart I followed at the time
