I liked "Colours" better, but this isn't bad either. Thanks for IDing the song, though--I'd heard it in the Apple commercial, but didn't know it was them. (commercial:)

I prefer Colours, I was actually pulling for Chloe to be the next single, but i can see how this had the perfect sound for an itunes commercial....probably the reason i don't love it as much, I find I can't get into songs that I keep her snippets of in commercials.
I'm sure I'll end up liking it, but after a few listens, it's really just a poor man's Cobra Starship. I used to be captivated by most of the songs Apple chose for their iTunes promotion. Or really anything promotion. Now it's just "Yeah, they would pick that song for that".
May: 30 Seconds To Mars, Alice In Chains, The Boxer Rebellion, Eisley, Eve To Adam, Middle Class Rut, Mindless Self Indulgence, Pop Evil, Vampire Weekend, The Wonder Years
June: The Almost, Barenaked Ladies, Beady Eye, Black Sabbath, Boysetsfire, Capital Cities, City And Colour, Filter, Goo Goo Dolls, I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business, Jimmy Eat World, The Maine, Megadeth, Portugal. The Man, Queens Of The Stone Age, Skillet, The Transplants
Cobra Starship? That's a really strange comparison to make after you just called me out for the Katy Perry/Kimbra one.
Hey, sorry for not expanding upon this sooner. But the thing that bugs me about all these teeny-rock acts like Cobra Starship, Hot Chelle Rae, We The Kings, Breathe Carolina, etc. is that they all sound precisely like you would expect a group like that to sound today. There's nothing to any of these songs, but they get away with that because they find away to make catchy hooks in the most simplistic ways possible. For instance, I hardly know any of the words to Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight Tonight", but it's OK because I do remember all the parts where they say "la la la". They did exactly what they needed to do to score a pop hit.
And that is just how it is with "Tongue Tied"...doing exactly what they needed to advertise for iTunes. You could see it from miles away; it's so predictable. They even let Hot Girl sing a verse too, like Cobra Starship always does for the Fergie effect.

While I get what you're going for in auditory comparison, I think that, lyrically, "Tongue Tied" and Cobra Starship (etc.) fare are miles apart. And this is not to say that one is inherently better, because "Guilty Pleasure" is a huge, well, guilty pleasure for me, and I own a Hot Chelle Rae album. And while I don't claim "Tongue Tied" is particularly deep, I do think it does a nice job of capturing an emotion and situation that, while common, is not often the focus of a song as opposed to being a supporting element that is glossed over. And I appreciate that in a way I couldn't quite say I appreciate the works of the other artists you mention, despite the fact that I acknowledge and accept the sonic premise you've set forth. That's what makes me take "Tongue Tied" a bit more seriously than some of the offerings of Hot Chelle Rae, Cobra Starship, Breathe Carolina, etc.
I haven't heard this enough to get tired of it. But I do get the same vibe from this song that I do from much of what CHR plays these days - it's fun and catchy in small doses, but not something I'd want to listen to over and over again. I'm glad this is petering out, because while I'm generally happy with the direction in which the format has been going, I'd hate to see it start getting dominated by songs that are *this* poppy. That said, I'm also kind of mad that this cockblocked "Colours", which has really grown on me.

Now that this is playing regularly on the Pop/Top 40 station that I've been hearing at work over the last week, I realized how easily I got tired of this song. "Colours" is so much better and now I've noticed how lame it really is lyrically.
