^ Nope, it's #2. It's been #2 since it dropped from #1 after the second day. iTunes froze 3 days ago and it had already dropped to #21, sometimes we get updates by changing the link and its' been around #20 the last couple of days. It fell pretty quickly.

'Safe & Sound' is so fucking haunting. I love this song. Hearing "Enchanted" during The Vow trailer in the movies this weekend just made me want it released even more. Come on Taylor! Yup, ugh. Please...

Yeah, I see that now. It makes sense, though. It's not really the kind of song that usually does well on iTunes. And the Hunger Game fans and Taylor fans are going to buy it right away.

From the Billboard article: The highest debut on the Digital Songs tally this week is Taylor Swift's "Safe & Sound" (featuring the Civil Wars), which enters at No. 19 with 136,000. The song was released digitally on Dec. 23 -- meaning that it starts on the list with only two days of sales. Expect the track to make a big jump on next week's list after a full week's sales are registered.

Finally bought "Safe & Sound." I'll admit, when I first listened to the clip, I wasn't sold; it was a little boring and lifeless to me honestly. But after a few more listens, I'm hooked, and I think it's only going to grow on me more. I love the lyrics and I especially love the way she sings the second chorus. If I'm being honest though, I hope this isn't where she's headed with her fourth album. This is a nice surprise but in all honesty, I don't think the song really holds much of a candle to the majority of songs on Speak Now.
That said, Speak Now was a grower and is now probably my favorite Taylor album. We'll see what happens with this song.

Speak Now is definitely her best album, it's immaculate. 'Safe & Sound' is definitely just as good as most if not all of the songs on it though. I feel like she's definitely turning into a great musician.

Today she released a new version of Long Live with the brazilian singer Paula Fernandes. Here in Brazil, it's already #9 on iTunes. I don't know if it was released on USA.

BREAKING: TAYLOR SWIFT OFFERED EPONINE IN TOM HOOPER'S LES MISERABLES At the end of November word came out that director Tom Hooper was auditioning a number of women to play the role of Eponine in his upcoming film adaptation of the musical Les Miserables. Among those who auditioned were reportedly Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, Evan Rachel Wood and singer Taylor Swift. Twitch has now learned that Swift has emerged as Hooper's choice for the part and has received an offer for the role from producers at Universal. Should she accept she will be joining Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen and Anne Hathaway with Amanda Seyfried also offered a major part. twitchfilm.com/news/2012/01/breaking-taylor-swift-offered-eponine-in-tom-hoopers-les-miserables.php:o

BroadwayWorld.com is confirming the news. There will be a LOT of cynics over this, so I hope she can pull it off.

Wow, that could take her to an even higher place in her career. She will get A LOT of flack though, bet on it. I would be interesting to hear her on On My Own.

She's gonna butcher it Her voice is nothing at all like the styling of the music in Les Miz, and no amount of auto-tune can fix that. I really hope she backs out before embarrassing herself. This isn't something that needs to be in her career plan..

^ She obviously auditioned with a song, and they wouldn't have offered her the role if she wasn't able to pull it off in her audition.

She must have done something right in her audition to get this role.

^ Orrrrr they just want to make a lot of money of the fangirls. I love Taylor to death, and don't believe she'd get herself into something she's not capable of, but this could go either way.

Eh, I see your point but I don't think that's it. I mean yes, it didn't hurt, but this is directed by Tom Hooper who won the Best Director Oscar. The studio is banking on this being another Oscar contender and casting someone who they didn't fully believe could pull off the acting and singing required for the part wouldn't help those chances. 62 30 32 34 SWIFT*TAYLOR SPEAK NOW 16,769 -65 48,504 3,927,737 6 21 30 70 SWIFT*TAYLOR SPEAK NOW WORLD TOUR LIVE 10,734 -78 49,716 250,818 164 113 89 83 SWIFT*TAYLOR FEARLESS 9,328 -51 19,029 6,468,704 6 140 128 119 SWIFT*TAYLOR TAYLOR SWIFT 6,395 -50 12,702 5,143,484 10 14 31 53 SWIFT*TAYLOR THE HOLIDAY COLLECTION 3,567 -70 12,020 880,575 5 137 160 164 SWIFT*TAYLOR BEAUTIFUL EYES 2,143 -52 4,422 277,567 Total: 16,948,885 albums sold Speak Now should pass 4 million in a few weeks, and always nice to see updated numbers for Beautiful Eyes. 'Ours' is selling pretty damned well, it'll probably outsell 'Sparks Fly' in the longrun and could go platinum.

I'm kind of inbetween right now. I was super excited (and completely shocked) at first. Because I never even thought she was a legitimate contender. Despite the naysayers, I think Taylor has a beautiful voice, but a belter she is not. But I figured if the Oscar winning director that chose her for the role thought she was the best fit, than she must me. And if this whole thing goes well, it would be AMAZING for her. To have this kind of role in a potentially Oscar winning film.
And lets be honest, Taylor doesn't need to do this. Her music career is going just fine. She has a highly-anticipated album to work on that'll be out by the end of the year. So she must think she can do it too.
But then I thought, even if she does it the best she can and the way the director wants it, it's still not going to be like the Broadway version. So she'll still get hate for it. So, I don't know. I hope they mix up the character/songs enough to allow her to shine.
At least expectations are low. Which will only make it that much sweeter if she actually goes in there and kills it.

She's coming for that Oscar! Get it girl! This is amazing. Haters to the left.
This will solidify and cement her status as an A-lister.

This isn't something that needs to be in her career plan.. Yeah, 'cause Amanda Seyfried and Russell Crowe are known for their Mariah Carey like voices! The producers of the film know that they need a box office draw. Hathaway, Crowe, Seyfred, and Jackman are not exactly getting big movie box office crowds anymore. People will respond to Taylor!!!

Taylor Swift will easily attract more people to the movie than Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood would combined making it seem like a logical choice. Don't know what this movie is but from reading the other posts I'm assuming she'd play a role with a big singing voice (belter)? I'll wait to judge but for now consider me extremely apprehensive.

I understand what they're trying to do by bringing huge stars to the production, but this isn't exactly Mamma Mia--the singing in Les Miz is much more demanding. And star power didn't exactly help Nine. I'm gonna stop now--I don't mean to bring so much negativity into this thread. I'm interested to see how this will all turn out.

I'm not really concerned with the criticism of her casting. It's something she's been dealing with since the beginning of her career and something I think she'll always have to contend with, but she has always overcome it.
I'm pretty confident that is she accepts the role (I believe it's only been confirmed that she has been offered the part?), she'll do so because she thinks she can handle the role and do it justice. She is far too savvy and astute to throw herself into something that she could never pull off.
Also, I don't really see a director like Tom Hooper offering a role to someone who is completely wrong for a part just to bring in some more viewers. Seems like a very misguided opinion to take up without any real reason.

And this isn't "Valentine's Day" (or "The Lorax"). They're not going to cast people just to get big box office numbers. This movie has Oscar potential...
Also, it's not like they gave her some small part. She's one of the stars. Stars of a movie can make or break a film. And I don't know too much about Les Mis, but from what I can tell she's a lot of people's favorite female character.

Looks like she'll be up to 20 gold singles soon (13 or 14 of them being platinum/multi-platinum).
Yeah, Eponine is the Les Miz female role that won a Tony Award, and in the recent revival is the only female role that got a Drama Desk nom. So hopefully she accepts the most award-y role.
