It sort of proves that while everyone mentions how she needs to be on Letterman more or whatever, that a good old fashioned discount does the trick better than most anything else.
Stumbled upon this interview from awhile ago where Kelly somewhat confirms that "Dark Side" will be performed on Idol.

Lets hope she actually does it. A performance on this season's finale using the same tour intro would make a HUGE impact all around the blogs and music publications.
While using the tour intro wouldn't surprise me, she sort of already did that with the MKIA AMA performance, so I'd like her to use imagery from whatever music video they come up with. They've gotten really good mileage out of this whole press vs. Kelly angle this era, but I'd rather them not totally beat it into the ground.

It's a pretty powerful intro and it'd get people talking. Only tour assistants and casual fans (via youtube) have got to see it, I think it'd make a big impact with the general public, so it's worth it. I really doubt that many people would make the connection between the AMAs intro and the Dark Side's intro, only fans would be able to match those two performances.
I really believe her singing so many covers is getting the attention of many producers out there. She’s taken some songs to different levels. If I were a songwriter/producer, I’d want a concoction of her voice, my song, and a killer production. I hope this speaks for the quality of her final album under her current contract with RCA. I just need her to cover some Lady Gaga/Beyonce. She’s covered all of her other contemporaries thus far and given justice or surpassed them. Can they do the same with her music? I’d like to see them try.
There have been so many and varied covers this tour and they've gotten so much press that I'd have to think that's the case. Of course, if you're a big producer with a good track you're looking to record, you might make more money with someone like Katy or Rihanna, and money talks. But there has to be some appeal to working with a great vocalist who can just take the music to the next level.
MKIA Total Sales: ~270k Stronger (single) - #26 - Up 1. ~13k copies sold. Total sales ~297k Stronger (album) - #61 - Down 16. ~2.8k copies sold. Total sales ~172k
Kelly has sold ~739k singles and albums so far this era in the UK.
The albums drop isn't too much of a concern. It's sales only dropped by ~200 copies but because sales are close in the mid-lower end of the album chart, it meant it dropped by quite a few places. However, there were also 10-12 new enteries ahead of it, which would explain the majority of its drop.

It's also kind of out of date now. The leaks were eons ago, her weight thing isn't so much an issue, she isn't single, she's had her most successful single and album in eight years etc. It feels triumphant and relevant with the Mr. Know It All video and on tour, but drudging it all up on TV seems a little past her. I do get the point that it would make for a killer performance though.
I think they could be really artsy with the "Dark Side" video--- a homage to Kelly's past (her family problems that inspired "Because of You") would be particularly touching. I love the idea that her dark side is the same dark side her parents had--- she's begging them not to run away even though she is having problems trusting him because of her past and her family. I loved that "Because of You" wasn't another breakup song, that it truly came from somewhere Kelly in particular could deeply relate to. Just a thought.

I agree. I hope they make a stunning and touching video that rivals Hazel Eyes and Because of You. Her videos of the last two eras have been good, but not great. Her concepts are always thoughtful and creative, she just needs to hook up with a good director (It's a shame Joseph Kahn seems to be out of the picture)

I totally agree with this. Her videos since IDNHU have been pleasant, but nothing I want to go watch over and over again. I would love to see a video in the vein of NA, BTHE, and BOY quality wise. Now that the higher powers at RCA are on better terms with her, and hopefully willing to giver her a bit more artistic control, I would love to see her team up with Josheph Kahn again!!! His problem had nothing to do with Kelly, and all to do with the label micromanaging him. I still would love to see a Director's cut of AG because it felt like there was so much more to it.
I felt MKIA was pleasant but totally unmemorable, and Stronger had a good concept but the quality and lack of dance skills in the fan submissions ruined it for me. I have much higher hopes for Dark Side, and coming after a profitable smash like Stronger, I'm hoping they giver he a bigger budget than the last two.
I feel like each one of her videos since "Never Again" has been really lacking in spirit and Kelly's charm, if that makes sense. Not only that, but the quality has been suffering. I know they don't have a big budget, but they don't really know how to manage having a low budget with making a video. For example, "Because of You" is a spectacular video. However, there isn't really anything extravagant to it. I don't know what the budget was for it, but it doesn't seem like it was very costly to make; all they did was run around a house, basically. At the same time, though, it was a quality video. The "Dark Side" video doesn't have to use special effects like the "E.T." or even "Don't Waste Your Time" videos, but they need to learn how to balance their budgets. If they think that the only thing they can accomplish with their budget is a cheap-looking video, then that's what is going to be made, but if they focus their efforts and try to make the best use of their money, then they'll actually make something worth watching.
Look at the "Firework" video. Sure, it had some fireworks shooting out of Katy's chest, but it doesn't seem like it would cost a lot to make. Most of the stars and extras in it were fans that Katy had a contest for them to be involved in the video, so they weren't paid.
I'm sure a huge portion of the budget for her best video--"Because of You"--went to the director himself, Vadim Perelman, who was coming off the very successful and beautiful film, The House of Sand and Fog. They also had some great actors for that music video that played more substantial roles than most of her other music videos.

This is one of the best idea's I've read on this forum. Great chance to explore Kelly's (and a lot of people's) past, and demonstrate how those events shape who we are, including how we act in relationships. It encapsulates the essence of the song, and essentially Kelly's entire message this era. Yes.

But now that you've mentioned it...it would be great for them to get the same director to do the Dark Side video...
She did E.T. and Fighter which are both marvelous pieces of work.

Eh I'm not a big fan of ET. Fighter is a cool video though. I'd rather see something along the lines of BTHE, NA, or BOY. I've enjoyed all of Kelly's recent videos but the last one I loved was MLWSWY. I really hope DS is as good as her videos used to be because it deserves it!

I'm sure we all would love to see something along those lines but seeing as how Joseph Kahne is permanently out of the picture Floria Sigismondi is all we got.
I really need Dark Side to be beautifully done. I need tons of imagery and artistic visuals in this that it makes me want to cry forever.
I'm not here for the ET video or anything like it. Once you saw the first 45 seconds of that video, you saw it all. Substance over style please--though hopefully this will have both.
I'm just a sucker for concept videos. I think they speak to a lot more effort and time put into the project than a lazier video (like "Mr. Know It All", which in essence was basically Kelly singing at a camera the entire time). It's why "Since U Been Gone", "Never Again", "Hazel Eyes", "Because of You" and even "Life Would Suck" are her strongest videos in my opinion--- they grab the essence of the song and add in a bit of dramatic flare to make the whole experience worth it.
I think they dropped the ball with the "Stronger" video by A, picking poor fan-made dances and B, releasing it randomly a month before the adds date. Were it released at the peak of "Stronger"'s hype and buzz, it might be a different story. I want "Dark Side"'s video to be a crucial part of the song's success (like "Because of You") because I think it's a song that lends itself well to dramatization.
MLWSWY was her last video that hit all the marks for me, it came together really nicely and suited the song perfectly. I loved the way she looked in the performance scenes, it was classic Kelly.
The MKIA and WDKY videos, while they incorporated some cool and refreshing elements (wall of doubt, flash mob), they just weren't very good overall. They lacked plots and looked somewhat cheap and low-budget at times. As great as this era has been so far, the videos have definitely been lacking for me. As much as I want that to change for the Dark Side video, I don't think it will be anything special, unfortunately. Videos just don't seem to be Kelly's strongest area anymore.
But this era has shown it is capable of anything, so I'd love to be proven wrong.
from the sounds of these tweets Kelly was doing something for Duets on Sun. and Mon.
