^ Doesn't change the fact that they just copied those songs You can't answer my original question: What's Korean about 'K-Pop'? I'm very familiar with Asian pop culture and I know that many Korean artists have ripped off Japanese songs. You know a group named "Big Bang"? Here is the song that made them successful and the beat is a ripped off of the song by a Japanese artist "FreeTEMPO". "LIES" - Big Bang "Sky High" - FreeTEMPO

^ lol care to explain how it's copying? Bonnie McKee sang the demo version of 'Hold It Against Me', does that mean Britney 'copied' it? No. Demos are done as guide versions for the recording artists who are releasing the song officially, and Ke$ha's Run Devil Run was merely that, done before her debut. And probably used by the group as their guide when recording.
And this group's record label has the official rights to Genie, which they won months before the official release of the song, so any other versions would instead be the copies. That Uzbekistan singer recorded it without the writers' knowledge. How is that copying again?
Songs are made and sold, bought by record labels, for their artists. That is what happened here.
As for Big Bang, even Free Tempo has stated that Lies was more of a sampling, rather than outright copying.
If it were really 'copied' like you said, it would have been a much bigger issue.
Please do your research properly, or at least try to understand what the word 'copying' really means.
What's Korean about K-Pop? Maybe the fact that it's sung in Korean, by Korean people, released in Korea, for the Korean public? Music is universal. There's always influences from different places in music.

Maybe the fact that it's sung in Korean, by Korean people, released in Korea, for the Korean public? Music is universal. There's always influences from different places in music. Big Bang's G-Dragon ripped off the piano chords and the beat from FreeTempofs "Sky High". That's a fact. He never stated that gLiesh is a sampling of "Sky High" when it was released in Korea. FreeTempofs management did state that the arrangement and the overall vibe sounds very similar. But it didn't become the big issue because FreeTEMPO is an indie artist and it's just not worth for him to fight or to demand for a legal lawsuit. Anyway, FreeTEMPO >>>>Big Bang. Oh, and the term K-POP IS a copy of the term J-POP. You don't call German Pop "G-POP" or Australian Pop "A-POP". What I don't like Korean pop culture is that they tend to rip off other people's work/idea and pass it off as their own. In other words, they kill their own identity by themselves and that makes them hard to innovate new product by themselves.

OMG.
Girls' Generation is about to smash the international chart.
Run Devil Run is a Kesha demo that never got released. Maybe GG's label bought the right.
i wish GG would release the english version of GEE rather than the boys. This remix of boys is awful.

I think stylistically a group like 2NE1 has a much better chance at success in Western markets than these girls. The whole cutesy, nasal voice shit that audiences eat up in Asia would be universally derided here. SNSD seems to be moving away from that but it's still going to hinder them.

I'm sure if 2NE1 ever release anything in US, people here will call them Gaga wannabe or Gangsta wannabe. But if they change their looks, then i'm sure they will be accepted.

Boy bands I can see happening.. but J-Pop.. never. Especially since Utada Hikaru couldn't break through with very friendly R&B style music.

I agree than 2NE1 and that song would be the only thing I could see working in America. I hate whatever this is.

If BoA and Utada couldn't do it with far superior songs, then GG has no chance with this.
Sorry.

GG has the same chance than BoA and Utada. It's about luck and i'm sure GG has their lucky charms.

That performance above was pretty amazing tbh, and somehow made the song a bit more tolerable.
