Thanks for all the data, 2m. I'm curious as to how many of the other 34 albums to have 45 weeks in the top 10 did so with their first 45, rather than bobbing in and out like the more recent entries like The Fame or Fearless.
Here's something interesting: both of those lists you posted have 35 entries. With the coming chart, she'll move into 28th place for weeks at #1, and 32nd for weeks in the top ten.

The Re-Up is not a big catalog album I have 970K as of May 2007 It's not an Eminem album in any capacity either. It' similar to how Eli Roth's 'Hostel' was marketed as "Quentin Tarantino presents..."

Is there no year end top 200 soundscan? Even though we've been steadily getting the weekly numbers?

those are hard to come by. We have estimates if you need them but someone will have to find the official one
Sometimes it shows up in the magazine too

Most weeks at #1 1956-present 54 WEST SIDE STORY SOUNDTRACK is it because you add multiple charts ? like being number one on the mono charts, the stereo charts, the soundtrack charts ... ?

Oh they are hard to come by? I think I found every one either top 100 or 200 from 2001 to 2010 except 2007 and 2010. I wish they were easier to come by it's nice to see how the whole year played out

113 JACKSON*MICHAEL IMMORTAL 6,794 -74% 26,527 129,644
I've been to a couple of Best Buys where there are a ton of these left on the shelves.
It was way over-shipped.

I am quite surprised that the new MJ releases aren't tearing up the chart.
I know this is a revamped one, but even "Michael" last year did worse than I thought it would.

I am quite surprised that the new MJ releases aren't tearing up the chart. Immortal is super disappointing compared to the treatment that the Beatles got with their LOVE album. I was looking forward to the Immortal cd (and plan on seeing the tour at some point), but there's very little reason to purchase it. I can see why it severely underperformed.

The performance of these albums would sort of act as a measuring stick to how Michael Jackson's music would stack up against the likes of the Beatles and Elvis after death
So far I would say it is falling short

MJ's death is old news now. Despite the Conrad Murray trial, the hype over his passing is done with, and has been for quite some time now. As his death was the one and only catalyst for the renewed interest in his music and thus the corresponding explosion in his catalog sales and sales of "new" releases, those sales have come back down to normal levels.
MJ never had the musical or cultural impact that the Beatles had, nobody did, and as such his catalog won't see the same level of sustained success or even general interest as theirs.

Erm, half the Beatles are still alive. And John Lennon died about a decade after they stopped recording. Give it at least another 10-15 years before saying MJ's legacy is falling short.

Half the Beatles are still alive but the new music stopped 40+ years ago. The Beatles were nearly the biggest selling artist of the 00s and still sell well today with well placed ads on itunes. With music recorded when most people posting here were not yet born.
Michael Jacksons album sales the last year or so indicate that Beatles type levels will not happen (now that the news of his death is no longer fresh)
Michael Jackson's legacy will not reach Beatles status but its not bad compared to other artists either

The other half dying will just generate more publicity for them and generate spikes in their catalog sales, so I'm not seeing your point.

I was responding to the statement about the Beatles sales "after death." that was my point.
