Perhaps the dialect coach was just working with Carrie to mask her Southern accent? Perhaps. I guess we'll find out on the 5th. I'd imagine mastering an Austrian/Germanic dialect in just a few months probably isn't doable, so I could see them more or less working with her to mask her Southern accent...

Thank you. I've just never thought Carrie had a very pronounced twang or southern influence that she couldn't mask on her own. Or that some solid diction practice couldn't cure.

I never have either, but that was one of the biggest criticisms Carrie got from musical theatre folks when she was cast - that she was "too country," particularly her voice.

The power of suggestion can be very strong. In Carrie's case the label, country singer,is enough to influence people to hear what actually isn't there. They hear what they expect to hear which is the stereotypical elements of country singing, the twang. Musical theatre folks aren't immune to this.

I think Carrie sounds great on the Favorite Things clip but I do think the contrast in her an Audra's tone is a little too jarring for me. Maybe it works better in the full song.

I know what you're saying but if you put it in context then it's understandable. Audra's character as the Mother Superior, is much older than Maria, and has lived an almost cloistered life of a religious. Maria, a novice is on the other hand young, exuberant, capricious even and full of love for life and everything in it. The voices would reflect that contrast. I am not understanding, the need for a similar or same tone or style of singing in a musical. The characters are different and occupy a different role so why the need for sameness in voice. They are all individuals and speak/sing in their own voices.

Carrie was on Broadway at "Wicked" and so was I!!! Not at the show, but I was in Time Square... we actually saw a few limos and thought, "wouldn't that be cool if Carrie was actually in one, and we're all up against it waiting to cross?"... I've seen her live a bunch of times and met her before, but an impromptu sighting/meeting would literally complete my life.

Speaking of Wicked, I never realized what a front-runner she'd be to play Glinda in the inevitable movie version. With The Sound of Music on her resume, and her mass appeal, she'd definitely be on the short list.

Carrie & Stephen were interviewed on Good Day LA this morning. There's "Edelweiss" & "The Lonely Goatherd" rehearsal footage at the very beginning:

What did Lovato say about carrie? Long story short, when critiquing Rachel Potter last week after her performance of "Alone", Rachel brought up that Carrie had performed "Alone" before. In response, Demi said something to the effect of: "you'd be better than Carrie". It was 'in the moment', and it wasn't her turn to speak, they were about to move on and Demi kinda threw it in somewhat under her breath... she also likely never saw Carrie's performance(s) of "Alone before. She wasn't saying it to insult Carrie, per say, but her comments were unfounded and baseless, and that's more or less what fans were upset about, I think.

I like how DEMI just blurted it out... like she didn't care who heard her. now I don't think Carrie is the best vocalist or anything, but she is miles better than that girl on X FACTOR, so I thought that was really funny. perhaps Demi just doenst like Carrie, who knows. I just thought it was funny and made for good tv

It really didn't seem malicious at all, to me at least. It looked like an immature and ill-informed brat opened her mouth when she shouldn't have, that's all.

I think she more said it to get a reaction out of Simon due to his history with AI and wanting the last word, than it being a insult to Carrie.

Demi and X-Factor are insignificant. That's why the shade wasn't even picked up by tabloids or mentioned here. Who cares, really?
Anyway, I loved seeing the peeks into Edelweiss and Do-Re-Mi! Getting so excited for the making-of on November 27 and the big event on Dec 5.
Also, DaisyTweets over at CF posted: "According to my DVR, Carrie is going to be on the Today show Monday, November 25th." More promo!

Lol, Demi is clueless. Carrie owned Alone, this girl is doing a decent karaoke of it, at the very best.

But how do you know that Demi has never seen any of Carrie's performances of the song? To me, that just sounds like an excuse for Carrie fans to attack Demi. I mean, she's allowed to have her own opinion, and if she thinks that girl sounds better than Carrie, that's her prerogative. Demi and X-Factor are insignificant. That's why the shade wasn't even picked up by tabloids or mentioned here. Who cares, really? No, it wasn't mentioned because it just isn't a big deal and no one cares other than the Carrie fans who took offense.

That's why the shade wasn't even picked up by tabloids or mentioned here. Who cares, really? No, it wasn't mentioned because it just isn't a big deal and no one cares other than the Carrie fans who took offense. "You would do better than Carrie Underwood" is the direct quote. The use of "would" implies, to me at least, that Demi didn't know if Carrie actually ever performed the song. "Would" implies that IF Carrie had performed "Alone", than Rachel's version WOULD be better. The operative word is "would", and its implication seems to be that Demi didn't know if Carrie had performed the song or not. I really didn't look too much into it, and didn't care much (other than in the moment), until someone asked for thoughts on it... Demi might full well know Carrie's version, I really don't know... The use of the word "would", though, suggests otherwise. I think if she used "could", the reaction would be different. The implication would be more along the lines of potentially being better than Carrie. Instead, she kinda blatantly implied Rachel is better (which she's allowed to believe, of course), but with questionable knowledge of Carrie's performances of "Alone" previously. But it's kind of pointless and stupid to argue, so that's the last of what I'm saying about this.

Glinda is an operatic soprano who also has to occsionally belt, besides having comedic chops. Megan Hilty is far more suited for Glinda casting. I suppose they could step down the score for Carrie if they needed to though.
Completing my thought -- Carrie's natural singing style and range is more appropriate for Elphaba. There have been plenty of blondes cast for the role and with the actors wearing wigs it wouldn't make any difference anyway. Although I suspect Lea Michele is probably campaigning for that part.

Carrie is being featured in ABC's promo for the AMAs, is there any word if she's performing/presenting/appearing? They feature her as if she's performing, so I'm curious to see if they'll have her perform?...
