Yes, Carrie filmed the video at the end of January, so it will probably be coming out sometime within the next few weeks.

I really don't care what category this song fits into.... It kicks some major @ss..... Thank god that most Country listeners don't try and categorize songs as their listening to them or Country music would be meaningless and boring.... Rock music has few places on the Dial anymore so I commend artists like Carrie who bring an edge to Country music.... Toby is my main man but even he Rocks out periodically.... WHISKEY GIRL is one of my Favorites and that song ROCKS.... GOOD GIRL rocks in the same way and frankly I can't get it out of my head.... Also kudos to Carrie for not saying GOODBYE BOOTS and placating all the Country fans with a COUNTRY CLICHE.....LOL It's a Rock song and Carrie doesn't mind the world knowing it.... Country music is awesome and so is Carrie Underwood!!!!

Its amazing the difference a decade makes. When Wynonna tried to blend Country with Rock she was thrown off Country radio, never to return. Funny how times changed the format so drastically. I'm not saying its a bad thing as I'll buy Country Rock as much as I'll buy traditional.
I just heard "Good Girl" on the KAT in Charlotte and boy it sounds good driving down the road to!

Wy's biggest hit was No One Else On Earth which was one of her edgiest releases so I'm not sure she was thrown off the radio for it. Her material started suffering and she started infusing more blues and less rock...that was her problem.

I love this. Carrie is a good singer, and that should be appreciated. I mean, whether or not this classifies as "country" is slightly irrelevant to me. I love the song... it's catchy as well. Is it as "country" sounding as Kellie Pickler's new CD... no. But does that mean it's bad or good... nope. Just different! I think the more females we can get on country radio, the better I just wish Kellie's new song, "100 Proof", would get a fraction of this kind of attention.

* sigh* Country Forum Rules & Guidelines2. No daily updates from iTunes or any other sales or airplay charts: Again, people who post daily iTunes updates tend to do so without adding any real analysis, so don't post them. If it is a significant week for a song on iTunes, i.e., its debut week there, or the week that a televised performance or discount deal or something has the song shooting up the digital charts, then you can post once to note the song's peak on the chart that week. You can also make a general observation about a song having stabilized within a certain range on the digital charts if there is any connection with the song's country airplay. Similarly, if you wish to note a song's peak on another chart, you may post once in a thread to do so.

Every day that goes by makes me believe that they won't even try to send it to the major stations at all. Back to Carrie now. Hopefully she'll have more iTunes longevity this time since I felt that CC's performance there almost felt like a flash in the pan at first, despite it still selling about 1.6 million downloads so far. Please don't quote me on this because I'm having a hard time remembering if CC fell like a rock after peaking at #2 there; seems like it did. I'd also like for her to have more digital success throughout the era. Although I didn't publish my 2012 predictions, I see her maybe getting one hot 100 top 20 with the lead single and at least two other top 30's with some of the other singles; kinda similar to Blake Shelton's current success with "Honey Bee", "God Gave Me You", and now "Drink On It".

I don't get it... Why can't we post airplay/iTunes updates in the Country forum, but it's allowed in others like the CHR/Pop forum?? Not trying to be funny, but I just don't get it! It's nice to be able to see the updates in the actual song's thread.

I like this song after my first couple listens, but I think it's very similar to "Cowboy Casanova" (which I also did like). I hope that the she shows some growth on other songs that she has recorded for the new album.

Upon first listen i wasn't really sure what to make of this. I had the same reaction that I have when my friends try to get me to listen to songs from other genre's that i'm not familiar with. Draw whatever conclusions from that you'd like. I don't hate it like I did Undo It or Last name, and the it's not really over-produced like Casavona was, but sonically it sounds nothing like anything i can recall on country radio. The fact that she pulls it off at all is impressive, as her voice is the only thing that lends any country credence to my ears. The Shania influences are undeniable, but Shania usually layered her distinctive rhythm/beat/melody (whatever you want to call it) with country or at least quasi-country instrumentation. This song doesn't really do that. I give her credit for pushing the envelope, but it saddens me that this is the direction that she chose to push it, because it's her least interesting side in my opinion.

First day on Mediabase:
42 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Good Girl 370 0 370 3.287
Predictions?
Trivia: That's more than Cowboy Casanova, which after 1 day and a few hours as well, was at #45, had 298 spins and 2.642 million AIs. Take into account, of course, the difference in panel.

Wow, this is my favorite Carrie song ever! I'm really out of place in this particular section, but I think Carrie is awesome and have always wanted her to have the kind of crossover success that Shania had and Taylor does. Maybe this will finally give her another crossover smash a la Before He Cheats.
I bought this on iTunes this morning and am really happy to see how well it is doing. If that continues maybe it will be good incentive for pop stations to pick this up as well. Any word on label support for pop? I just can't see why they would make a song like this and not send it for adds there.

First day on Mediabase: 42 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Good Girl 370 0 370 3.287 Predictions? I think I'll go with my initial prediction from page 5 of this thread: I'll guess that she comes in at #25 on Billboard, or #24 if Luke goes recurrent I'm looking at the most recent 3/3 Billboard chart, at the audience totals for the songs in the 20's. Brantley Gilbert and Craig Morgan were at #23 & #24, both over 9 million. Both look likely to move up into the 10.5-11 million range and that's probably out of the reach of "Good Girl". At #25 was Chris Cagle's "Got My Country On", with 7.544 million. He's having a pretty strong week and I think he can hit the 9 million mark. Then there was a gap back to #26 Casey James, who had 6.240 million and will move over the 6.5 million mark but likely won't hit 7 million. GG should be able to outdo that, so that's where I'm looking--in between Chris Cagle and Casey James. Now, if GG can gain today and tomorrow what it did on Friday (which is the 3.287 million that we see in today's update), it would probably be over 9 million. However, a small part of today's number is from late Thursday night. Also, the weekend numbers might be a tad lower since there is more syndicated programming. GG has 2 days left to gain. I think it will land somewhere in the 8-9 million range. I'd like to narrow it down more but we'll see what tomorrow's numbers look like. Also, the Mediabase numbers tend to be a little higher (usually) and lately they've been even higher with the 2 Dallas stations temporarily removed from the Billboard panel. Putting "Good Girl" in between Chris and Casey would make for a debut of #26. But, time to look at possible recurrents. I see just one--Luke Bryan. I think he'll drop out of the top 10 due to loss of spins, and thus go recurrent. So that bumps GG up to #25. Maybe it could still be #24 if she's able to sneak ahead of Chris Cagle, but I'm gonna go slightly conservative (since I'm going off of just 1 day of data) and say #25 for her debut on Billboard.

On the BB Real-Time Tracker, GG is the greatest gainer (of course!) with 3.159 millions AIs already. Still waiting for an update.
Even with a conservative 2 million AIs total for Sat and Sun, your guess is pretty doable. Impressive :)

If you're reference the Real Time Tracker, well...it's not real time anymore. It'll only update once a day, usually its around 2-3 am eastern time here in the states.

Darn, I've been out of the game so long I wasn't even aware it only updates once a day now. I've been refreshing constantly every 15 mins or so for hours! Anyway, I should be glad the tracker is still visible. Thanks for the heads up, jhomes.
That said, BDS is not far off MB yet: 3.287 vs. 3.159.

I love it. It definitely shows a new kind of sassiness from Carrie Underwood. Her vocals on this one are the tightest I have heard from her. She sings the song flawless, of course. I can definitely see the Shania Twain influence (whether that is good or not is up to you). I say this matches Cowboy Casanova in time it takes to get to the top (ten weeks). Once this becomes the 12th chart topper of her career, it will move her up to #39 (from #46) with the artists with the most #1 hits.

as her voice is the only thing that lends any country credence to my ears I agree. The song is definitely just a straight up classic rock song. The only remotely "country" thing about it is Carrie's vocals which somehow are country sounding. Hard to explain really. Anyway, the song has grown on my since my first listen. The song is just a good song...not great but Carrie does put a lot of attitude into her vocals which does a lot to making this song better that average. I'm not a true country listeners but like everyone else I know many of the country hits. This doesn't hit me as much as Before He Cheats did and I don't think it will have quite the crossover success that that song had especially with the way the Pop format is right now. Good song...not great. Will probably have a pretty high burnout rate, IMO. But it is doing what it's supposed to do and generating some buzz for Carrie. Not that she needs it but I guess the super successful want to stay on the top as long as they can, too. Will probably be a fun song for her fans in concert.

It's nice to be able to see the updates in the actual song's thread. Why don't you take it up directly with the mods, instead of taking this thread off-topic in order to pursue your own private question? I think yours is a perfectly fair question to ask, but you're asking it the wrong way. And I don't mean to be unkind, or unwelcoming toward you -- I'm glad you're here -- but can't you imagine that this question has been asked -- and answered -- hundreds of times before? And just because you weren't around for the previous discussions doesn't mean the rest of us want to go through it again and again and again. Go ahead, register your protest and suggest that there are better ways to run the country forum. But please don't imagine you are the first to think the way you do. We've been through this. Take it up with the mods. Please.

I ran through all the numbers (I'm about to put up my chart predictions) and it looks like Chris will land at about 9.05 million...I think Carrie will come in a little ahead of that.

Wow, where do you think this would debut if it had a full 7 days? It's interesting to think about it, no doubt. She gained about 3.1 million yesterday (according to the RTT). Probably part of that was due to the "first day hype", so it'd be tough to gain that every day, and of course weekend numbers are a bit lower. But if she could somehow gain 3 million per day, well, 21 million would've put her at #12 on the 3/3 chart. But again, I don't think she could average that much per day. I was thinking, though, that with a full week's worth of airplay, this song could easily get 15-17 million or so, which would put it in the high teens, similar to where songs like Kenny's "Don't Blink" and Keith's "Once In A Lifetime" debuted. Other than the Garth situation, that's about as good as it gets...a #16 debut for "Don't Blink" and then #17 for "The Boys Of Fall" and "Once In A Lifetime" are the highest ones I know of. Maybe a couple others in the 17-19 range as well (I think there are a few more but I don't know all of them). Carrie's highest debut is #20 with "So Small", which I think had a full week of airplay (but it might have been 6 days--not sure). Its funny if.. Carrie released twinkle twinkle little star to radio it would do the same thing on the charts. Why because shes carrie underwood! Thats the only reason its doing well. And yall would all be talking about how good twinkle twinkle little star is lol Yes, you are right. I would cheer on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Comments like this aren't needed. I don't think you'd find hardly anyone cheering on a song like that. "Good Girl" might not be the best song in the world but Carrie's fans like it and I've known many to criticize Carrie when they feel like she could come up with better songs. That's not the case with "Good Girl", though. People like it, and it's been getting good reviews too.

The song is a fresh and hot radio sound, the beat is infectious, Carrie's vocals are stellar, and the production is pure fire. Well let me explain.. Its not a dislike against carrie.. I Think shes alright. More so what i meant by my comment is.. If say Sarrah evens or kellie pickler or a lower tear solid artist was to release good girl it would be lucky to make top 20.. But since Carrie underwood is Carrie underwood it will hit 1! For Example if Kellie pickler or Sunny sweeny or any other lower tear artist was to release Before he cheats would it of went number 1. The answer is NO! For Example kellie picklers I wonder desearved to be number hit.. If Carrie sanged I wonder it would have hit number 1.. So all im saying is Radio needs to base songs on the strength of song instead on Being favorable to certain artist like Carrie.. Radio should be fair but its not.. Im not saying GG is a bad song its solid is it country no but its Solid.. So theres my explanation of my recent comment i have nothing against Carrie or this song!

Well, you can say that about every number one hit in the history of country music....if Kellie Pickler sang it, it wouldn't have gone number one. Maybe she should try Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
