I've always liked and respected Prince, but I've spent the last 6 years falling in love with his discography. His passing has been VERY difficult for me and I think of him, his music, and his legacy every day. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to see him live in 2013.
The amount of love I've seen for him has been overwhelming. I went to a Prince tribute party last weekend and it was such a blissful experience being surrounded by people who knew word for word each Prince song that was being played.
At the moment, the songs that stick out to me and hit me to the core are "Purple Rain" (this was my favorite for THE LONGEST, it's rightfully his signature song), "Diamonds and Pearls" (I have such a soft spot for this song, it's the first song of his I remember hearing when I was a child), "Do Me Baby, "Adore", "Sleep Around", "Somebody's Somebody", "Eye Hate U", "Pop Life", "Soft and Wet", "Little Red Corvette", "When 2 R In Love", "I Wish U Heaven", and "Mountains". "Pink Cashmere" is probably the jam of jams for me at the moment.
Of course the Purple Rain and Sign O' The Times albums are great, but I really enjoy listening to Come, Emancipation, Dirty Mind, and especially Parade.

I really need to delve into "Pink Cashmere." I keep reading about it, but I don't remember the song.

I love Prince music so much that I can't picture anyone singing a Prince song much less someone who can't even sing. I wish they only tribute him with words and talk about his career. Prince should be the only one to ever sing his classics.

Almost two months later and I still haven't been able to fully process this. :'(
It's weird because it feels like nothing has changed, since I'd spent the last year listening to his whole catalogue anyway and buying the last few albums of his I still hadn't purchased. The fact that his videos are all over YT now reminds me he's gone. This hit hard.

Stevie Wonder has now been added to the tribute Usher is also apart of it as well and Maxwell said he will give tribute as well but it hasn't been confirmed if it will be during his own performance or during the all around tribute. It's going to be HYPE! on Sunday.

No shade but I'm trying to figure out what song Stevie could sing that would make sense...for that matter Usher too (I thought he was singing his own song?) but then, Usher pulled off Whitney so I'll stay perched. Is BET going to just turn this show into the Prince Tribute featuring the BET Awards? lol. Not that this would bother me in the slightest! To be honest, the Prince tribute should have been made its own show anyway. I also see the network avoided calamity and hurt feefees by putting Alicia on Muhammad Ali duty

The BET Awards tribute was excellent. Bilal had the spirit of Prince in him.

The cracks in Tori Kelly are starting to show. She was so far out of her league last night. I mean, granted, Take Me With U is a slight song, all things considered, but she was just so basic. Even Queen Erykah was like, "Who is this girl?! Let me up on that stage!" As for Erykah...we get it. You are an artist. But choosing a lesser Prince song and mumble-scatting your way through it was no way to properly pay tribute. For the record, other than paying homage to one of Prince's iconic outfits (!), JHud missed the mark by doing what she seemingly does best, i.e. shrieking at the utmost top of her register. At one point, I had to turn down the volume. I have witnessed Natasha Bedingfield give that song the justice it truly deserves. I haven't seen the whole show so I don't know who paid tribute in the second half/last 3rd but the only ones that TRULY paid tribute were Bilal and Maxwell, which shouldn't be that surprising. I wasn't expecting THAT from Bilal though. I am still in awe. The combo of him and The Roots was just so powerful and so...Prince. Maxwell couldn't get it together for his own song but he did extremely well for Prince and you could tell it was tough for him to do that song so props to him. I am still in shock that D'Angelo and Alicia Keys (two artists who pretty much owe their career to Prince and whose best songs were either actual Prince covers or sounded like Prince covers) were not part of the tribute.

WB has started a vinyl re-issue campaign of his back catalog so far they have re-issued "For You" , "Prince", and "Parade" (they skipped "Dirty Mind" - "Purple Rain" because they were all reissued back in 2009-2011) "Around the World in a Day" was delayed for unknown reasons and it will be out on Tuesday (9/6). Sign & Lovesexy are scheduled for next month. D&P & the lovesymbol album will be out in Nov and Come will follow in December. (The vinyl reissue of The Black Album has been canceled/pushed back indefintely)
Billboard and other outlets reported a few days ago that the executors of his estate are planning a new GH package with a few unreleased tracks for the holiday season.
I hope this one will include his TAFKAP & later material and not just the stuff from 78 - 92.

He has such sex appeal without even trying. Idk if Thriller was the biggest thing in music besides the Beatles, Prince >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Michael in the sexy department

I wouldn't exactly say without trying LOL but I definitely agree that Prince was more sexy than Michael. Then again, sexiness was never part of Michael's image whereas it was ALWAYS a part of Prince's

This thread is about Prince and his legacy but since we're talking about Michael and Prince being sexy, I will say that Michael during the BAD era, especially when he smiled, will always be miles sexier to me than Prince during any moment in his career.

I guess I don't really find the cute boy-next-door ear-to-ear grin SEXY but that's something that speaks of individual tastes. Prince had that bad boy dirty look that he would give that was always hot, but he would sometimes play coy too.

Londell McMillan, a source close to the situation tells Billboard. All three major labels are said to be in talks for rights to the music, the source said. The source also said that a deluxe edition of Purple Rain -- which was announced as part of the artist’s 2014 deal with Warner Bros. but has not yet materialized -- will likely be released in the coming months, possibly as soon as early 2017. As Billboard previously reported, a new greatest-hits collection is expected to be released later this year. Reps for Koppelman, McMillan and Warner Bros. either declined comment or could not be reached for comment. What exactly is in Prince's studio vault -- which contains thousands of hours of music recorded over four decades -- is unclear, as the estate is still sorting through the artist's assets and determining who will control the estate; sources say the estate has not yet begun cataloging the music in the vault. Ownership of certain unreleased material also remains unclear, as Prince was under contract to Warner Bros. from 1977 until the mid-1990s and subsequently cut one-off or short-term deals with every major label group (including Universal’s Republic, Sony’s Columbia, Epic and Arista, and EMI) and several indies as well as streaming services over the years. When Prince’s 2014 deal with Warner Bros. was announced, the wording of the press release suggested that the artist at least verbally agreed to issue upgraded versions of his Warner Bros.-era albums and mine his vault for previously unreleased material, beginning with a Purple Rain deluxe edition. (Several contemporaneous tracks were released as B-sides and many more have appeared on bootlegs, and several full concerts from the Purple Rain era were professionally recorded, including a March 1985 show that was released on the now out-of-print home video Prince and the Revolution: Live.) But when asked about the status of the Purple Rain reissue shortly after Prince’s death, Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Cameron Strang told Billboard, "I definitely discussed it with Prince. At times he toyed with doing something with it and maybe worked on it, but he considered Purple Rain a masterpiece, and I think he liked it the way it was." Prince apparently did not leave a will, which has made the management of the estate deeply complicated. In June, Koppelman (who orchestrated Prince’s first post-Warner Bros. deal, with EMI) and attorney McMillan (who represented the artist several times over the years) were appointed musical advisers to Bremer Trust, the temporary administrator of the Prince estate. The announcement came just days after a Minnesota state judge granted Bremer limited authority to hire entertainment industry experts to help manage the music holdings. The two have been reviewing a large number of opportunities from major labels, major publishers and performance rights organizations, sources say. Since his death on April 21, Prince has sold 1.95 million albums and 4.9 million song downloads in the U.S. through the week ending Oct. 6, according to Nielsen Music. The case determining which of Prince’s family members will be officially declared heirs is ongoing. His sister Tyka and five half-siblings are likely to be declared the rightful heirs, but a judge is still deciding whether a purported niece and grand-niece and nephew should count as well. The complexity around the estate reached another level last week when Prince’s Paisley Park studio complex in Chanhassen, Minn., opened to the public for just three days after a full opening had been announced. A wrench was thrown into the process just days before the opening when the city council voted against a rezoning request that would allow Prince’s estate to operate as a museum.

I hope for an official release of a lot of the work he did for others.
I know there's a ton of unreleased stuff from Vanity 6, Jill Jones, and Sheila E. Must hear it!
Speaking of which, Jill Jones' "G Spot" has been my jam all year. I love her version and the demo with Prince and Vanity 6.

Records announced the impending release of two new Prince projects that will include previously unheard material from his legendary archives. They will be the first official Prince albums issued since his death in April. First up is “Prince 4Ever,” a new 40-song compilation that includes his biggest hits and best-known songs from his Warner Bros. days, which ended in 1996. The tracklist includes “When Doves Cry,” “Purple Rain,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Kiss,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Raspberry Beret” and “Alphabet Street.” It also features “Batdance,” a single that never appeared on a Prince compilation during his lifetime, as well as “Moonbeam Levels,” a song he recorded in 1982 during sessions for the “1999” album. It’s never been officially released, but is well-known enough among fans that Elvis Costello covered it live at a Prince tribute concert in 2013. “Prince 4Ever” is due in stores Nov. 22 and will feature a booklet with never-before-seen Prince photos shot by acclaimed photographer Herb Ritts. Warner Bros. also announced the “Purple Rain” deluxe reissue – first promised in 2014 to coincide with the album’s 30th anniversary – will finally see the light of day early next year. It will feature a second album of unreleased songs, with further details to be announced.

The tracklisting is decent but it would have been nice to include stuff from albums released after his WB ones. Because if they were not not able to with this one, there's going to be so many other collections and stuff released saying this next one is the definitive collection, but none will have what they really need to. This sort of thing has been a major sore spot for fans of Donna Summer because there are dozens of collections out there and none are completely comprehensive with most leaving out obvious hits or they use the wrong versions. There is a new one coming out this Christmas for her and it is missing almost everything released after 1999.

That hits collection is nothing but a quick cash in and since it's 40 songs I'm sure all songs will be the single versions. I'll buy it if it's priced properly but knowing WB it'll be $30 or more

It's a real shame that Prince's last big hit is still banished - and, yes, I know Gold was licensed and controlled by Prince is a strange way, but that's not really an issue now.

PRINCE TO JAY Z NO FREE RIDES IN MY LITTLE RED CORVETTE... Record Label Sues Prince's record label is through playing around with Jay Z -- it just sued the rapper's company for illegally streaming just about every hit song the late singer ever released. Prince's NPG Records is suing Roc Nation for overstepping an agreement Prince signed with them before his death. According to the docs, Prince made a deal for Roc Nation to stream -- through Tidal -- the last album he released before his death ... "Hit N Run: Phase 1." But NPG says Roc Nation decided it also had the greenlight to stream almost all of Prince's catalog, and started doing that on June 7, 2016 ... which would have been his 58th birthday. NPG says none of that streaming was authorized and it's now suing Roc for copyright infringement, and also to block any continued streaming of his music ... outside of that final album. They don't mention a specific dollar amount, but the damages would be enormous. According to the docs ... Tidal jacked "I Wanna Be Your Lover," "1999," "Little Red Corvette," "Cream," "Purple Rain," "Controversy," "Pop Life," ... just to skim the surface. Seriously, the list goes on for more than 3 full pages. source
