Love this song. The country version almost sounds better! I don't know what she and the song are capable of, though it is exciting.

I love Kelly and love this song, and I think the country version almost sounds better than the original. I would be very excited to see this song have success at country radio.

I would love to hear Kelly do a full Country album. She has flirted with Country since even her own Idol days when she said her dream was to sing "Does He Love You" with Reba, and Idol made it happen that year. Kelly has a great Country voice if she used it that way.

I agree. Kelly is really the only current relevant pop starlet that I would support, and even cheer for, were she to decide to go the country route. I've always thought she has a great voice for country, and it's been obvious since her Idol days that it's a genre she has a deep respect for, as well.

I disagree that she has a great voice for country. For instance, I thought her voice stuck out like a sore thumb on DYWS alongside Jason's. She's got a good voice, but I think she's best suited to a more pop-rock sound, like Behind These Hazel Eyes and Never Again, or to a lesser extent electropop.
That said, this is a really good remix of a song I never imagined could be made country. Although I still feel that while this is sonically good, her voice still doesn't sound authentically country to me.

I, for one, am glad she doesn't make herself sound "authentically country". Oh no, I'm not asking her to fake a country accent or anything like that. But her voice just doesn't sound country to me, so it would be better if she just stuck to what she did best. I don't like the idea of her just slapping fiddles and banjo on her songs and sending them to country radio, even if I like the outcome this time (we're not always this lucky w/ these remixes -- the BTW country mix was sh*t, i.e.).

I love this remix--it's so cool (and necessary) that she re-recorded instead of slapping on some karaoke country backing track. Have no idea what it will actually do, though--as I said in a previous thread, I feel like this would need a performance on some country platform to get noticed enough to take off. It'd be fun if it got top top 20 or so, and then they can release "Breaking Your Own Heart" as a follow up.

I find this hard to listen to, just from being so used to the original. I'm sure country fans will love it if it gets the right exposure, though.

If you like the outcome, what's the problem? She's already had MAJOR success with "Don't You Wanna Stay" (and "Because of You" to a lesser extent), so people obviously like how she sounds. For all the awards and praise she has received, I see no reason why she shouldn't branch out to other formats if they're willing to play her music. I don't like the idea of boxing in the Queen of Versatility to only pop/rock, even if that has been her most successful genre. And she didn't just slap fiddles and banjo on the original version... she actually re-recorded "Mr. Know It All" in its entirety so it would be catered to country radio. It actually seems most people think it genuinely sounds better as a country song than a pop song.

It actually seems most people think it genuinely sounds better as a country song than a pop song. I have a problem because I don't like her voice with country music. I felt the same way about Steel Magnolia; they had good voices, but neither of them sounded country. I couldn't stand it. (They had obnoxious harmonies and poor songs going against them, too, but that's beside the point.) She's hardly being boxed in. There's only one country chart, whereas Kelly frequently ends up charting on multiple genre charts. And let's be honest with those collabs. Yes, people like her, but those hits were big on country radio because of Jason and Reba, not her. That's not to say that she didn't add some appeal to those songs though, but not in a way that suggests that she's going to be a breakout solo country star. I wasn't aware of that. Still, I don't think the song is all that country because her voice still holds it back. The music sounds like it, but her voice doesn't do it for me.

I don't think that DYWS is a gauge of how Kelly would do on country radio sonically — it's a great song, but it's an 80s power ballad.

If she only got the .602 for the full week -- I'm not sure what days those 23 spins cover -- then she'd wind up in the neighborhood of #55. 602k last week would have been good enough for #57 but with Justin Moore, Hunter Hayes, and maybe Eric Church going recurrent, everybody can move up a little bit.
But maybe it will get to a million by the end of the weekend. And that would get the song into the top 50.
I haven't liked her voice so far but I'm always open to a mind-changing experience. So I'd better check this one out.

Kelly's one of my favourites, and I'd love a full country album from her one day, but I wish she'd wait until then to send something to country radio. I like "Mr. Know It All", and the country mix is very good, but I'd think she'd have a better chance of getting decent play at country with an original country song, rather than a pop song that crosses over.

I do like this version a lot, but I want an HQ version of it. I hope they make it available on iTunes.

This might be a decent song, but I'm having trouble getting past her voice. She's a breathy pop singer - plain and simple - and a very poor fit for the country genre. She would probably be fine on a ballad, but a song like this simply isn't country regardless of what production they throw on it. (for the record i'm not insinuating that it takes a twang to sound country, because that's not what it's about it all)

I love me some Kelly and look forward to hearing her solo on country radio (even if I don't like the lyrics to this particular song).
On the other hand, that will come with a price as one of the more hyperbolic and hypersensitive fan bases on Pulse will find its way over here. (I'm speaking generally as there are some more rational ones in the group.)

I think Kelly's team is smart to just test this out rather than go all out with an adds date and iTunes release. It's been a really quiet pseudo-release so far so if country doesn't really seem to be biting, they can write the whole thing off and no one will be the wiser. It's really just icing on the cake for her era at this point, so anything that happens with this sort of seems like a win to me. There are obviously a number of country songs that have been given pop mixes and sent to pop, but can someone provide me with some examples--besides the uber-lame "Born This Way"--of pop songs that were given a country mix and actually saw some success?

Miley Cyrus - "The Climb" though it was written by country writers same as "Mr. Know It All" actually. Train released "Hey, Soul Sister" last year but it didn't do much. Kid Rock "All Summer Long" And I can't think of anymore. If this does something they should release the Jennifer Hanson co-write "Breaking Your Own Heart" or the JaneDear Girls co-write "The Sun Will Rise". They both have a country connection like this song does as it's co-written by Brett James.

Jennifer Nettles was added to Bon Jovi's "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and it went to #1. That's the biggest hit that I can think of. Sheryl Crow's country mix of "The First Cut Is The Deepest" made it to #35. Miley Cyrus' country version of "The Climb" reached #26. I'm sure there are more examples, but those are the recent ones that come to mind. Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" went to #4, but that didn't have a mix of any kind (at least, none that I'm aware of).

It's not a problem for me that the voice just doesn't have a country feel, it's that the arrangement still sounds very pop....there's nothing country about it...then again neither is Taylor Swift. I'm not surprised that this is/has happened...Kelly, Reba, and now Blake and Miranda have been like the 4 Muskateers...where you see one you see the others and they're all (with the exception of Miranda)managed by the same guy, Reba's husband...so...I've kinda been expecting it. Perhaps her management team and Kelly are looking ahead and where Kelly might fit best?

I don't dislike this. I think it works. It's a remix done well, but it's not especially country. I agree with someguy who said that he would prefer an all-country project with original music if Kelly is to cross over. This works as a remix (and I'm glad she re-recorded the song, rather than just adding the "country" instrumentation).
But what's so bad if this song does cross over? The country airwaves are already full of Taylor Swift and Lady A who lean heavily pop and AC, so I hardly think this would stand out like a sore thumb were it to garner airplay and chart.
