Third part of behind the songs from Pulses. Amy and Nick talk this time about "Tidal Wave" and "Puppet".

I think Nick's voice is so much more 'commercial' than hers. He sounds so good singing the chorus on Pulses.

My CD came in the mail today. All the red in the booklet is an assault on the eyes but I'm glad the album is finally out.
Currently #11 on iTunes.

I like them so much better when she's singing as opposed to rapping.

"Drifter" is incredible! Ooh, and "Try Me On" is that song from the water flavorer commercials that aired before even "Acapella" was released!

Still #11 on iTunes. I hope they sell at least 25k. Pulses was not included in the list of sales projections for next week and the lowest seller was listed at 12-14k.

All Music Guide gives the album 2/5 stars: Rolling Stone gives the album 1.5/5 stars: Honestly that first review really fucking nails it. I was a big fan of theirs and now I almost don't care. They morphed from this creative, unique duo into a bazaar and tired blend of cliches and confusion. And the point about how unbelievable long it took for them to shoot this shit out? Unheard of. They shouldn't have done the "ep" and they shouldn't have released "Acapella" with that awfully annoying and polarizing "falsetta" portion. Everyone who has been key in their YouTube to radio transition has failed miserable. It's sad, but they're super done.

Yeah, Erlewine's AMG review nailed it (while RS took the typical Karmin-bashing-for-music-writer-sh!ts-and-giggles approach). For anyone interested, my review touched on many of the same points: kurttrowbridge.com/reviews/karmin-pulses/

Am I really the only person who loves this album? I mean, it is all over the place, but it works for me.
I would like to hear them go down the "Acapella"/"Pulses"/"Drifter" sound more, though. Those songs are fucking incredible. Especially "Drifter." That song is the definition of eargasm.

No, you aren't the only one. Drifter, Puppet, and I Want It All are the ones I enjoy the most from the album.

I love the album. It's a fun, lighthearted album. I don't think it's meant to be taken super seriously (although the more melancholy songs are good too). I'm kind of surprised at all the negative reviews.

Those 3 are my favorite from the album too and honestly I love the album, though I knew it wouldn't be generally liked by the public at large lol.

With 52.67% of sales reported, they're at #18 with 7,507. Here's to hoping they crack 15k!

Pulses should have been the first single, hands down. Everything else is too risky for pop radio. But I definitely can see Pulses hitting hard this Spring.

I can't, but I'll keep a sliver of hope open for them. Somehow I don't think they're too worried about staying signed, though.

They put something strange on Facebook today, it said "Tough day.. :/" :( That was followed by Nick claiming to be single then an admission of it being an April Fools' joke, so I think it was just part of the ruse.

Oh haha I read that after I read their low debut numbers then assumed it was something about that. :x

"Pulses" "I Want It All" "Drifter" "Gasoline" "Hate to Love You" "Try Me On"
I like that Nick's singing a lot more, and I think they should try pushing a single at radio w/him singing lead, just to show the public it's more than just Amy singing/rapping. I can see why the reviews have been mixed, as I sometimes had some trouble getting a sense of what Karmin's sound is (other than just a Pop duo). I wish them the best, but I guess they won't be hitting it big with this album (due to the expected record label support decline once an album gets released - usually one or two more singles left in the cycle).

They're playing in New Orleans next week -- they're advertising the tickets for $12 on Groupon. I'm excited to see it!

Anyone else find it weird that it took 6 people to write a 36 second intro...?

They were phenomenal last night -- super high energy, commanded the stage and just made it impossible not to have a great time. It was a small venue (the Civic Center in New Orleans), but it was relatively well-attended.
Such a good show!
