I've decided to post all further special shows that replace regular weekly shows in a separate forum to make sure the weekly chart post appears on the first page. In past weeks whenever I post the special chart first, then the regular chart, the latter is often on two different pages when I go to print it out (for year-end chart purposes). So this is the post for special editions of 20: The Countdown Magazine, starting with the Third Day show heard back in April.
When I turned on the radio this morning and heard that Jon Rivers was doing the Top 20 hits of Third Day - So Far, my first impulse was to turn off the radio and catch a few extra winks, since he did a Third Day special around this time last year. But then, I remembered that I missed a few songs on that one, so I decided to listen to it anyway. Well, it turns out that this was a different show and my question is why? I know that Third Day is a popular group and all, but two different shows spotlighting their hits within a year of each other? Come on!
Oh well, here's the new list. In parentheses is the number the songs were at on the last Third Day countdown.
1 God Of Wonders (1) 2 I've Always Loved You 3 Show Me Your Glory (2) 4 Manger Throne (11) 5 You Are So Good To Me (4) 6 I Believe (Jon's Future Favorite) 7 Sing A Song (10) 8 King Of Glory (3) 9 O Come O Come Emmanuel (16) 10 It's Alright (5) 11 These Thousand Hills (6) 12 The Creed (20) 13 You Are Mine (N/A) 14 Nothing Compares (9) 15 Come On Back To Me (N/A) 16 Your Love O Lord (7) 17 Come Together (12) 18 What Good 19 Forever (14) 20 My Hope Is You (15)
NOTE: I'm not totally sure if song I have song #20 correct. I tuned in as Jon was announcing it and I forgot what it was. But "My Hope Is You" sort of rings a bell. The list will be up on the 20: Countdown website soon, so we'll know for sure then. Also, you'll notice that some songs that weren't on the previous Third Day countdown have (N/A) after them while others are blank. Well, as I said, I missed two songs on that last countdown, so I'm not sure what they were - it is entirely possible that they were on this countdown as well. Since every other song in the Top Fifteen on the last show was on this countdown, it seems fitting that those other two would be here as well. Songs 15 and 13 are from their latest album "Wire", which was just being released at the time of the last Third Day countdown and its first hit was "I Believe". So those songs wouldn't have been on that last one. I'll try to get an answer from the producer of the show, since we e-mail back and forth from time to time with stuff about the 20: Countdown show. At least the two shows had the same number one song in common, "God Of Wonders", from the City On The Hill project that was released in the summer of 2000. The song spent four weeks at number one in fall of that year, so it seems fitting and proper that it should be at number one (I predicted that they'd choose their latest hit, sort of like they did for the Steven Curtis Chapman show but they did not). Anyway, if I can somehow get the missing information, I'll post it, and keep an eye out for the regular weekly countdown, coming soon.

Glad I missed this show. I am not a 3rd Day fan.

Neither am I, really, but some of their songs are pretty good. Still, I was a little disappointed at the principle of the whole thing; two Third Day specials within a year of each other while other great artists have been totally ignored.
Has MercyMe had enough hits to produce a 20: Countdown special featuring them?

God Of Wonders isn't even a Third Day song. I'm pretty sure Mac Powell is the only member of the group heard on that song. The problem with an AC show doing a Third Day countdown is they leave out their bigger rock hits like "Consuming Fire", "Nothing At All", "Alien", "Sky Falls Down", "Never Bow Down", and "40 Days."

I am a big Third Day fan. I think Mac Powell is one of the best singers in music period. Just love his voice.
Jeffster is right. "God of Wonders" is a Mac Powell song, not Third Day.

Well, after two extremely slow charts over the past two weeks, I was hoping to hear a show that featured a chart with a few big jumps, but when I turned on my radio this morning, I realized that was not to be. Instead, it was a special, the Top 20 Praise & Worship Songs - So Far. Since the station wasn't coming in very well at all, at first I decided to skip it, since they did the same show back in early July of last year, but when they started playing a song by Jeff Deyo, who wasn't on last year's Praise & Worship countdown, I realized that it was a new chart. Now, I remember a few clips from the show, so this is basically just a re-arranged version of last year's show, with three new songs to freshen it up. I'll list the songs, along with their positions on last year's show:
1) You're Worthy Of My Praise/Jeremy Camp (18) 2) Here I Am To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean (14) 3) You Are My King (Amazing Love)/The Newsboys (11) 4) God Of Wonders/City On A Hill (2) 5) Blessed Be Your Name/Tree63 (20) 6) He Reigns/The Newsboys (5) 7) Indescribable/Chris Tomlin (N/A) 8) Breathe/Michael W. Smith (10) 9) Heart Of Worship/Matt Redman (16) 10) Holy Is The Lord/Chris Tomlin (N/A) 11) We Fall Down/Kutless (17) 12) Awesome God/Rich Mullins (3) 13) Lord I Lift Your Name On High/Petra (4) 14) Open The Eyes Of My Heart/John Tesh (8) 15) Forever/Chris Tomlin (9) 16) Above All/Michael W. Smith (16) 17) I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever/SonicFlood (6) 18) Sometimes By Step/Richard Mullins (12) 19) Come, Now Is The Time To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean (15) 20) I Give You My Heart/Jeff Deyo (N/A)
Like last year's show, this one is chock full of Chris Tomlin songs (even the Jon's Future Favorite, of which I forget the title; maybe if aajunkie catches the show, he'll refresh my memory:)). And even though both Jon and Chris insist that this song is based on songs that are sung in church the most and played on Christian radio stations across the country, I don't think that the abundance of songs by Chris Tomlin is just coincidence (though Chris does sing a lot of Praise & Worship songs). Since there are three new songs, that means three songs that were heard on last weeks show were absent from this show, including the #1 song from that. When Jon said that the song was recorded by many people, I was thinking, "Well, I remember that's what he said about "Shout To The Lord", so it's probably that song". I was wrong, however; he surprised us by playing "You're Worthy Of My Praise". I figured that he'd play the Big Daddy Weave/BarlowGirl version that recently spent a good long time on the 20: Countdown chart, but instead, he went with the Jeremy Camp version, which came in at #18 on last year's show. The other songs that were on last year's show, but not this one are "Jesus Lover Of My Soul" by Christopher Harris (#7 last year) and "We Bow Down" by Twila Paris (#13 last year). Another big difference was "Blessed Be Your Name" by Tree63, which kicked off the Praise & Worship show last year, during which time "Blessed Be Your Name" was still hanging around in the Top Ten. They had no idea that it would end up spending nearly forty weeks on the chart, so it was ranked low then, but because of its long tenure, plus the fact that it's apparently sung at many churches across America, it's in the Top Five. The two Phillips Craig & Dean "worship" songs were back to back on last year's chart at #14 and 15, but this time around, they're on opposite ends of the chart. "Come, Now Is The Time To Worship" is down at #19 and the song that was on the chart last year, "Here I Am To Worship" apparently gained a lot of popularity at churches as it shot up to #2. The strange thing is, I don't ever remember singing "Here" at church and have sung the other one several times. Oh well, we usually sing traditional hymns instead of popular radio smashes, which are generally only sung at the Contemporary services, and we don't seem to have very many of those anymore. Well, when we next hear a special show that pre-empts a weekly chart (which excludes the Top 20 Christmas songs and Top 20 Songs of the year), I'll be sure to post it here.

Sorry didn't listen to the show so I didn't get the JFF when I heard it was praise & worship I turned it off because I though it was the same one they had earlier.

I can agree with this chart, at least based on the worship services I've been to. "Holy Is The Lord" is almost overkilled, "Blessed Be Your Name" is a local favorite, and Here I Am To Worship, You Are My King, and Worthy of My Praise get fairly frequent rotation as well.
All in all, nice chart. Good songs!

That's OK, since I imagine it was his brand new song. I don't remember what the Future Favorite on the Praise & Worship show was last year, but I remember it was by Chris Tomlin and it was most likely "Indescribable", since that was just coming out around that time. The problem is, they don't seem to list the Jon's Future Favorite songs on his site when they're on special shows. Almost as if they think that they're "un-official".

In the last praise & worship special the JFF was a song that wasn't even released into radio it was called Unfailing Love and it was from Chris Tomlin.

I heard that the Praise & Worship show will be rebroadcast this coming weekend (February 4-5).
In my commentary of that show, I mentioned that we never sang "Here I Am To Worship". Well, we did this past November and something really weird happened. The first line is "Light of the world, you stepped out into darkness". Right after we sang that last word, we had a brief power failure. The timing couldn't have been any better!

As mentioned in this week's 20: The Countdown Magazine post, this past week's show was a special, 20 songs that are associated with Easter. It was not a countdown, however, since Jon did not attach any numbers to the songs. Here they are, in the order they were played:
HOUR 1: Old Rugged Cross/Amy Grant Wish/Brian Littrell Secret Ambition/David Crowder Band I Was The Nails/David & The Giants Blood On My Hands/Todd Agnew The Glory/Avalon Shadow Of The Cross/Joel Engle The Wonderful Cross/Chris Tomlin This Man/Jeremy Camp Crucified With Christ/Phillips Craig & Dean
HOUR 2: Sweetly Broken/Jeremy Riddle Above All/Michael W. Smith Mighty Is The Power Of The Cross/Chris Tomlin Once Again/Fusebox You Are My King (Amazing Love)/The Newsboys My Savior My God/Aaron Shust Can't Keep A Good Man Down/Newsong Redeemer/Nicole C. Mullen Arise My Love/Newsong
Hmm, that's only nineteen songs. I was thinking that maybe I miscounted, since I only came up with nineteen songs also, but I guess not. Either that or they forgot to list one of them. I'll have to compare my notes with the list provided on the website and see if there's a song I have that was omitted from the list. Since Jon talked more than usual, maybe there was only enough room for nineteen songs. Who knows?

Well, guess what? They did yet another Top 20 Praise & Worship Songs - So Far today. Since many of the songs from the one last year are also on this one, I decided to include add two columns to compare the chart positions of the songs from all three countdowns they've done since the summer of '04
2C LC TC SONG/ARTIST 14 02 01 Here I Am To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean 08 14 02 Open The Eyes Of My Heart/John Tesh 20 05 03 Blessed Be Your Name/Tree63 15 19 04 Come Now Is The Time To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean 01 RE 05 Shout To The Lord/Darlene Zschech 04 13 06 Lord I Lift Your Name On High/Petra 09 15 07 Forever/Chris Tomlin 02 04 08 God Of Wonders/City On A Hill 11 03 09 You Are My King (Amazing Love)/The Newsboys XX XX 10 How Great Is Our God/Chris Tomlin 18 01 11 You're Worthy Of My Praise/Jeremy Camp 10 08 12 Breathe/Michael W. Smith XX 10 13 Holy Is The Lord/Chris Tomlin 16 09 14 Heart Of Worship/Matt Redman 17 11 15 We Fall Down/Kutless XX XX 16 Draw Me Close XX 20 17 I Give You My Heart/Jeff Deyo 16 16 18 Above All/Michael W. Smith 06 17 19 I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever/SonicFlood XX 07 20 Indescribable/Chris Tomlin
Falling off from last year's show: #6: He Reigns/The Newsboys #12: Awesome God/Rich Mullins #18: Sometimes By Step/Rich Mullins
Not a bad show this week. The songs really moved over the past few years. The most movement was made by "Shout To The Lord" by Darlene Zschech. On the first "Praise & Worship Songs" countdown that I heard, it was number one, last year, it was nowhere to be found, and this time around, it returns to the survey at number five. BTW, I'm not sure about #7. I'm pretty sure it was a Chris Tomlin song, since Jon mentioned that there were five songs by him, and I just wrote down "Forever" since that song was on the last two countdowns. If I find out that it was indeed a different song, I'll amend this post as soon as I do. Of the three songs that drop out, two of them were the songs by the late Rich Mullins that appeared on both of the previous Praise & Worship countdowns. I guess his music isn't very popular anymore, which is too bad, because I like his music, including those two songs "Awesome God" and "Sometimes By Step". Number one is an appropriate song for this countdown, for it contains the word "Worship". It is one of two Phillips Craig & Dean songs with that title, "Here I Am To Worship". Everytime I hear that song, I remember the little incident at church that I mentioned in my post before last. What I forgot to mention is that the power came back on right after we sang the next line, "Opened my eyes let me see". Like I said before, the timing was perfect!

Well, just a little over a month after one special was another one. Since Audio Adrenaline is calling it quits after fifteen years, they had a special devoted to them. However, it wasn't a countdown of songs, but rather a countdown of the group's twenty pivotal moments. I'm assuming that they did it this way because Audio Adrenaline didn't have enough songs to produce a Top 20 countdown - that is, not enough hits that were playable at Christian AC radio (and hence, never made the 20: Countdown chart). But I'm not sure, as I never really paid attention to their music until they came out with my number one song of 2004, "Leaving 99". Anyway, here is a basic list of the group's Top Twenty Pivotal moments. I'll doctor it up a little later on, along with posting the twelve or so songs that they played throughout the show:
1 Working with their Hands & Feet Project 2 Winning a Grammy for Until My Heart Caves In 3 Mark begins losing his voice 4 Downtime adventures 5 Winning a Grammy for Worldwide 6 Ocean Floor a big hit 7 Crazy touring moments 8 1st Dove performance: Get Down 9 Perfoming at Billy Graham Crusade 10 Bob Herdman leaves to start Flicker Records 11 Underdog self-produced 12 Zombie Tour (a.k.a. Injury Tour) 13 Tyler Burkum auditions as guitarist 14 Bloom goes gold 15 Touring with dc talk and Steven Curtis Chapman 16 Ben Cissell auditions as drummer 17 Big House becomes huge 18 Buying a touring truck 19 Signing a record deal 20 Getting the Audio Adrenaline name

Well, they decided to repeat the "Top 20 Praise And Worship Songs - So Far" countdown that they did back in mid-September this weekend. Seems kind of silly, IMO, seeing that the chart is on their website, but whatever. At least I got to sleep in this morning (after finding out that it was the same one, natch!).
The list is in my post before the Audio Adrenaline show, just above this one. Enjoy! (Too bad there's no Rich Mullins in there this time around... :'( )

Wow, they sure love their "Praise & Worship" specials, don't they? They did their second one in less than a year this past weekend. Here it is and, once again, it's chock full of Chris Tomlin songs:
1) How Great Is Our God/Chris Tomlin 2) God Of Wonders/City On A Hill Project 3) You Are My King (Amazing Love)/The Newsboys 4) He Reigns/The Newsboys 5) We Fall Down/Chris Tomlin 6) Here I Am To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean 7) Blessed Be Your Name/Tree63 8) Breathe/Michael W. Smith 9) Indescribable/Chris Tomlin 10) You're Worthy Of My Praise/Jeremy Camp 11) Friend Of God/Phillips Craig & Dean 12) Holy Is The Lord/Chris Tomlin 13) How Can I Keep From Singing/Chris Tomlin 14) Open The Eyes Of My Heart/John Tesh 15) Shout To The Lord/Darlene Zschech 16) Forever/Chris Tomlin 17) Lord I Lift Your Name On High/Petra 18) Come, Now Is The Time To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean 19) The Heart Of Worship/Matt Redman 20) Made To Worship/Chris Tomlin
I'll try and remember to post the trends soon.

This past weekend, in honor of Third Day releasing their new album "Chronology, Volume 2", Jon Rivers did a special Top 20 songs of Third Day. This countdown featured songs on both their Chronology albums. Those of you who know their Third Day songs should be able to figure out which songs are which. The songs on Chronology 2 are songs from 2001 to the present, while songs from the first one came from 2000 and before. The trends are to show how this Third Day special differed from the last one, aired back in April, 2005.
LC TC SONG 01 01 God Of Wonders 05 02 You Are So Good To Me XX 03 Mountain Of God 12 04 The Creed 07 05 Sing A Song 16 06 Your Love O Lord 03 07 Show Me Your Glory 02 08 I've Always Loved You XX 09 Cry Out To Jesus 14 10 Nothing Compares 08 11 King Of Glory 06 12 I Believe XX 13 Agnes Dei XX 14 Tunnel XX 15 Who I Am XX 16 Love Song 20 17 My Hope Is You 19 18 Forever XX 19 Thief 17 20 Come Together
A pretty good list there, with seven new songs from the last Third Day special. I actually enjoyed this special quite a lot, considering I'm not much of a Third Day fan. But I actually am starting to like their music a lot more.

Since it was ten years ago this Friday that Rich Mullins was killed in a car crash, Jon Rivers aired the Rich Mullins tribute special this past weekend. I'm not sure what year the show first aired, but I do remember hearing it a few times around the early part of the decade, plus it was also rebroadcast at least once, in late September, 2004 (although that weekend, there was a regular version of the show for stations that hesitated on playing music by Rich Mullins, since his music has become to aged for their all-current format). This weekend, I don't believe stations were given a choice (since Rivers plugged the special at the end of last weekend's show). Since it is the tenth anniversary of his tragic death, however, perhaps most stations didn't mind bending the rules a little.
Anyway, here is a listing of songs they played. Not sure if they counted samples of songs played, but since there were lots of interviews with Mullins throughout the show, I would imagine that the short versions of the songs were included:
Awesome God Hold Me Jesus Sing Your Praise To The Lord Let Mercy Lead Sometimes By Step Growing Young Creed Calling Out Your Name First Family Boy Like Me / Man Like You Hello Old Friends What Susan Said The River There´s Bound To Come Some Trouble The Love Of God My One Thing Here In America The Just Shall Live Elijah If I Stand

Well, the weekend of August 16, they played the first 20: The Countdown Magazine special in eleven months. This time, it was the Top 20 Praise And Worship Songs - So Far. I'm kind of surprised that they didn't run one earlier this year as well (since they tend to do it roughly twice a year (though sometimes they repeat a show. They apparently decided not to do that with the last one, which was in May of last year.
Anyway, here's the list (compared with the last one) and, as always, Chris Tomlin occupies many positions on it:
LC TC SONG/ARTIST 01 01 How Great Is Our God/Chris Tomlin 07 02 Blessed Be Your Name/Tree63 XX 03 Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)/Chris Tomlin 06 04 Here I Am To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean 14 05 Open The Eyes Of My Heart/Paul Baloche* 09 06 Indescribable/Chris Tomlin 15 07 Shout To The Lord/Darlene Zschech 12 08 Holy Is The Lord/Chris Tomlin 03 09 You Are My King (Amazing Love)/The Newsboys 16 10 Forever/Chris Tomlin 17 11 Lord I Lift Your Name On High/Petra 18 12 Come, Now Is The Time To Worship/Phillips Craig & Dean 02 13 God Of Wonders/City On A Hill Project 05 14 We Fall Down/Chris Tomlin 19 15 The Heart Of Worship/Matt Redman 10 16 You're Worthy Of My Praise/Jeremy Camp 08 17 Breathe/Rebecca St. James* XX 18 Beautiful One/By The Tree XX 19 Better Is One Day/Matt Redman RE 20 Above All/Michael W. Smith
Two songs (marked with asterisks) were on the last show, at the positions shown, however, they were by different artists. Michael W. Smith did "Breathe" on the last one (not even sure if it's the same song) and on all of the previous specials, they played the John Tesh version of "Open They Eyes Of My Heart". This time, however, they went with the version by Paul Baloche.

Even though I'm no longer posting the weekly 20: The Countdown Magazine charts, I will still post the specials. They ran the very first special 20: TCM since August, 2008 this weekend (and I would imagine that would be the longest time ever between special shows). You might be thinking that it's another edition of the Top 20 Praise & Worship Songs - So Far. Eh, not quite, my friends. This was a first (that I know of, anyway). This was a Wow Hits 2010 Special. The new Wow Hits album was just recently released and it contains 30 songs that charted in 2009. The folks at 20: The Countdown Magazine compiled the Top 20, according to how they ranked on the 20: TCM chart during the year. So we'll see how this compares to the year-end chart, coming up in a little over a month (but, judging by the looks of things, I expect the year-ender will be very different!)
20) The Words I Would Say/Sidewalk Prophets 19) How He Loves/David Crowder Band 18) You're Not Shaken/Phil Stacey 17) He Is/Mark Schultz 16) City On Our Knees/TobyMac 15) All Along/Remedy Drive 14) The Lost Get Found/Britt Nicole 13) Forgiven And Loved/Jimmy Needham 12) What Life Would Be Like/Big Daddy Weave 11) My Deliverer/Mandisa 10) Savior Please/Josh Wilson 09) Two Hands/Jars Of Clay 08) Wait And See/Brandon Heath 07) Free To Be Me/Francesca Battistelli 06) Revelation/Third Day 05) In The Hands Of God/The Newsboys 04) I Will Rise/Chris Tomlin 03) There Will Be A Day/Jeremy Camp 02) By Your Side/Tenth Avenue North 01) The Motions/Matthew West
As you can see, some of 2009's biggest hits (most notably "Revelation Song" by Phillips Craig & Dean and "Finally Home" by MercyMe) don't appear on the Wow Hits 2010 CD, so the year-ender will definitely differ a lot from this countdown, which was very interesting. Jon must be pyschic, as he said that "The Motions" entered the chart in February and spent a total of 57 weeks on the chart. So that means that the song will hang around the chart until late March or early April? We'll have to see - it's entirely possible, though, as songs tend to spend forever on the 20: Countdown chart. A few weeks ago, it looked like that had changed, but apparently, it was just a fluke. Anyway, this was all in all a good show and I enjoyed listening to it :)

Back in the mid to late '00s, they used to do a "Top 20 Praise and Worship Songs - So Far" show at least once or twice a year. This week, on the other hand, was the first such countdown in nearly three years. The last one was in mid-August, 2008. As usual, the list will be compared with the last one:

Not sure if they counted samples of songs played, but since there were lots of interviews with Mullins throughout the show, I would imagine that the short versions of the songs were included: Awesome God Hold Me Jesus Sing Your Praise To The Lord Let Mercy Lead Sometimes By Step Growing Young Creed Calling Out Your Name First Family Boy Like Me / Man Like You Hello Old Friends What Susan Said The River There´s Bound To Come Some Trouble The Love Of God My One Thing Here In America The Just Shall Live Elijah If I Stand I know this post is 4 years old, but I'd like to say it first aired shorty after his death. It was recorded just before Rivers left to go to the funeral.

I was wondering why Jon Rivers only did one special show around the holiday (the Top 20 of 2014), and now I think I know why. He decided to eliminate the Christmas special this year so he could bring us a Top 20 Praise And Worship special - the first in about three and a half years. I decided to post the list here and, as always, I'm comparing it with the last such special.

This show is beyond a caricature running a rememberance show alllllll these years later...again...and again...and again.
